Integrating Complementary Practices Into Caregiver Training For Community Stroke Rehabilitation: A Pre–Post Study In Thailand, Naphatsaran Roekruangrit, Sirinun Treemongkolthip, Watchara Damjuti

Journal of Health Research

Background: After formal rehabilitation, Thai stroke survivors often depend on community caregivers who may lack training for ongoing recovery. Integrating culturally familiar complementary practices into caregiver education could strengthen home-based rehabilitation. This study aimed to develop a caregiver health program integrating complementary medicine for stroke care and evaluate its effects on caregiver knowledge and patient functional ability in the community.

Methods: This two-phase study was conducted in Pathum Thani, Thailand. Phase I involved community-based participatory development, including stakeholder engagement, situational analysis, focus groups, and a workshop. Phase II was a single-group pre–post quasi-experimental trial. Twenty caregivers completed a 5-day training …

Yafo, Ha-TeʻUda Ha-Aduma Street: The Glass Finds, Brigitte Ouahnouna

Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel

The excavation at Ha-Te‘uda Ha-Aduma Street in Yafo yielded about fifty glass items dating from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries CE. These include imported and locally produced medicine, cosmetic and beverage bottles, as well as bracelet fragments of common types that first appeared in the Mamluk period and remained in use through the Ottoman period and into recent times. The finds reflect a modest repertoire associated with local daily life at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Yafo, Ha-TeʻUda Ha-Aduma Street: Late Ottoman Porcelain And Ceramics, Anna De Vincenz

Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel

The salvage excavations on Ha-Teʻuda Ha-Aduma street in Yafo yielded a small Late Ottoman ceramic and porcelain vessel assemblage. Porcelain and hard-paste vessels were imported from Europe, whereas glazed earthenware vessels were imported from Europe and Turkey. Among the locally made vessels were Black Gaza Ware and other coarse ware vessels. Many roof tiles, complete and fragmentary, as well as bricks, were imported mainly from Marseille, France. Only a few smoking pipes and narghile were found; these were either locally produced or originated in Turkey.

Method For Smart Left Turn And Merging With Powertrain Aware, Anonymous Feb 2026

Method For Smart Left Turn And Merging With Powertrain Aware, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Drivers frequently encounter significant challenges when making left turns onto main roads or merging into traffic, primarily due to difficulties in accurately assessing gaps in oncoming traffic. A critical concern arises from the misperception of approaching vehicle speeds and distances, a problem greatly exacerbated by the increasing prevalence of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and other quick-accelerating vehicles.

EVs deliver maximum torque instantaneously, allowing many to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds. This unique capability results in different acceleration characteristics compared to Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles, with some studies noting that EVs may accelerate more quickly. As …

Fusing Fitness And Health Sensor Data From Multiple Sources, Justin Phillips, Daniel Roggen, Robert Harle

Defensive Publications Series

Estimates of cardiorespiratory fitness metrics (e.g., maximal oxygen uptake) from wearable electronic devices are often characterized by significant noise and variability. Inconsistencies arise due to algorithmic differences between manufacturers, sensor inaccuracies, and biological variance. The integration of data from multiple disparate sources lacks a standardized method for weighting measurements based on source reliability or handling late-arriving data. While the disclosed method is described in the context of cardiorespiratory fitness metrics such as VO2 max, it is equally applicable to any changing physiological variable derived from noisy or disparate sources, including but not limited to daily or weekly average blood pressure. …

Skrmetti And The Problem Of Incidental Intent, Martin J. Katz Feb 2026

Skrmetti And The Problem Of Incidental Intent, Martin J. Katz

Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship

The modern Supreme Court has defined “discriminatory intent” as a strict-liability concept. It does not matter why the government sorts people by a protected characteristic, such as race or sex; it matters only that the government does sort people by such a characteristic. This principle is the key holding of affirmative-action cases, such as Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. Yet, in the recent case United States v. Skrmetti, the Court seemed to focus not on the question of whether the government sorted people by sex (it did), but on the question …

Experiences Of Stigma And Barriers To Care Among Transgender And Gender Expansive Populations Seeking Mental Healthcare, Amanda Veldorale-Griffin, Elizabeth Banks, Elizabeth Patrick, Judith Cannon, Caidan Thomas Smith

