Digitalization Of Medicine Through Telemedicine: The Legal Framework And Medical Liability, Samira Krourou Jun 2026

Digitalization Of Medicine Through Telemedicine: The Legal Framework And Medical Liability, Samira Krourou

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

This study examines telemedicine as a modern medical practice linked to the technological and informational advancements that humanity has witnessed and that have been positively integrated into the medical field. It has become possible to examine and treat patients without requiring their physical presence in a clinic or hospital, unlike the traditional approach, that necessitates the patient's presence and direct contact with their physician. Contemporary medical practice is no longer confined to examination and prescription alone; it has expanded to encompass more complex domains, notably enabling remote surgical interventions. In light of technological progress in medicine, it has become necessary …

The Notarial Profession Between Legal Roots And The Challenges Of Digital Modernization, Yassine Ait Ahmed Jun 2026

The Notarial Profession Between Legal Roots And The Challenges Of Digital Modernization, Yassine Ait Ahmed

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

This paper focuses on returning to the origins of the legal regulation of the notarial profession, which is linked to the development of mechanisms for the protection of rights and systems governing legal transactions. This protection symbolizes one of the official functions of the State and is manifested in the field of evidence, as the documents issued by this authority, by virtue of the legal powers vested in it, enjoy the status of official (authentic) instruments. This status has been further strengthened with the adoption of digitization, which has required its development in order to meet the expectations of digital …

The Independence Of Supervisory Authorities: A Comparative Analysis Of Morocco's Law 09-08 And The European General Data Protection Regulation, Zakariyae Hamdani, Karim Seffar Jun 2026

The Independence Of Supervisory Authorities: A Comparative Analysis Of Morocco's Law 09-08 And The European General Data Protection Regulation, Zakariyae Hamdani, Karim Seffar

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

The effectiveness of personal data protection presupposes the establishment of supervisory authorities endowed with substantial independence, guarantors of fundamental rights and capable of preventing the risks inherent in data processing. However, the comparison between the European GDPR and Moroccan Law No. 09-08 reveals a manifest institutional asymmetry. Indeed, European authorities operate within a substantially more comprehensive normative framework, characterised by enshrined autonomy, extended prerogatives and enhanced operational efficiency. Conversely, the Moroccan CNDP remains afflicted by structural deficiencies: institutional dependence, lack of coercive powers and budgetary insufficiency. Consequently, this comparative investigation aims to identify the cardinal principles likely to inform a …

Deepfake: A Practice On The Edge Of Legality, Bouthaïna Aaziz Jun 2026

Deepfake: A Practice On The Edge Of Legality, Bouthaïna Aaziz

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

Deepfakes – hyperrealistic videos manipulated using deep learning algorithms – raise significant legal challenges touching on human rights and legal governance. A deepfake usurps the identity of its victim to exploit their credibility and reputation. This article examines the applicable legal framework, first identifying pre-existing rules from Moroccan law (civil liability, personal data protection under Law No. 09-08, criminal provisions of the Penal Code and Press Law No. 88-13) that can be applied to deepfakes, and then advocating for the adoption of an adapted legal framework. The author distinguishes between creative deepfakes (requiring informed consent) and manipulative deepfakes (requiring criminal …

Gafam And Competition Law: The Premises Of Regulation, El Mahdi Taimouri Jun 2026

Gafam And Competition Law: The Premises Of Regulation, El Mahdi Taimouri

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

GAFAM are among those structural digital platforms whose ultra-dominant position in digital markets and the originality of their practices raise unprecedented competition issues. Their spontaneous tendency toward concentration results from the implementation of innovative business models based on massive data capture and exploitation through high-performance algorithms. The specificities inherent in these web giants raise questions about the ability of classical competition law rules to ensure efficient regulation. Indeed, competitive regulation of these platforms raises essential challenges and proves indispensable, even if the effective realization of such an undertaking appears laborious.

From Legal Norms To Algorithmic Rules: Reflections On Blockchain And Smart Contracts, Yassine Dourhani, Fatim Ezzahra Boussetta Jun 2026

From Legal Norms To Algorithmic Rules: Reflections On Blockchain And Smart Contracts, Yassine Dourhani, Fatim Ezzahra Boussetta

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

Blockchain technology and smart contracts are profoundly reshaping contract law by partially replacing traditional legal rules with algorithmic norms based on automation and self-execution. By embedding the parties' agreement into computer code deployed on a distributed ledger, these technologies promise enhanced security, certainty of performance, and the reduction of traditional intermediaries. However, this emerging algorithmic normativity confronts fundamental requirements of contract law, particularly those relating to validity, flexibility in the face of unforeseen events, and the protection of contracting parties. While automatic execution strengthens technical efficiency, it also exposes significant legal limitations, including the rigidity of code, the absence of …

The Legal Challenges Of Blockchain In Relation To The Legal Professions, Hind Tak-Tak, Hanane Jalal Jun 2026

The Legal Challenges Of Blockchain In Relation To The Legal Professions, Hind Tak-Tak, Hanane Jalal

