What Impact Did The Tcja Tax Cuts Have On The Manufacturing Sector?, Ryan Parker
What Impact Did The Tcja Tax Cuts Have On The Manufacturing Sector?, Ryan Parker
Accounting Undergraduate Honors Theses
Throughout this paper I will examine positive effects the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 had on the manufacturing sector. To do this I begin by outlining the key provisions in the TCJA that directly benefit the manufacturing sector. This includes the corporate tax rate reduction from 35 percent to 21 percent, the changes to the repatriation tax for foreign funds, and the treatment for capital assets. I then analyze key metrics including pre-tax income, income tax provision, dividends, changes in retained earnings, and spending on property plant and equipment. I will show the interactions between the increase in …
20 Years In The Making: Do Executive Compensation Clawback Policies Have Claws?, Brielle Mackinnon
20 Years In The Making: Do Executive Compensation Clawback Policies Have Claws?, Brielle Mackinnon
Accounting Undergraduate Honors Theses
Compensation clawback policies allow shareholders to recoup any incentive compensation that executives earn based on reported financial performance metrics that are subsequently determined to be misstated. They were introduced to encourage top executives to take increased responsibility for the financial statements, and to give shareholders increased security when designing compensation contracts for executives. Clawback policies have existed in several different forms for the past 20 years. In this study, I review the history of clawbacks, and discuss the enforcement (or lack thereof) of such provisions by regulators and corporations. The goal of my study is to further the understanding of …

Learning, Optimizing, And Simulating Fermions With Quantum Computers, Andrew Zhao
Learning, Optimizing, And Simulating Fermions With Quantum Computers, Andrew Zhao
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
Fermions are fundamental particles which obey seemingly bizarre quantum-mechanical principles, yet constitute all the ordinary matter that we inhabit. As such, their study is heavily motivated from both fundamental and practical incentives. In this dissertation, we will explore how the tools of quantum information and computation can assist us on both of these fronts. We primarily do so through the task of partial state learning: tomographic protocols for acquiring a reduced, but sufficient, classical description of a quantum system. Developing fast methods for partial tomography addresses a critical bottleneck in quantum simulation algorithms, which is a particularly pressing issue for …
Water Quality For Livestock, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Water Quality For Livestock, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Animal production and livestock factsheets
Measure water quality and quantity to effectively plan and monitor water supplies for livestock. If water quality is poor, livestock may drink less than they need, or rarely, may stop drinking altogether. When animals drink less, they will eat less and lose condition, and if they are lactating, their milk production will reduce or cease.
Water quality for livestock in Western Australia is most affected by water salinity, and the presence of water contaminants such as blue-green algae, organic material, heavy metals and chemicals.

Attention To The Integration Of Literacy: A Systematic Review Of Early Math Interventions In Informal Learning Environments, Hannah Carter, Gena Nelson, Peter Boedeker, Claire Werlin Buckmiller, Jessie Eames, Emma Knowles
Literacy, Language and Culture Faculty Publications and Presentations
Links between the development of early literacy and math skills are well documented. This systematic review focuses on how literacy is incorporated into informal math intervention studies for children in preschool to third grade, which has implications for researchers and those training caregivers to support their children at home. We reviewed 51 experimental or quasi-experimental studies published from 1981 to 2021 that investigated the effectiveness of math interventions in informal learning environments with a caregiver interventionist. Findings revealed that 100% of studies included literacy in some way. We also investigated what types of literacy activities were integrated, how literacy was …

Numerical Investigation Of Supersonic Flow Over A Wedge By Solving 2d Euler Equations Utilizing The Steger–Warming Flux Vector Splitting (Fvs) Scheme, Mitch Wolff, Hashim H. Abada, Hussein Awad Kurdi Awad Kurdi Saad
Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications
Supersonic flow over a half-angle wedge (θ = 15°) with an upstream Mach number of 2.0 was investigated using 2D Euler equations where sea level conditions were considered. The investigation employed the Steger–Warming flux vector splitting (FVS) method executed in MATLAB 9.13.0 (R2022b) software. The study involved a meticulous comparison between theoretical calculations and numerical results. Particularly, the research emphasized the angle of oblique shock and downstream flow properties. A substantial iteration count of 2000 iteratively refined the outcomes, underscoring the role of advanced computational resources. Validation and comparative assessment were conducted to elucidate the superiority of the Steger–Warming flux …

