A Method For Diffracted Wave Separation And Imaging Based On The Gwa-Vmd, Lin Peng, Liu Yulin, Peng Suping, Cui Xiaoqin, Guo Changbo, Yang Jie

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background Small-scale discontinuous geobodies such as faults, collapse columns, and pinch-out points are widely present in underground spaces. They are closely associated with the safe production and development of underground resources such as coals, oil, and gas. As the wave field responses of small-scale discontinuous geobodies, diffracted waves can overcome the shortcomings of traditional reflected wave imaging, being capable of accurately identifying and localizing small-scale geobodies. Objective and Method This study aims to achieve diffracted wave imaging of discontinuous geobodies. Based on the differences in kinematic and dynamic characteristics between reflected and diffracted waves, this study leveraged the precise self-adaptive …

Hatchability And Nestling Viability In An Extremely Short-Beaked Pigeon Breed, Türker Savaş, Hakan Erdem, Cemi̇l Tölü

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The selection of hobby animals for breeding by enthusiasts is often based on aesthetic considerations, which can have a negative impact on the animals’ biology. Furthermore, “extreme traits” that deviate from ancestral norms, such as short beaks in pigeons, can be detrimental to the animal’s welfare. Beaks perform many essential functions, such as facilitating feed intake and eggshell breaking. The present study investigates possible hatching problems and the nestling viability of short-beak pigeons through a study of the breeding records of Mısıri (short beak), Baska (medium beak), and Turkish Dönek (normal beak) pigeons, as well as data from one breeding …

The Role Of Institutional Logic: A New Dynamic Typology For Policy Innovation Labs, Esti Hoss-Golan, Anat Gofen, Adam M. Wellstead

Michigan Tech Publications

Policy innovation labs (PILs) are established globally to address complex public challenges. PILS are distinguished by their focus on fostering innovation, promoting collaborative co-design, and engaging in experimentation. The current literature highlights structural characteristics that define PILs, such as their source of funding, their autonomy from government agencies, and the tools that are utilized. This paper provides a dynamic perspective by focusing on the institutional logics of PILs, which are socially constructed patterns of symbols, practices, values, and beliefs that guide decision-making and shape organizational behavior. Drawing from semi-structured interviews with 31 managers from European PILs, we identify three distinct …

Expression, Purification, And Crystallization Of Recombinant Human Abl-1 Kinase For X-Ray Crystallography, Ayça İrgi̇t, Hali̇li̇brahi̇m Çi̇ftçi̇, Hasan Demi̇rci̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Abelson-1 (ABL-1) is a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase that plays essential roles in various cellular processes, including proliferation, survival, differentiation and its kinase activity is tightly regulated. The dysregulated ABL-1 kinase activity is linked to disease pathogenesis like Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), where the BCR::ABL-1 fusion oncoprotein drives oncogenic signaling. Due to its central role in CML pathogenesis, understanding the structure of ABL-1 is crucial for the effective management of the disease and drug development studies. This study focuses on optimizing the expression, purification and crystallization of the recombinant human ABL-1 kinase domain for its structural analysis via X-ray crystallography and …

Influence Of Plasticizer Type On The Structure And Drug Release Characteristics Of Lm-Pectin Hydrogels, Banu Kocaağa, Fatma Seni̇ha Güner Feb 2026

Influence Of Plasticizer Type On The Structure And Drug Release Characteristics Of Lm-Pectin Hydrogels, Banu Kocaağa, Fatma Seni̇ha Güner

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study investigated the effects of different plasticizers—castor oil (CO), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with varying molecular weights (MWs)—on the structure and drug-release performance of low-methoxyl pectin (LM-pectin) hydrogels. Theophylline was used as a model drug to evaluate release behavior under physiologically relevant conditions. The incorporation of plasticizers modulated polymer–polymer interactions, swelling behavior, and thermal properties, thereby affecting drug-release kinetics. CO, a hydrophobic triglyceride, created microdomain-induced diffusion pathways; PVP, containing water-affinitive lactam units, facilitated moisture-driven plasticization; and PEG (MW 400/1000/1500), with hydroxyl-terminated chains, established hydrogen bonds with pectin. Structural analyses (FTIR and DSC) revealed that CO disrupted pectin …

Comparative Computational Study Of Sulfur-Donor Additives For Stabilization Of Fapbi3 Perovskites, Ilnar Nurgaliev, Akbarxon Hamzayev, Murad Marasulov, Zavkiddin Julliev, Akhmad Oblakulov, Nigmat Ashurov

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A multiscale computational investigation integrating density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was conducted to elucidate the mechanisms through which sulfur-containing donor molecules stabilize the photoactive α-phase of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskites. The binding energetics, charge-transfer behavior, and hydrogen-bonding interactions of thiourea (TU), thiosemicarbazide (TSC), thiocyanate (SCN–), and diethyldithiocarbamate (DTC) were systematically analyzed. DFT results revealed pronounced Pb–S coordination and multidentate hydrogenbonding, with binding energies following the trend SCN–>TSC>DTC>TU. Thermodynamic analysis demonstrated that these additives lower the Gibbs free energy difference, thereby stabilizing the black α-phase, with TSC, TU, and to a lesser extent …

