An Outlook For Employing The "Initial Coin Offering" (Ico) For The Issuance Of "Islamic Smart Sukuk" Across The Blockchain, Dr. Mohiuddin Adnan Al-Hajjar
مجلة جامعة الإمارات للبحوث القانونية UAEU LAW JOURNAL
The Blockchain introduced new concepts related to the field of finance especially by giving birth to cryptocurrencies. This technical tool is for some a revolution in the business world, while other conservatives are careful about this new technology. Among its various applications, ICO represent an attractive solution for companies seeking capital.
The Islamic orientation of ICO can be an alternative for Islamic financing of projects and businesses to the general public, i.e. companies or individuals. Our analytical and comparative approach is to prove that:
- The issue via an ICO results in the appearance of a Token representing the co-ownership …

Examination Of Training On Pre-Service Science Teachers’ Views On Socio-Scientific Issues And Nature Of Science, Aylin Çam
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
Science continuously interacts with the social environment. Science develops with social needs, and society develops and changes with scientific advances. These changes and developments may cause dilemmas in society. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the improvements among pre-service science teachers in terms of socio-scientific issues and nature of science after explicit theoretical and practical training. The participants in this case study were 16 voluntary pre-service science teachers. In-depth views of the pre-service science teachers on nature of science and socio-scientific issues were examined with open-ended questions and reflective diaries. After the training, the understanding of the …

School Leaders’ Supports Of Dual Language Science Teachers, Monica E. Manning, Casey Graham Brown
School Leadership Review
English learners account for 21.7% of the Texas public school system (Texas Education Agency, 2022). This qualitative study was conducted to examine how teachers of English learners in a dual language program perceived the educational supports they received affected student achievement in science. Teacher participants were asked about their experiences with administrative supports and how those supports affected their teaching and student performance. Two administrators were also interviewed for the study.
The teacher participants identified administrative supports they perceived to be beneficial to student learning and to the functioning of the EL program and science classroom. The administrative supports identified …

Utilizing Few-Shot Meta Learning Algorithms For Medical Image Segmentation, Nick Littlefield
Utilizing Few-Shot Meta Learning Algorithms For Medical Image Segmentation, Nick Littlefield
Thinking Matters Symposium
Deep learning models can be difficult to train because they require large amounts of data, which we usually do not have or are too expensive to get or annotate. To overcome this problem, we can use few-shot meta-learning, which allows us to train deep learning models with little data. Using a few examples, meta-learning, or learning-to-learn, aims to use the experience learned during training to generalize to unknown tasks. Medical imaging is an industry where it is particularly useful, as there is limited publicly available data due to patient privacy concerns and annotating costs.
This project examines how meta-learning performs …
Leading Development Of Skilled Workers: Transforming Unskilled Labor To Skilled Craft Labor In The Pulp And Paper Manufacturing Industry, Brian Barnes
Thinking Matters Symposium
The demand for entry level skilled trades workers in the pulp and paper industry has far outnumbered the supply of workers currently available in the United States. Many pulp and paper manufactures have dozens or even hundreds of unfilled high paying jobs with great benefits currently available. Concurrently to this, an available workforce of unskilled workers with little to no formal technical training remains available. These unskilled workers are frequently working in lower wage jobs with poor benefits that offer very little opportunity for advancement. This research explores and attempts to identify what is the most effective process that can …

Migration And Terrorism In Europe: A Nexus Of Two Crises, Shreya Sinha
International Journal on Responsibility
The migration surge into the borders of the European Union has become a major problem in Europe as it has led to several challenges to societal integration and political legitimacy. It is also a danger to cultural identity, domestic and labour market stability as well as internal security, such that a migrant is often perceived as a threat to European society. The first part of the paper attempts to throw light on this migration-security nexus in Europe and how migration has developed into a security issue. The second part discusses how the two crises of migration and terrorism have come …

