Impact Of Surface-Modified Silica And Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles On The Flow Behaviour Of East Baghdad Crude Oil And Emulsion, Mohammed Nasera, Asawer Alwasiti, Riyadh Almukhtar, Mazin Shibeeb
Engineering and Technology Journal
The transportation of crude oil naturally, including emulsion from the wellhead to the processing facility, presents a challenge in the oil industry, particularly as wells age and the production of associated water increases. To improve the flowability of the emulsified oil, traditional methods for reducing the viscosity, such as dilution and heating, are costly and energy-intensive. However, nanotechnology offers a potential solution to improve flowability and crude oil behavior. This paper examines how adding 3% wt of surface-modified silicon dioxide (SiO2) and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles impacts the flow properties of an emulsion containing East Baghdad crude oil. The investigation …

A Model Predictive Control-Based Statcom For Weak Grid Voltage Enhancement, Adeola Balogun, Emeka Esenwa, Sunday Adetona, Ayobami Olajube, Ayokunle Awelewa, Frank Okafor
Engineering and Technology Journal
This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) technique for the control of reactive power flow from a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) into a weak power system network. The MPC strategy enables the STATCOM to mitigate weak phase voltage magnitudes in a distribution grid. The weak voltage magnitudes usually emanate from large inductive loads connected to the grid’s point of common coupling (PCC). The MPC utilizes a finite control set of voltage vectors to minimize a cost function, which reduces the errors between set references and the corresponding predicted variables. The references in the cost function are set by two …

Modeling And Control Of A High-Quality Electro-Hydraulic Actuator Driven Via An Induction Motor Under Intelligent Indirect Vector Control, Aws Hassan, Jamal Mohammed, Walaa Hashim
Engineering and Technology Journal
Due to its excellent energy efficiency and broad speed range, the variable-speed electro-hydraulic drive is an appealing driving principle in many contemporary industrial applications. A primary control of linear motion is via a variable-speed electric motor driving a hydraulic actuator via a constant displacement pump. One of the most commonly used controllers for the speed control of induction motors is the Proportional Integral (PI) type. However, the traditional PI controller has some disadvantages, such as the high starting overshoot, sensitivity to controller gains, and sluggish response due to sudden disturbance. An intelligent controller based on PI Fuzzy logic set theory …

Anfis Control Of Four-Quadrant Dc/Dc Chopper For Wireless Ev Charging, Hawraa Hameed, Hosham Anead, Khalid Sultan
Engineering and Technology Journal
Wireless charging of electric vehicles (EVs) poses issues like power ripples that reduce battery lifetime. This study proposes a four-quadrant DC/DC chopper controlled by an adaptive neuro-fuzzy controller (ANFIS) for wireless EV charging. The system is modeled and simulated in Matlab/Simulink. Compared to a PI-PSO controller, the proposed ANFIS control reduced the ripple factor in power over half to about 0.7% and optimized stability and efficiency. Though settling time increased, the difference in rise time was negligible. Future work will improve dynamic response. The ANFIS-controlled DC/DC chopper enhances wireless charging performance with minimal power ripples for safe, efficient EV power …

Realization Of An All-Optical D And T Flip Flops With Nano-Structure Using Hybrid Plasmonic Waveguides, Saif Abdulwahid, Ahmed Wadday, Sinan Abdul Sattar
Engineering and Technology Journal
Surface waves are electromagnetic waves propagating along the interface between a metal and an insulator. Surface waves break the diffraction limits and enable light to propagate in sub-wavelength structures. That opens the field of electro-opto devices. The main drawbacks of surface waves that move in the Plasmonic Waveguides (PWs) are propagation loss and low light confinement. Using a combination of the plasmonic waveguide and a Dielectric Waveguide (DW), the defect of the surface waves can be enhanced, and the Hybrid Plasmonic waveguide (HPW) is introduced. In this research, the design of an all-optical flip flop with 400 nm × 400 …

Photovoltaic panels are considered one of the important practical applications in converting solar energy into electrical energy, but they suffer from the effect of heat associated with solar radiation. Therefore, much research has been done to either harness the heat that comes with it or eliminate it by cooling the panel and boosting its effectiveness. In this work, a cooling box was designed and manufactured locally (the passage design is new) that is attached to the back wall as part of the panel without inserting an absorbent portion between it and the water to cool the panel. The new model …

Concrete's fracture susceptibility is due to its limited tensile strength, which can lead to cracks. Steel reinforcement is added to designated areas to address this issue, but minuscule cracks can allow liquids and vapors to infiltrate the reinforcing material, causing corrosion. Self-healing concrete can resist corrosion by mending and sealing minor cracks. This study aims to determine if fused deposition modeling (FDM) can fabricate innovative vascular networks and tubes from polylactic acid (PLA) created by using three-dimensional (3D) printing methods, and its characteristics were contrasted with those of two- and one-dimensional (2D) networks. The dimensions of the internal and exterior diameters …

This study uses electro-spinning techniques to create a poly(vinyl alcohol)-chitosan-zinc oxide nanoparticles (PVA+CS)+ZnO NPs system in three concentrations of ZnO for application as composite nanofibers for wound treatment applications and Employing the Taguchi technique to optimize the mechanical characteristics via a four-level experimental design process (L16). Numerous techniques have been utilized to characterize the nanofibrous scaffolds: contact angle measurement, cytotoxicity testing, proliferation testing, evaluation of antimicrobial activity, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersion X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), and a comparative experimental study involving the determination of hardness using the Nanoindentation method for (PVA+CS)+ZnO. The …

Two-dimensional nano structural compounds are attracting the focus of researchers worldwide. The need to treat wastewater and prevent the release of hazardous substances into the environment has increased because of growing environmental awareness. New compounds, most of which are not biodegradable, have emerged due to rising consumer expectations. Due to their distinctive chemical and physical characteristics, MXene has lately been recognized as an exciting option. The strong hydrophilicity of MXene makes them a promising candidate for environmental remediation methods like photocatalysis, natural chemical nature, and powerful electrochemistry—adsorption, membrane separation, and electrocatalytic sensors for identifying pollution. MXene has strong surface functional …