Prevalence Of Traumatic Brain Injury Among The Guests At A Low-Barrier Homeless Shelter, Nicholas Ang, Jason Wasserman
Prevalence Of Traumatic Brain Injury Among The Guests At A Low-Barrier Homeless Shelter, Nicholas Ang, Jason Wasserman
Posters
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern, characterized by disruption of normal brain function due to head trauma, with common causes including automobile accidents, athletic injuries, and assault. TBI accounts for a substantial portion of injury-related deaths worldwide and is a leading cause of neurological disability. However, there's considerable variability in defining and measuring TBI, complicating prevalence comparisons. Studies indicate varying rates, with a particularly high prevalence among individuals experiencing homelessness, potentially due to increased vulnerability to trauma. The cognitive impairments associated with TBI, often manifesting years later, pose challenges, especially for marginalized populations like the homeless, …

Between 1939 - 1945, unethical and often ghastly human experimentation was conducted in Nazi concentration camps. Physicians working in the camps also performed selections of prisoners for work detail or immediate death. Ultimately, there was a significant amount of physician complicity in Nazism and the Holocaust, ie. the genocide of European Jewry. At the end of WWII, war crime trials against the doctors and scientists involved helped give rise to the Nuremberg Code of Ethics.
There are increasing calls for inclusion of education on medicine during the Holocaust in medical school curricula. A study trip to Poland with pre-trip study …

Nondelegation And Native Nations, Seth Davis
Nondelegation And Native Nations, Seth Davis
Connecticut Law Review
There is no nondelegation doctrine for Native nations, nor should there be one even if the Supreme Court revives the nondelegation doctrine for federal agencies and private parties. The Court has never struck down a statute on the ground that it delegated legislative power to a Native nation. Instead, it has held that Congress may recognize the sovereignty of Native nations and that their independent authority sustains statutes that rely upon Native governments to implement policy goals that they share with the United States. The Court’s deferential approach is consistent with the rational-basis standard of review that applies to Indian …

Despite the thousands of planets in orbit around stars known to date, the mechanisms of planetary formation, migration, and atmospheric loss remain unresolved. In this work, we confirm the planetary nature of a young Saturn-size planet transiting a solar-type star every 8.03 d, TOI-1135 b. The age of the parent star is estimated to be in the interval of 125-1000 Myr based on various activity and age indicators, including its stellar rotation period of 5.13 ± 0.27 days and the intensity of photospheric lithium. We obtained follow-up photometry and spectroscopy, including precise radial velocity measurements using the CARMENES spectrograph, which …
A Comparative Analysis Of Sacred Harp And Convention Style Music: Similarities And Differences Of Performance Practice, Chad Hunt
Doctoral Projects
Historically, choral conductors draw from Western European choral traditions when programming music. They tend to avoid selecting early American music, mainly due to lack of knowledge and exposure. Shaped-note music was a foundational component to the early American musical tradition. Upon entering college, many musicians have no concept of shaped-note music, and therefore often overlook this unique and rich heritage. Without the resources and skills, a conductor cannot be expected to feature this important genre in their choral programs. When asked about shaped-note music, most musicians reply that they know this music exists, but that is the extent of the …

Profit, Mission, And Protest At Work, Marion Crain
Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)
The classic understanding of capitalism maintains that the social responsibility of business is to increase its profits. But in the last decade, many firms have announced commitments to various social justice issues, folding them into corporate mission statements, codes of corporate social responsibility, and branding. Firms engaging in so-called “woke capitalism” signal their virtuous support for progressive social causes favored by both their consumer base and their idealistic young workers. This has become particularly important in a tight labor market: by targeting workers' values, savvy firms increase recruiting yields, enhance productivity, and reduce training costs as retention rates rise, while …