Whale Entanglements Disentangled Through The Lens Of Cumulative Habitat Compression, Jarrod A. Santora, Isaac D. Schroeder, Elliott L. Hazen, John C. Field, Karin A. Forney, Lauren Saez, Dan Lawson Feb 2026

Whale Entanglements Disentangled Through The Lens Of Cumulative Habitat Compression, Jarrod A. Santora, Isaac D. Schroeder, Elliott L. Hazen, John C. Field, Karin A. Forney, Lauren Saez, Dan Lawson

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Ten years following a marine heatwave event, whale entanglements continue to challenge ecosystem-based fishery and protected species management in the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME). Although new fishing regulations combined with environmental changes resulted in a decline in humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) entanglements from the peak during a prolonged heatwave, reports continue at a higher rate than prior to 2014. The entanglement record is imperfect because many entanglements go unobserved and those that are observed may not correspond to where the entanglement occurred. Thus it remains a challenge to understand when and where entanglements are most likely to occur …

Tanzania Journal of Science

The study successfully employed Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and a Machine Learning (ML) approach using a Random Forest Regression (RFR) model to develop optimized Multi-Detector CT (MDCT) protocols that significantly reduce radiation dose while maintaining diagnostic image quality. The MC engine accurately modeled X-ray spectra, and the RFR model demonstrated high predictive power for key metrics, achieving R2 scores of 0.97 for CTDIvol and over 0.92 for image quality metrics (Noise, CNR). Through multi-objective optimization guided by the RFR, the final protocol (Optimization-3) was found on the Pareto front, achieving a notable 35% dose reduction (from 15.5 mGy to 9.9 …

Stitching Up Industry Issues: Arbitration Can Offer Customized Solutions To Fashion Intellectual Property Disputes, Catherine Meng Feb 2026

Stitching Up Industry Issues: Arbitration Can Offer Customized Solutions To Fashion Intellectual Property Disputes, Catherine Meng

Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal

This comment proposes alternative dispute resolution (ADR), specifically arbitration, as a more effective mechanism for resolving fashion copyright disputes. The fashion industry has historically received limited protection for designs—primarily trademark and patent law—resulting in widespread copying and difficulty enforcing claims. In the 2017 case Star Athletica, L.L.C. v. Varsity Brands, Inc., the Supreme Court added copyright to the patchwork of protections. However, that protection is available only for aesthetic elements, not functional ones. The difficulty in distinguishing these components, along with the challenges of enforcing claims across borders and between parties with unequal bargaining power, as in Hian v. Louis …

An Alternative Sacrifice: Religious Arbitration Agreements In Ministerial Employment Contracts, Grace E. Brandt Feb 2026

An Alternative Sacrifice: Religious Arbitration Agreements In Ministerial Employment Contracts, Grace E. Brandt

Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal

After decades of development in lower courts, the Supreme Court unanimously affirmed the ministerial exception in Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. E.E.O.C. (2012) and provided additional guidance in Our Lady of Guadalupe School v. Morrissey-Berru (2020). The precise contours of the exception remain uncertain, but the doctrine—grounded in the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses of the First Amendment—effectively bars civil courts from reviewing claims against religious institutions that implicate ministerial employment decisions. Thus, ministers are unable to pursue redress for legitimate harms that occur within the scope of their religious employment, even if unrelated to religious doctrine. This …

Off The Gridiron Conflict: Why The Nfl Should Use Mediation To Resolve Internal Disputes, Bryan Weitzman Feb 2026

Off The Gridiron Conflict: Why The Nfl Should Use Mediation To Resolve Internal Disputes, Bryan Weitzman

Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal

The National Football League (NFL) is a multibillion-dollar enterprise built on a sport that fundamentally depends on communication, cooperation, and collaboration. Yet the league resolves nearly all internal disputes through adversarial arbitration mechanisms embedded in the NFL Constitution and the NFL/NFL Players Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. This comment argues that the NFL’s exclusive reliance on arbitration is conceptually inconsistent with the values that the sport instills and structurally prejudicial to players, coaches, and employees—particularly where the Commissioner retains final arbitral authority. An examination of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) principles and case studies demonstrates how the NFL’s current internal dispute resolution …

The Regulatory Framework For Crowdsourced Online Dispute Resolution: Revisiting The Dispute Resolution Triangle, Yun Zhao, Zhiming Xiao Feb 2026

The Regulatory Framework For Crowdsourced Online Dispute Resolution: Revisiting The Dispute Resolution Triangle, Yun Zhao, Zhiming Xiao

Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal

Crowdsourced Online Dispute Resolution (CODR) constitutes a transformative approach to digital-era disputes, fundamentally reconceptualizing dispute resolution through distributed participant networks rather than merely digitizing traditional alternative dispute resolution. Anchored in Katsh and Rifkin’s dispute resolution triangle (trust, convenience, expertise) and Perritt’s co-regulatory governance model, this paper analyzes CODR’s evolution from early systems such as iCourthouse to contemporary implementations. Case studies of eBay Community Court (contractual self-regulation prioritizing convenience) and Xianyu Small Court (state-aligned hybrid governance optimizing expertise through algorithmic juror specialization) demonstrate how platforms operationalize these theoretical frameworks. The legal analysis examines jurisdictional fragmentation and enforcement challenges, revealing how regulatory …
