Closing Keynote: Publishing In 2026: How We Got Into Such Trouble And How We Get Out Of It, Virginia (Ginny) Barbour

FORCE 2026

It would be hard to find anyone who is currently involved in scholarly publishing who think it works well for them, or who think that the system is underpinned by the values they care about. And all of this is at a time when trust in what is published has never been more important.

We are at a time when what we do now will shape the future of scholarly publishing, and the choices we make will shape how open, trustworthy and reproducible that future system is. These choices provide both opportunities and challenges for everyone involved in the system …

From National Pid Strategies To A Global Pid Standard: Defining What Counts As A Pid, John Chodacki Jun 2026

From National Pid Strategies To A Global Pid Standard: Defining What Counts As A Pid, John Chodacki

FORCE 2026

Over the last two years, national and regional PID strategies, including the US National PID Strategy, have helped communities to adopt and integrate persistent identifiers into research workflows. These strategies have highlighted a crucial next step: reaching a shared understanding of what actually constitutes a PID.

Building on the momentum of these strategies, NISO and RDA-US have launched a working group to develop a formal standard defining the characteristics of a persistent identifier system. This standard will help funders, institutions, infrastructure providers, and policymakers make consistent decisions about which identifiers to mandate, support, and integrate into workflows. This presentation will …

Comparative Study Of Alginate- And Gum Arabic-Based Liposomal Carboplatin Delivery System, Israa R. Mohammed, Fatimah J. Al-Hasani, Emad S. Al-Hasani

Engineering and Technology Journal

Carboplatin is a common chemotherapeutic drug that has systemic toxicity and low selectivity. This study compares two liposomal drug delivery systems based on natural materials, alginate and gum Arabic, and evaluates the effect of the polymer structure on nanoparticle characteristics, drug release, and anticancer activity. The novelty of this work is the direct link between the polymer architecture and the performance of the drug delivery system on the same platform. Nanoscale formulations were successfully prepared for both formulations. The particle size of gum Arabic was significantly smaller (50 nm) than that of the alginate (170 nm). TEM confirmed the presence …

Probabilistic Characterization Of Voltage Glitching Attacks, Anna Filyurina Jun 2026

Probabilistic Characterization Of Voltage Glitching Attacks, Anna Filyurina

Computer Science Senior Theses

Glitching, or Fault Injection, is an effective hardware hacking technique used in industry but largely unstudied in academia. Industry-led study of glitching is result-driven and overwhelmingly proprietary, meaning that a scientific approach to glitching is seen infrequently and published even less.

This thesis aims to be part of the effort to bring glitching to the attention of the academic side of the cyber security community. Specifically, this work aims to characterize and explore the probabilistic nature of fault injection that has been previously overlooked. Although from a purely result-driven point of view probabilistic nature of a phenomenon suggests unreliability and …

Wounded Domestic Ecologies: Ecofeminist Readings Of Gendered Trauma In Purple Hibiscus, Erere Victory Iwhi Jun 2026

Wounded Domestic Ecologies: Ecofeminist Readings Of Gendered Trauma In Purple Hibiscus, Erere Victory Iwhi

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Purple Hibiscus through an ecofeminist and postcolonial ecocritical lens, developing the concept of "wounded domestic ecology" to analyze how gendered violence operates within domestic space. Drawing on trauma studies, particularly J. R. Kurtz and Rob Nixon's concept of slow violence, it argues that harm in the novel is accumulative, produced through repetition, surveillance, ritual, and spatial regulation. Eugene's household functions as an environment that disciplines bodies, governs language, and embeds fear into everyday life. In contrast, Aunt Ifeoma's home in Nsukka offers a counter-ecology structured by sound, shared labor, and dialogic authority, interrupting the …

Publications and Research

The Caspian Sea, the Earth's largest inland water body, faces water level decline, drawing comparisons to the collapse of the Aral Sea. Unlike the Aral Sea, the relative roles of climatic variability, hydrological changes, and anthropogenic pressures on the Caspian Sea remain poorly understood. Here, we integrate satellite observations, in situ hydrological records and reanalysis data to examine recent drivers of the Caspian water loss. We show that total river inflow to the Caspian Sea has declined significantly, primarily due to reduced discharge from the Volga River. At the same time, precipitation over the basin has remained broadly stable, while …
