Fundamental Data Analysis Tools And Concepts For Bioacoustical Research, Chandra Salgado Kent, Tiago A. Marques, Danielle Harris

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Bioacoustics is a growing field of research in which sound is measured to gain knowledge about species’ natural history and their environments. For example, bioacousticians have been able to create phylogenies, identify populations, and estimate abundance using sound. Moreover, today, many animals are exposed to human-generated noise, which can impact animals’ behavior, ability to communicate, physiology, hearing, and, in some instances, survival. Bioacoustics, thus, is commonly used to assess and predict the impacts of anthropogenic noise on animals and their populations. The use of bioacoustics to address such research questions, however, is only effective provided the quantitative and statistical analysis …

The Impact Of Stress Dependent Permeability Alteration On Gas Based Eor In The Bakken Formation, Ailin Assady Jan 2022

The Impact Of Stress Dependent Permeability Alteration On Gas Based Eor In The Bakken Formation, Ailin Assady

Theses and Dissertations

Effective stress exerted on porous rocks can change and alter reservoir permeability accordingly during reservoir development. The permeability evolution under different reservoir statues will impact oil production and EOR design in the Bakken shale porous media. An accurate permeability model can improve capturing the fluid transport mechanism and create a reliable long-term dynamic fluid forecast via reservoir simulation. This research is focused on studying permeability alteration behavior under different pressure circumstances. The reservoir gradually loses its original pore pressure during production, increasing reservoir net effective stress. Therefore, a reduction in reservoir properties such as permeability or porosity can occur in …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Scope:

Nitrate and nitrite are approved food additives in some animal-based food products. However, nitrate and nitrite in foods are strictly regulated due to health concerns over methaemoglobinaemia and the potential formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines. In contrast, plants (like leafy vegetables) naturally accumulate nitrate ions; a growing body of research reveals beneficial metabolic effects of nitrate via its endogenous conversion to nitric oxide. To refine the association of dietary nitrate and nitrite intake with health outcomes, reliable measures of nitrate and nitrite intake from dietary food records are required. While a vegetable nitrate content database has been developed, there is …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Natural source zone depletion (NSZD) of light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) may be a valid long-term management option at petroleum impacted sites. However, its future long-term reliability needs to be established. NSZD includes partitioning, biotic and abiotic degradation of LNAPL components plus multiphase fluid dynamics in the subsurface. Over time, LNAPL components are depleted and those partitioning to various phases change, as do those available for biodegradation. To accommodate these processes and predict trends and NSZD over decades to centuries, for the first time, we incorporated a multi-phase multi-component multi-microbe non-isothermal approach to representatively simulate NSZD at field scale. To …
