Neutrosophic Mcdm Methodology For Risk Assessment Of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, Shimaa S. Mohamed, Ahmed Abdel-Monem, Alshaimaa A. Tantawy

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Due to its usefulness in several industries and the military, researchers have concentrated on developing autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). However, AUV navigation continues to be a difficult challenge to solve owing to the variety of underwater settings. The usage of AUVs, or autonomous underwater vehicles, is not without dangers like malfunction, ecological risks, loss of communications, cybersecurity risks, collisions, and others. There are many criteria to assess these risks technical, operational, economic, and regulatory. So, the methods of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) is used to deal with these various criteria. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method is an MCDM methodology, that …

Even with limited resources, succession planning adds value to smaller organizations. An analysis of the current talent within a given organization can aid in developing backups and potential successors for any critical roles. Maintaining competitive salaries …

Should Cities Offer Remote Work?, Colleen Martin

Certified Public Manager® Applied Research

In December 2019, the SARS-CoV-2 virus was discovered in Wuhan, China. This highly contagious virus soon spread rapidly throughout the world and brought many countries and cities to a standstill through lockdowns, travel bans, and fear of illness and death. Many employers abandoned in-person work to prevent the spread of what became known as COVID-19, or COVID. Plans were made instead for employees to work from home as employers created modified work environments and moved meetings to online platforms. In 2022, once the virus was considered to be under control and fear began to subside, employers began to reopen for …

Developing A Strategic Plan For Municipal Housing Infill, Robert G. Vine

Certified Public Manager® Applied Research

In order for some cities to be competitive for growth, there is a need to emphasize efforts on creating infill. Swapping abandoned, run down houses for new ones benefits the immediate neighborhood and ripples outward through the entire community. Municipalities can proactively work with stakeholders to create a strategic plan to rehabilitate these properties and breathe new life into an existing neighborhood. By stepping into the role of promotor, designer, facilitator, and coordinator, a city can create an environment that is attractive to builders and developers, add housing, and add value to the community. Cities that successfully create partnerships with …

The Impact Of Russia-Ukraine War On Energy Policy Maneuvers To Strengthen Energy Security And Cybersecurity In Indonesia, Bobby Adhityo Rizaldi, Abdi Manab Idris, Nurbaiti Nurbaiti

Journal of Terrorism Studies

The war between Russia and Ukraine is highly discussed in global geopolitics and geostrategy. The strategy of attacking Russia directly at the point of a vital national object, namely the power plant, which was preceded by a cyber attack at the Nuclear Power Plant in Chornobyl, followed by a conventional physical attack from the air, resulted in an energy crisis in Ukraine. The resulting war affects many sectors, such as the energy sector, food, and supply chains, especially (at the end of 2021) before the war. WTI oil price was only around 75$/barrel, but when the war broke out, the …

Exploring China’S Response To The Rohingya Crisis: A Liberal Perspective, Changrui Yuan, Brice Tseen Fu Lee

Journal of Terrorism Studies

This paper examines China's response to the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar from a theoretical perspective, drawing on both liberal and Asian cultural values. The study adopts a qualitative approach and employs document analysis to collect data. The findings suggest that China's response to the crisis can be explained by the liberal values of interdependence, cooperation, and institutionalism, which have guided China's peaceful and cooperative approach to resolving the conflict. However, the study also reveals the importance of Asian cultural values, particularly empathy and save-face, in shaping China's diplomatic behavior towards the crisis. The paper argues that China's response to the …

Coordination Rigidity In The Gait, Posture, And Speech Of Persons With Parkinson’S Disease, Dobromir Dotov, Valérie Cochen De Cock, Valérie Driss, Benoît Brady, Simone Dalla Bella

Journal Articles

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is associated with reduced coordination abilities. These can result either in random or rigid patterns of movement. The latter, described here as coordination rigidity (CR), have been studied less often. We explored whether CR was present in gait, quiet stance, and speech—tasks involving coordination among multiple joints and muscles. Kinematic and voice recordings were used to compute measures describing the dynamics of systems with multiple degrees of freedom and nonlinear interactions. After clinical evaluation, patients with moderate stage PD were compared against matched healthy participants. In the PD group, gait dynamics was associated with decreased dynamic divergence—lower …

Between Cocama And Modernity In The Ucamara (Peruvian Amazon), Marta Krokoszyńska May 2023

Between Cocama And Modernity In The Ucamara (Peruvian Amazon), Marta Krokoszyńska

Tipití: Journal of the Society for the Anthropology of Lowland South America

Combining a contemporary ethnographic perspective with a review of historical records, the article extends Peter Gow’s re-reading of the ex-Cocama phenomenon in the Western Amazon. It argues that the foundation of the Amazonian Peruvian town of Requena at the beginning of the 20th century took place during an important historical moment in the region. Within the post-rubber boom context, schools became a particularly important idiom that enabled Requena’s growth as the centre of education and modernity. The paper investigates relations between the widespread desire for education in the Ucamara region, and Cocama descendants’ and other “ribereño” ex-Mainas peoples’ specific notions …