Marriage and Family Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Transgender and gender expansive (TGGE) people experience increased risk for mental health issues and suicidality, as well as significant barriers to mental healthcare, due to stigma and discrimination, including from mental healthcare providers. A sample of 945 TGGE participants completed self-report surveys, measuring experiences of stigma and barriers to care, and counselor competence. Data were divided into two groups by age and analyzed through linear regressions and one-way ANOVAs. Across groups, participants (approximately 58% of younger participants and 49% of older participants) reported experiencing stigma from a healthcare provider, and all reported some barriers to care, with more than half …

Tourism Carrying Capacity As Dynamic Property Of Complex Socio-Ecological Systems, Sebastian Sebastian Raimondo, Martino Biondani, Carlo Giupponi Feb 2026

Tourism Carrying Capacity As Dynamic Property Of Complex Socio-Ecological Systems, Sebastian Sebastian Raimondo, Martino Biondani, Carlo Giupponi

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

Overtourism is not just overcrowding: it is a systemic imbalance sustained by feedbacks between visitors, residents’ welfare, the performance of local facilities, and environmental quality. Tourism carrying capacity sits at the centre of overtourism research and policy, yet it is still commonly operationalised as static visitor limits, implicitly assuming that thresholds could be set without accounting for the feedbacks they are meant to regulate. Here we introduce a minimal dynamical model that retains the essential feedbacks through which residents, tourists, economic capital, and environmental quality co-evolve. From this model, a formal definition of tourism carrying capacity emerges as a state-dependent …

Critical Student Agency In An Integrated Social Studies Unit, Bolaji Bamidele, Kristin A. Searle

Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences Student Research

Background: Research has highlighted the value of centering student voices and agency in classroom contexts, yet few curricula explicitly foreground critical agency in their design. This qualitative case study examines how students enact agency within an integrated curriculum that combines computer science, social studies, and Indian Education for All (IEFA) standards. The unit focused on tribal sovereignty and why treaties still matter for indigenous people today, enabling students to connect their lived experiences to broader sociopolitical contexts. Data were collected through classroom observations, student and teacher interviews, and student artifacts. Results: Analysis revealed that students performed agency in three interrelated …

Qualitatively Assessing Trade-Offs And Co-Benefits At Local Scales When Considering Carbon Outcomes Among Other Management Goals, Adrienne B. Keller, Ann L. Calhoun, Stephen D. Handler, Maria K. Janowiak, Caitlin E. Littlefield, Brian Miner Feb 2026

Qualitatively Assessing Trade-Offs And Co-Benefits At Local Scales When Considering Carbon Outcomes Among Other Management Goals, Adrienne B. Keller, Ann L. Calhoun, Stephen D. Handler, Maria K. Janowiak, Caitlin E. Littlefield, Brian Miner

Michigan Tech Publications

Natural and working lands are often touted as natural climate solutions due to their ability to take up and store carbon, and land managers are increasingly tasked with considering how management actions impact carbon outcomes alongside other management goals. As a result, there is a need to assess how management actions may drive trade-offs and co-benefits between multiple management goals. However, quantitative analysis of trade-offs is not feasible for many local-scale management projects. We used a case study in an oak savanna in south-eastern Wisconsin, U.S.A. to develop and test a framework for qualitatively analysing local-scale trade-offs. Our framework is …

Medicine During The Holocaust: A Comparative Study Of Righteous Dutch, German, And Italian Physicians, Vincent Tse, Salvatore Mangione Feb 2026

Medicine During The Holocaust: A Comparative Study Of Righteous Dutch, German, And Italian Physicians, Vincent Tse, Salvatore Mangione

Alpha Omega Alpha Research Symposium Posters

Purpose: Authoritarianism can hinder altruism, even among physicians, the most altruistic members of society. Hence, we postulated that the proportion of doctors who saved Jews during the Holocaust (i.e. “Righteous Among the Nations”) was higher in a democratic country like the Netherlands as compared to authoritarian ones like Germany and Italy.

Methods: We analyzed the Yad Vashem database and other census data to determine the total populations, numbers of physicians, numbers of “Righteous”, and numbers of “Righteous” physicians in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands during WWII. A chi-squared analysis for independence evaluated the association between proportion of “Righteous” physicians to …
