This case is about the dental management of a 78-year-old male patient with significant systemic health issues, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and polycythemia vera, under treatment with valsartan and atorvastatin. The patient expressed a desire to improve his dental aesthetics, particularly through the application of veneers. Clinical examination revealed an edentulous space at the locations corresponding to teeth #19 and #30, with #30 fractured at the gumline, and incisal chipping of the lower anterior teeth. The treatment plan was multifaceted, prioritizing the stabilization of the patient's periodontal health through prophylactic cleaning, followed by caries control. This involved resin fillings on teeth …

Introduction:
This retrospective study explores how the full moon and various lunar phases correlate to the frequency of emergency department (ED) psychiatric consultations and admissions. The idea that lunar cycles may influence human behavior has long been a subject of fascination and folklore. However, empirical evidence in the context of psychiatric presentations in the ED remains limited. There are some contradictory research studies on how the full moon impacts human health and behavior. Various studies suggest a connection between lunar phases and neurological, reproductive, endocrine, immunological, cardiovascular, and inflammatory diseases, while other studies show no correlation between lunar phases and …

Evaluation Of Us Immigration Policies For Technology Professionals, Angel Contreras Cruz
Evaluation Of Us Immigration Policies For Technology Professionals, Angel Contreras Cruz
Student Research Symposium
The U.S. Immigration System is complex for technology professionals seeking to relocate to the United States for employment or education. The United States relies on its employment-based immigration to attract and select the best talent to fill the shortage of skilled jobs. Technology professionals, a stream of highly skilled immigrants, tend to contribute and be more beneficial to the U.S. economy, which is one of the principles of U.S. immigration policies. Although U.S. immigration policies are constantly updating, policymakers, experts, and scholars suggest that the United States needs significant immigration reform to solve current issues, such as improving technological capabilities …
Youtube Video Essays As Critical Remixed Scholarship, Michelle L. Arendt
Youtube Video Essays As Critical Remixed Scholarship, Michelle L. Arendt
Student Research Symposium
YouTube videos have contributed primary and supplementary instructional materials to traditional classrooms since the 2010s (Sylvia & Moody, 2022). These internet-native materials are more successful than their traditional counterparts due to their recontextualization which melds dissemination with the semiotic landscape of web 2.0 culture.
Preferential treatment towards long-form, research-based content has facilitated the development of the YouTube video essay format: a grassroots practice that unapologetically embeds identity, pop culture, and humor with rigorous scholarly praxis and remediation of major elements of academic discourse (Davis, 2022). Videos of this type regularly reach “audiences which may rival or dwarf the enrollment of …

In Defense Of The Free-Banking Stablecoins, Ian Fong, Moin A. Yahya
Journal of Technology Law & Policy
Stablecoins, a form of crypto-currencies, have come under increasing regulatory scrutiny. The justification for this arises by analogizing the stablecoins to banknotes issued in the early nineteenth century during a period known as the free-banking era. During that era, banks in many states were free to issue their own notes with little supervision. The results, according to the critics, were an unstable banking system that resulted in the federal government printing its own money. In this Article, we examine the history of that era looking at judicial decisions from that time. We conclude that the judiciary had no qualms about …

Preserving The Dignity Of The Irish In "Translations", Diana J. Schoder
Preserving The Dignity Of The Irish In "Translations", Diana J. Schoder
The Downtown Review: An Interdisciplinary Journal Written and Peer-Reviewed by Mandel Honors College Students at Cleveland State University
Focusing on the Anglicization of town names in Brian Friel’s Translations, this article analyzes the significance of translation, beyond names as agents of linguistic imperialism and functions or symbols of identity. Using a Christian lens to demonstrate the intrinsic dignity signified in a name combined with a colonization case study in the Danish West Indies attesting to the injuries of denying a given name, the irreversible damage of translating names into a non-native language is clear. At the same time, imposing Anglicized names on the Irish community allows opportunities for resistance, such as continuing the private use of the …

Why People Pee In Public: Is A Lack Of Public Restrooms Keeping Portland Too Weird?, Cece Austin
Student Research Symposium
Various factors, including gender, housing status, socioeconomic status, and disability, impact access to public restrooms in Portland, Oregon. A pilot program involving the implementation of public restrooms has caused a significant reduction in public defecation in San Francisco. This research demonstrates the efficacy of this existing working model, which could be similarly implemented in Portland with some adjustments. Portland has the Portland Loos, which are single-stall, outdoor public restrooms. Still, many are not open 24 hours. An analysis of publicly available Google reviews indicates consistent poor cleanliness and Portland Loos being locked at times when they are advertised to be …
