Escaping Isolation: An Analysis Of Virtual Machine And Container Breakout Vulnerabilities, Felix Iov
Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase
Cloud computing providers rely on multi-tenant architectures to maximize resource efficiency. This infrastructure depends on virtualization, which provides isolation between clients. This comes primarily in the form of Virtual Machines (VMs) and Containers. However, “breakout attacks” or “escapes” are a critical threat where attackers bypass these isolation layers to gain unauthorized access to the host system and neighboring environments. This paper surveys virtualization escape threats and analyzes three case studies: a runc container escape (Leaky Vessels), a VMware ESXi VM escape (VSOCKPuppet), and an NVIDIA GPU container escape (NVIDIAScape). Each demonstrates different attack surfaces, including file descriptor misuse, kernel driver …

Economic Cost Of “Too-Big-To-Fail”: A Comparative Study Between The Us, China And Eu Banking Systems Final, Tinashe J. Maswaure
Research Papers
The ongoing issue of 'Too Big to Fail' (TBTF) institutions is still a major challenge for modern banking systems. This paper looks at the economic costs of TBTF by using both historical analysis and a comparison of institutions in the United States, Europe, and China. By tracing how banking systems have developed from early financial intermediaries to today’s systemically important institutions, the paper shows that features like high leverage, unstable funding, and government guarantees have often led to systemic risk. The results indicate that although reforms after the financial crisis have lowered the chances of bailouts, TBTF has not disappeared. …

Transport Phenomena Of Multiphase Flow And Slippery Microsphere Suspensions In Confined Space, Ryan Haggerty
Transport Phenomena Of Multiphase Flow And Slippery Microsphere Suspensions In Confined Space, Ryan Haggerty
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Understanding multiphase flow has many important environmental and engineering applications. For example, understanding gas flow in porous media is useful for energy storage, petroleum engineering, and contaminant cleanup. Nano- and microparticle transport is vital for enhanced oil recovery techniques and environmental contamination. Despite their relevance to environmental engineering, multiphase flows, especially with concentrated particle suspensions, are still a complex and developing topic. Additionally, hydrophobic surfaces are a relatively new area of research, for while the effects of hydrophobicity are observable, the mechanisms may occur on several scales. Hydrophobicity leads to a property called “slip,” which contradicts the traditional treatment of …

Analytical Solution Of The Green’S Functions For The Poisson Problem Outside A Disk, Mohammad Khorrami
Analytical Solution Of The Green’S Functions For The Poisson Problem Outside A Disk, Mohammad Khorrami
Turkish Journal of Physics
The Poisson problem in the space outside of a disk is investigated. Specifically, the Green’s function corresponding to the problem is calculated. The Green’s function equation is separable in terms of (oblate) ellipsoidal coordinates. Therefore, these coordinates are used to obtain a series expression for the Green’s function. This is done for both the Dirichlet and Neumann problems. The result is used to calculate the electric potential for some examples, with specific boundary conditions on a disk.

An Immersive Placements And Moral Growth At Barretstown: Integrating A Transformative Framework With Preservice Teachers In Marianist Teacher Education, Jeremy R. Mills, Annie Chiles, Caroline Miller, Lauren Windsor
Thomas C. Hunt Building a Research Community Day
This study examines how immersive experiential learning at Barretstown, a therapeutic camp in Ireland, nurtures intellectual, ethical, and spiritual growth in preservice teachers. Framed by William James’ four characteristics of mystical experience — ineffability, noetic quality, transiency, and passivity — and grounded in the Marianist philosophy of education, the research employs a qualitative, phenomenological design. Reflective narratives from three teacher candidates were thematically coded, revealing transformative experiences marked by ineffable joy, revelatory insight, enduring impact, and openness to grace. Findings suggest that experiential learning integrated with spiritual and communal formation cultivates educators grounded in empathy, moral awareness, and authentic presence.
