Toward An Account Of Visual Aesthetic Experience In Multimodal Large Language Models, Batuhan Saridede Jun 2026

Toward An Account Of Visual Aesthetic Experience In Multimodal Large Language Models, Batuhan Saridede

Cognitive Science Senior Theses

While Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) increasingly mediate visual culture, far less is known about how MLLMs themselves evaluate aesthetic value and how those evaluations shift under different beliefs about authorship. This thesis investigates how three commercial MLLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini) appraise visual artworks across six dimensions: liking, beauty, profundity, worth, narrativity, and intentionality. Using a balanced dataset of 100 artworks, half human-generated and half AI-generated, with representational and abstract works equally represented, each model evaluated every image under four provenance conditions: unspecified origin, inferred origin, assumed AI origin, and assumed human origin. Results show that representationalism in visual …

Political, Legal & Ethical Implications Of The United Nations Resolution 1441 & Its Resulting Iraq War, Anika Elyse Segall

Honors Projects

This paper analyzes the political, legal, & ethical implications of the United Nations Resolution 1441 & its resulting Iraq War. The central question of this paper is answered in these sections: 1. Politics: Is it politically convincing (whom did it convince and not convince) to invade Iraq?  2. Law: Is it legally convincing (which body of law) to invade Iraq? 3. Political Ethics: How has this informed how the US has conducted foreign policy and war-making in the Middle East since 2003?

Viewing Machines, Janos Cseh

Theses and Dissertations

By sifting through personal memories, the contemporary media landscape, and seeing the world through the lens of painting, Cseh asks what it means to understand information through images.  The artist unpacks the interwoven relationships between images and memory, feeling and seeing, and the difficulty of seeking truth through an analysis of his paintings.

Rape Pregnancies And Consequent Ptsd Resulting From The Overturn Of Roe V. Wade, Emma Lindenfelser, Yulia Garaeva, Nenette Nti-Agyemang, Ellen Davis, Anna Kabwa, Alexandra M Calaman

Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal

Prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, access to safe legal abortions was limited and often restricted along racial, economic, and geographic lines. Nearly fifty years later, women’s health policy evolved again following the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This court ruling decimated federal protections of abortion. This paper presents the research that the 2022 Dobbs judicial decision may contribute to and exacerbate rape-related PTSD on 1 out of 20 American who are unable to access a safe abortion after a rape-related pregnancy. Pregnant women living in conservative states that have outlawed …

Introduction:  Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a significant public health challenge in East Africa. Achieving the WHO 2030 target of reducing VL mortality to below 1% requires novel control strategies. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of three insecticide formulations for outdoor residual insecticide spraying (ORS) in selected villages of Amudat district, Uganda.

Methods:  A pragmatic clustered randomised controlled field trial was conducted in five clusters. Three clusters were randomly allocated to receive ORS with either α-cypermethrin, pirimiphos-methyl, or deltamethrin, while two clusters served as untreated controls. The primary outcome was the change in sandfly counts …

Litter Law, Sean Lyness Jun 2026

Litter Law, Sean Lyness

Brooklyn Law Review

The problem of litter—and the efforts Americans have taken to eradicate it—has largely been a footnote in the story of environmental law. But litter has never been a small issue, both in terms of the magnitude of the problem and the legal system’s attempts to address it. Every state in the country and thousands of municipalities have laws on litter. Few areas of law are so ubiquitous. I call this body of law “litter law.” This Article is the first piece of legal scholarship to comprehensively examine litter law. How did the thousands of laws regulating litter come to be? …

Ml Models For Child-Parent Speech Diarization, Kenneth Kang Jun 2026

Ml Models For Child-Parent Speech Diarization, Kenneth Kang

Computer Science and Engineering Senior Theses

This senior design thesis presents a machine learning research pipeline for child-parent and child-directed speech diarization. Speech diarization is the task of determining who spoke and when in an audio recording. Although this problem is well studied in adult meeting, broadcast, and conversational speech, child-parent audio is a more uneven setting. Children may speak in short turns, change pitch quickly, vocalize without producing clear words, interrupt adults, overlap with adult speech, cry, laugh, or code switch. These behaviors are normal in real family interaction, but they can confuse diarization systems that were mostly designed and evaluated on adult speech.

The …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Little is known about how or when language and visuospatial processing lateralise in the brain, and if individual differences in lateralisation are related to early language or visuospatial abilities. We explored if patterns of language and visuospatial lateralisation are related to cognitive skills in young children. A large sample of 3-year-olds (n = 136) attempted two functional transcranial Doppler ultrasound (fTCD) tasks to estimate language and visuospatial lateralisation. At the group level, language was lateralised to the left hemisphere, but visuospatial processing was weakly lateralised to the right hemisphere. The relationship between patterns of lateralisation and cognitive skills was investigated …

BACKGROUND: Intra-hospital transfers (IHT) of hospitalized children are unavoidable practices often performed with emergency patients and postoperative patients. Standardizing IHT processes to minimize adverse events might improve children's outcomes. We developed an evidence-based clinical practice IHT guideline for hospitalized children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation process and the effectiveness of the implementation of this guideline on patient outcomes, healthcare professionals' knowledge and behavior, and hospital organizational context.

METHODS: A type III hybrid effectiveness-implementation design was adopted, using a pre-post intervention trial (January-December 2024). Data of patient demographics, transport-related outcomes, and healthcare providers' knowledge and compliance …

Best Practices For Interprofessional, Community-Based Interventions In Preventing Type 2 Diabetes Among Adults Aged 50 And Older, Julie Joseph Mrs

Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration

The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is rapidly increasing among adults aged 50 years and older in the United States, posing a significant public health challenge. In 2021, an estimated 38.4 million Americans had diabetes, with adults aged 50years and above constituting a disproportionately large segment of this population. Evidence suggests that community-based lifestyle and educational interventions are effective in reducing the risk of T2DM among older adults. These interventions particularly promote dietary modification, increased physical activity, and diabetes education. Integrating the expertise of nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physicians, and other professionals through interprofessional collaboration strengthens diabetes prevention and …
