The Together Lawsuit: What Will Matter After The Motion To Dismiss, Zeyu Liu

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (AELJ) Blog

On February 20, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California denied a motion to dismiss filed by Defendant William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME) in a copyright infringement claim brought forth by Plaintiff StudioFest, a production company. It is alleged that WME’s film Together infringed on the screenplay of the movie Better Half, whose copyright is owned by the Plaintiff. The Plaintiff only claimed a screenplay violation and alleged that in 2020, it sent the full script and synopsis to the agents of codefendants Dave Franco and Alison Brie as part of an offer to have them …

RATIONALE: Older patients hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) experience persistently poor outcomes, including physical disability, cognitive impairment, depression, impaired health-related quality of life (HRQOL), rehospitalizations, loss of independence, and mortality. In our previous phase 2 REHAB-HF trial, an innovative physical rehabilitation intervention, delivered across three phases-inpatient, 12-week outpatient, and 3-month home-based maintenance-produced large improvements in physical function and HRQOL, with signals of reduced clinical events among patients with acute HFpEF. These findings provide a compelling rationale for a definitive, event-powered trial to evaluate clinical outcomes.

HYPOTHESIS: Targeting physical frailty and multisystem functional impairments using …

Auditory Stimulation Rescues Cognitive Deficit In Fmr1-Ko Mice, Mohamed Ouardouz, Amanda E. Hernan, J. Matthew Mahoney, Rodney C. Scott

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers

Background/Objectives: Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a triplet repeat expansion in the Fmr1 gene leading to the loss of Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein (Fmr1 protein). The loss of Fmr1 protein modulates many cell biological processes and leads to the emergence of intellectual disability and autism. FXS is modeled in Fmr1-KO mice that display features consistent with human FXS, including hypersensitivity, cognitive and learning deficits, hyperactivity and audiogenic seizures. Here, we investigated the effect of auditory stimulation during a range of developmental stages on recognition memory and sociability deficits in Fmr1-KO mice. Methods: Fmr1-KO mice were …

The Buffer Value Of Trade: Quantifying How Global Integration Stabilizes Food Prices And Farm Incomes, Iman Haqiqi, Thomas Hertel Mar 2026

The Buffer Value Of Trade: Quantifying How Global Integration Stabilizes Food Prices And Farm Incomes, Iman Haqiqi, Thomas Hertel

Department of Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications

International trade plays a critical but often underappreciated role in stabilizing global food systems. This study quantifies the buffer value of trade by comparing observed conditions of global integration with a counterfactual restricted-trade world (half trade volume). Using a global market equilibrium model of agriculture combined with a novel randomized yield-shock framework, we evaluate how production volatility translates into volatility in consumer food prices and farm incomes across global regions in 1991–2020. Results show that trade substantially dampens volatility transmission. In the United States, year-on-year volatility in farm income declines nearly threefold under open trade (from 12.1 to 3.9), while …

Offside Trap: African Football As A Mirror Of Global Structural Inequality, Ellen Busolo Milimu Mar 2026

Offside Trap: African Football As A Mirror Of Global Structural Inequality, Ellen Busolo Milimu

Journal of Global South Sport Studies

Football in Africa, as a legacy of European colonialism, is undeniable. The export of football through colonization resulted in the popularization of the sport while also creating a system of economic exploitation and impoverishment that is the cause of considerable problems for African society. This economic system positioned African  countries as dependents of former colonizers even after achieving independence. Sports, specifically football, provide a unique perspective to explore the no-win     situation in which Africa exists within the global economic system. Always chasing the elusive ‘development’ goal that is dictated by others and shifts without the interests of African countries. The …

Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is widely recognized as a potential game-changer for music-making. However, the direction of these changes and the extent of their impact on the music field will depend on how musicians use AI, which partly hinges on their perceptions of AI and their willingness to engage with it. Debates are ongoing about AI’s impact on creative fields, and we anticipate that musicians’ views on these matters will significantly influence their readiness to incorporate AI into their work. We interviewed 43 participants who use technology in various roles across different music genres to gain insight into their experiences with …

Community Pharmacies Face Critical Sustainability Challenges In The United States: Academic Pharmacy Can Help, Karl M. Hess, Peter Lim

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Community pharmacies in the United States (US) face an increasingly unsustainable future due to declining third-party reimbursement (remuneration) and ongoing cash flow challenges following the elimination of retroactive direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees. These pressures have contributed to widespread pharmacy closures, the emergence of pharmacy deserts, and reduced access to care for millions of patients. Despite these challenges, community pharmacy remains the most common employment setting for pharmacy school graduates in the US. However, currently required community pharmacy Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) student rotations may offer limited exposure to business, management, and entrepreneurial activities, potentially leaving students underprepared …

HawaiʻI’S Housing Crisis: Unpacking The Limits Of S.B. 2919, Carley Matsumoto Mar 2026

HawaiʻI’S Housing Crisis: Unpacking The Limits Of S.B. 2919, Carley Matsumoto

Seattle University Law Review Online

The State of Hawaiʻi is facing a housing crisis exacerbated by natural disasters and public health emergencies. Hawaiʻi’s legislature seeks to ameliorate Hawaiʻi’s housing crisis with Senate Bill 2919, which gives all counties in Hawaiʻi the broad power to regulate short-term rentals. While this law was adopted with laudable intentions, it has significant shortcomings and will likely not solve Hawaiʻi’s longstanding housing crisis. This Comment argues for an alternative, tax-based solution to address the housing crisis.

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare ciliopathy resulting in chronic oto-sino-pulmonary disease. PCD diagnosis can be achieved by a combination of different diagnostic and adjuvant tools, including high-speed video-microscopy analysis (HSVA). A founder variant has been described in Puerto Rico as the most common cause of PCD in the island. Background/Objectives: In HSVA, objective parameters such as ciliary beat frequency (CBF) and subjective parameters such as ciliary beat pattern (CBP) shed light on the biophysical properties of cilia. However, the subjective nature of CBP creates a gap in knowledge; characteristics such as the length, angle, and bending index of …

Analyzing The Physical Mechanisms Of Aerodynamic Damping In Wind Turbine Blade Vibrations Via Numerical Simulation, North Yates Mar 2026

Analyzing The Physical Mechanisms Of Aerodynamic Damping In Wind Turbine Blade Vibrations Via Numerical Simulation, North Yates

Michigan Tech Publications

Since the inception of utility-scale wind turbines, there has been a continual increase in the size of the devices used. One drawback of turbine size increase is that the weight of the rotor blades has grown dramatically. Technological advancements have allowed for the creation of light blades to overcome this issue. These lighter rotors are also less stiff than their predecessors and prone to experiencing aeroelastic vibrations that can lead to fatigue damage. Aerodynamic damping occurring during blade vibration has the potential to mitigate those oscillations; thus, understanding its underlying physics provides an extremely useful tool for future blade design. …