The Covid-19 Pandemic And Immigration- A Case Study Of Sweden, Sayantan Ghosal
International Journal on Responsibility
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought challenges to the trend of immigration, rules of immigration, and immigrants in the state. For those Swedish employers who employ non-EU citizens, the outbreak has created several business immigration-related issues. In addition to this, refugees are also a vulnerable group in society who face several challenges ranging from asylum to integration. Compromised living conditions and health facilities put them at greater health risks if infected with the virus. The long-term consequences of this pandemic in the case of refugees may also take the form of unemployment and social isolation. The paper focuses on labour immigrants …
Role Of Civil Society Organisations In Sweden For The Immigrants, Surabhi Singh
Role Of Civil Society Organisations In Sweden For The Immigrants, Surabhi Singh
International Journal on Responsibility
Various factors like globalisation and conflicts in many countries have led to a dramatic increase of immigrants in Sweden. Since the year 2000, fewer seekers have arrived in other Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, and Norway) compared to Sweden which has experienced a significantly higher number of asylum seekers. The number of asylum seekers in Sweden is highest after Germany in all of Europe. The influx of migrants has put significant pressure on the country’s social services. Civil society is an important institution is plays a major role in the successful integration of migrants in the labour market and society with …

Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics
The recovery of marine megafauna can lead to improved ecosystem function and services, but not all stakeholders may benefit equally. Quantifying the local economic value of a species’ presence may appeal to broader range of stakeholders when developing conservation strategies. This study aims to examine the economic effect recreational activities can have on a local region, and to determine what role the presence of southern sea otters (Enhydra lutris nereis) had on the value visitors placed on the visit and the area’s preservation. We surveyed visitors to Elkhorn Slough, a small estuary in California known for diverse wildlife, …

Journal of Health Research
Background: This hospital-based cross-sectional study aimed to examine the association between diabetes-specific quality of life (QoL), diabetes-related clinical characteristics and glycemic control among type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients.
Methods: 335 T2DM patients receiving treatment at the diabetes clinic of a tertiary hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, were recruited into the study. The Audit of Diabetes-Dependent Quality of Life (ADDQoL19) was used to assess QoL. The ADDQoL scores were split into two groups using quartiles. The group in the lower quartile was considered as “having low QoL.” Hemoglobin A1c (A1C) was used as an index of glycemic control.
Results: 67.8% of participants …

The Intersection Of Internet Gaming Disorder And Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Among Children And Adolescents: A Review Of Literature, Paige Seymour, Tony Michael
Journal of Counseling and Psychology
The literature review aims to explore the relationship between Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. The paper is based on a literature search using PubMed, ResearchGate, MDPI, and Google Scholar. This review included examinations of IGD and ADHD among children and adolescents separately and bi-directionally. Considering current trends and data indicate a consistent increase in correlations between IGD and ADHD among children and adolescents, particularly in impulsivity and behavioral disturbance symptoms. While these results have implications for all professionals working with children and adolescents, special attention is given to clinical mental health professionals. The …

Response: The Constitution Has Never Recognized Us As Full Persons: Or To What Politics Are Our "Protections" Returning?, Marlon M. Bailey
ConLawNOW
This response engages with Marc Spindelman’s article, The New Intersectional and Anti-Racist LGBTQIA+ Politics: Some Thoughts on the Path Ahead, which offers a rethinking of critical precision about what is on the horizon for LGBTQ rights. The response calls for a reframing of the conversation by starting from the understanding that the Constitution, and by extension the law, is a political document and thus no realm of the Constitution or the law is impervious to politics. It then argues that instead of seeking recognition as full persons in the law and looking to a political document—the Constitution—for refuge from …

This study estimates the association of participation in a nine-week online educational program to prepare students for post-graduate (juris doctorate) education and law school grades. We collected registrar data from 17 U.S. law schools for participants and non-participants from the same year and a prior year. We compared first-semester law school grades between participating and non-participating students weighted by propensity scores. Course participation was associated with improved first-semester grades in a keyed course (Contracts Law) and overall grade point average. According to pre- and post-survey responses, a substantial portion of those who completed the program reported feeling more prepared for …
