Engineering and Technology Journal

Groundnut shells and sawdust are generated in vast quantities yearly but under-utilized. In developing countries, this situation leads to their disposal by unplanned landfilling, indiscriminate dumping, or open burning as ineffective solid waste management systems persist. Such practices constitute severe environmental problems that need to be urgently tackled. In this work, composite boards were fabricated from groundnut shell particles (GSP) and sawdust particles (SDP) at varying volumetric proportions of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100 % using Topbond as a binding agent. The boards were dried completely and then assessed for water absorption, bulk density, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, …

Engineering and Technology Journal

The present study harnessed a commercially available polydimethylsiloxane (PDMSTM4060) membrane designed for the selective separation of soluble benzene (C6H6) and toluene (C7H8) compounds from an aqueous solution employing pervaporation (PV). Two distinct mathematical models, namely the universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) model and the conventional driving force model, were formulated to replicate the intricate transport mechanisms of both organic solvent and water across these membranes. These models were instrumental in projecting the membrane's performance across diverse operational scenarios. The anticipated results were rigorously compared with experimental data to validate the projected outcomes for non-ideal volatile organic compounds (VOCs)-water systems within the membrane. …

Impact Of The Upfc On The Optimal Transmission Switching For Cutting Down Market Power Cost, Sunday Adetona, Makanjuola Adetola, Frank Okafor, Nwabueze Ubakanwa

Engineering and Technology Journal

The exercise of market power by the strategic generating companies (gencos) in the deregulated wholesale electricity market (WEM) should be mitigated, as it results in higher wholesale prices of electricity and a drop in competition in the WEM. Consequently, Optimal Transmission Switching (OTS) has been proposed as a means by which the System Operator in the WEM can use to mitigate it. It is also imperative that the effect of the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) on reducing the cost due to the market power using OTS must be investigated. Therefore, this study used the Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) …

Lora Sensor Node Mounted On Drone For Monitoring Industrial Area Gas Pollution, Muthna Fadhil, Sadik Gharghan, Thamir Saeed

Engineering and Technology Journal

One of the biggest threats to human health is air pollution, which significantly influences people. Due to challenges like industrial and rural locations, where sensing frequently falls short of providing sufficient information about air quality, it is challenging to collect data close to pollution sources. Government-led statically deployed stationary monitors are typically used for air quality monitoring. However, many emissions that contribute to air pollution are erratic and unpredictable. A significant problem for environmental protection will be how to monitor air pollution emissions dynamically and efficiently. It can fulfill two objectives. The first is that if the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle …

The electric resistance of similar and dissimilar RSW joints was examined during tensile tests. Metallurgical tests for RSW joints revealed an increase in grain size from the base metal (BM) to the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and finally the fusion zone (FZ). Satisfactory shear tension strength results were obtained for dissimilar joints (Al-Cu) at …

Numerical Study Of The Effect Of Thermal Insulation And Window-To-Wall Ratio On Reducing The Thermal Loads Of The Residential Sector In Iraq, Abd Hussein, Ahmed Saleh, Hamdi Ahmed

Engineering and Technology Journal

The climate change that the world is witnessing has cast a greater shadow on the Middle East. Iraq, one of the region's countries, is experiencing harsh thermal conditions. With the increase in population growth in the country, there was a significant development in the housing sector, which exacerbated the thermal loads that the residential sector requires to overcome harsh weather conditions. This leads to increased energy consumption. To reduce this consumption and energy waste, a simulation study was conducted using the TRNSYS program to analyze the thermal behavior of a building whose walls consist of Gypsum, Juss, brick, and mortar, …

State-Of-The-Art Review Into Signal Processing And Artificial Intelligence-Based Approaches Applied In Gearbox Defect Diagnosis, Asaad Dubaish, Alaa Jaber

Engineering and Technology Journal

Various industrial applications, including rotating and reciprocating machinery, depend on gears. Therefore, a sudden breakdown of the gears could result in substantial financial losses. Due to this, extensive studies have focused on defect diagnosis. Both machinery maintenance decisions and preventive maintenance techniques have been aided by vibration analysis. An increased vibration is a warning sign that a machine is about to malfunction or break down. Observing and evaluating the machine's vibration pulses can identify the nature and extent of the issue and, as a result, predict when the machine will fail. The vibration signal may identify gearbox defects early on …

A 5-level DWT decomposition identified frequency sub-bands with localized fault information. The FFT post-processing of level 5 approximation coefficients revealed precise modal frequency shifts between blade states. The healthy blade showed a dominant 16 Hz mode that matched operational dynamics. Erosion caused a …

An Analytical Solution To Buckling Of Thick Beams Based On A Cubic Polynomial Shear Deformation Beam Theory, Charles Ike Mar 2026

An Analytical Solution To Buckling Of Thick Beams Based On A Cubic Polynomial Shear Deformation Beam Theory, Charles Ike

Engineering and Technology Journal

This paper presents analytical solutions for the buckling of thick beams. The Bernoulli-Euler beam theory (BEBT) overestimates their critical buckling load. This paper has derived a cubic polynomial shear deformation beam buckling theory (CPSDBBT) from first principles using the Euler-Lagrange differential equation (ELDE). It develops closed-form solutions to differential equations using the finite sine transform method. The formulation considers transverse shear deformation and satisfies the transverse shear stress-free boundary conditions. The governing equation is developed from the energy functional, Õ, by applying the ELDE. The domain equation is obtained as an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The finite sine transformation of …