Queer Rights After Dobbs V. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Robin Maril May 2023

Queer Rights After Dobbs V. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Robin Maril

San Diego Law Review

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has ignited a firestorm of commentary warning that the end of Roe v. Wade would inevitably lead to the end of constitutionally protected queer rights. This article argues that it is far too soon to concede that Lawrence v. Texas and Obergefell v. Hodges are destined for the dustbin of history. Queer rights and abortion rights both advance equality and have significant liberatory value, but they are functionally different rights that rest on distinct legal foundations. Although both sets of rights may be essential to a progressive platform for inclusive political and social change, …

Russia's Roulette: Sanctions, Strange Contracts & Sovereign Default, Lev E. Breydo

San Diego Law Review

The Russian Federation stands on the edge of financial abyss—excommunicated from the world economy and facing its first foreign currency sovereign default in over a century. Just deserts.

This Article is the first comprehensive, multi-disciplinary analysis of Russia’s sovereign debt and the consequences of a default. It makes a number of critically important findings with immediate implications for policy makers and practitioners navigating these wholly unchartered waters.

Based on an in-depth analysis of a quarter-century of Russian debt contracts, this Article posits a clear, geopolitically-driven evolutive patten and corresponding taxonomy. Starting with relatively “standard” terms in late-1990s vintage bonds, as …

Agendamelding And Covid-19: The Dance Of Horizontal And Vertical Media In A Pandemic, J. Benjamin Taylor, Milad Minooie, Chris J. Vargo

Faculty Articles

How are attitudes formed in the 21st Century, and who sets the agenda for initial COVID-19 coverage in the United States? We explore these questions using a random sample of 6 million tweets from a population of 224 million tweets collected between January 2020 and June 2020. In conjunction with a content analysis of legacy media such as newspapers, we examine the second-level agendamelding process during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The findings demonstrate that in the early weeks of the pandemic, public opinion on Twitter about the virus was distinctly different than the coverage …

BACKGROUND: Single-cell RNA-seq has emerged as an innovative technology used to study complex tissues and characterize cell types, states, and lineages at a single-cell level. Classification of bulk tumors by their individual cellular constituents has also created new opportunities to generate single-cell atlases for many organs, cancers, and developmental models. Despite the tremendous promise of this technology, recent evidence studying epithelial tissues and diverse carcinomas suggests the methods used for tissue processing, cell disaggregation, and preservation can significantly bias gene expression and alter the observed cell types. To determine whether sarcomas - tumors of mesenchymal origin - are subject to …

Background: Penile prosthesis surgery (PPS) is a commonly used treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), either as first-line therapy or in cases refractory to other treatment options. In patients with a urologic malignancy such as prostate cancer, surgical interventions like radical prostatectomy (RP) as well as non-surgical treatments such as radiation therapy can all induce ED. PPS as a treatment for ED has high satisfaction rates in the general population. Our aim was to compare sexual satisfaction in patients with prosthesis implantation for ED following RP versus ED following radiation therapy for prostate cancer.

Methods: A retrospective chart review from our …

The Impact Of Technological Innovation On Labor Structure: Evidence From Vietnam Smes, Dam Duc Le May 2023

The Impact Of Technological Innovation On Labor Structure: Evidence From Vietnam Smes, Dam Duc Le

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

To examine the technological innovation and labor structure nexus at micro level in Vietnam, this paper depends on a comprehensive dataset retrieved from the Vietnam SME Survey (VSMES) between 2005 and 2015. After accounting for endogeneity and firm heterogeneity, this study finds that technological innovation exhibits significantly positive impact on total labor of Vietnam’s SMEs. Moreover, technological innovation adoption is associated with higher rate of skilled labor while lowering the rate of unskilled labor in firms. The same results are discovered for manufacturing firms; however, the employment effect of technological innovation seems only significant in low-technology sectors.

The Dynamic Of Indonesia’S Sectoral Economic Cycles, Monica Karina Anastasia, Pahmi Utamaraja Ginting, Risqia Fadhilah Syahrir, Oki Hermansyah, Muhamad Shiroth

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

The purpose of this study is to observe the dynamic of Indonesia’s economic cycles for six main sectors. In constructing the cycles, we use quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) for six Indonesian sectors over the period 2000-2021. We obtain the economic cycles for each of the six sectors using Hodrick-Prescott filter and Christiano-Fitzgerald filter techniques. We find evidence that five of six sectors have relatively strong correlation with the aggregate GDP growth cycle. Additionally, by using the concordance index, we further conclude that three sectors are pro-cyclical with the aggregate GDP growth cycle.