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

Blockchain technology was initially conceived as a disintermediation tool based on algorithmic trust, aiming to challenge the traditional role of trusted third parties in legal and economic relationships. By relying on distributed, immutable, and transparent ledgers, blockchain claims to offer an alternative to centralized institutions, particularly in the fields of evidence, contracts, and authentication. However, a legal analysis demonstrates that this promise of disintermediation remains largely relative. While blockchain enables technical certification of data and the automated execution of obligations through smart contracts, it does not ensure valid contract formation, effective protection of the weaker party, or compliance with the …

Gender Perspective(S): Lessons From International Human Rights Law To Defend Against Pregnancy Related Prosecutions, Megan Osadzinski Jun 2026

Gender Perspective(S): Lessons From International Human Rights Law To Defend Against Pregnancy Related Prosecutions, Megan Osadzinski

Northwestern Journal of Human Rights

The criminalization of pregnancy outcomes—such as miscarriages, abortion, obstetric emergencies, and stillbirth—is a violation of fundamental human rights guarantees; including the right to a fair trial when read in conjunction with the right to equality and the right to health. This article outlines state obligations under international human rights law toward women charged in pregnancy prosecutions, translating them into national criminal defense strategies using a gender perspective. Using intersectional theory, this article calls for the use of a gender perspective to challenge such prosecutions as unlawful gender-based discrimination and a gendered violation of due process, using the case study of …

Comparative Analysis Of Freedom Of Thought, Conscience, And Religion In India, Pakistan, And Bangladesh, Abhishek Chakrabarti Jun 2026

Comparative Analysis Of Freedom Of Thought, Conscience, And Religion In India, Pakistan, And Bangladesh, Abhishek Chakrabarti

Northwestern Journal of Human Rights

The freedom of thought, conscience, and religion is a fundamental human right enshrined in Article 18 of The Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR). However, religious minorities in South Asia are often deprived of this fundamental right. Muslims in India, Ahmadiyyas, Hindus, and Christians in Pakistan, and Hindus in Bangladesh face challenges including educational marginalization, economic and political marginalization, and social stigma in the society. The Note presents a comparative analysis of the freedom of thought, conscience, and religion across the three most populous countries in South Asia–India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh–that also share a long cultural, linguistic, and religious history. …

Li+/Na+ Hybrid Ion Conduction Mechanism In The Superionic Conductor Li3–XNaXZr2Si2Po12, Yi-Hong Wu, Xia Xie, Lei Zhu, Mu-Ran Yu, Guo-Tai Zhang, Jun-Chao Chen, Shu-Ying Sun, You-Wei Wang, Wei-Ping Tang Jun 2026

Li+/Na+ Hybrid Ion Conduction Mechanism In The Superionic Conductor Li3–XNaXZr2Si2Po12, Yi-Hong Wu, Xia Xie, Lei Zhu, Mu-Ran Yu, Guo-Tai Zhang, Jun-Chao Chen, Shu-Ying Sun, You-Wei Wang, Wei-Ping Tang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Hybrid ion conductors that transport multiple ionic conductive species provide a useful platform for understanding how mixed-ion transport governs ionic conductivity within a single phase. However, the controlled introduction of multiple mobile ions into solid-state electrolytes and a mechanistic understanding of their migration within the framework remain challenging. Herein, a skeleton-retained Li+↔Na+ cationic exchange was used to simultaneously induce Li+ and Na+ cations into the NASICON-type framework of Li3–xNaxZr2Si2PO12 (0 < x < 3). We show that the interpenetration of NaO6 and NaO8 coordination polyhedra significantly influences the ionic conductivity of hybrid ion conductors. Computational …

Bronx Jewish History Project

This interviewee looks back very fondly on his childhood growing up in the Bronx. His parents came to America from Poland in the early 1950s after being in a displaced persons camp in Germany, and settled in a one bedroom apartment on University Avenue off of Kingsbridge road. He recounts a diverse neighborhood, growing up not just around other Jewish people but people from Ireland, Italy, Poland, and of many religious backgrounds as well.

He remembers playing stickball, baseball, and other games on the concrete sidewalk, stating how he and his friends were happy, as “when you're a child and …

Thinking Silence Otherwise: Toward A “Research Other” In Qualitative Research, Rosa Vázquez Recio Jun 2026

Thinking Silence Otherwise: Toward A “Research Other” In Qualitative Research, Rosa Vázquez Recio

The Qualitative Report

Why ask about silence when it comes to research? This paper explores and analyzes how silence, unlike words and verbal expression, has received little attention in the data production process. Despite its different manifestations and meanings in social interactions and knowledge production, silence tends to be overlooked, ignored, or silenced. We focus on analyzing how we relate silence to evidence-based research to describe the “non-places” of silence in qualitative research, addressing controversies and issues. We propose a “research other,” grounded in decolonial approaches and Southern and feminist epistemologies, to argue for the inclusion of silence in the research process. …

Character Education Across School Contexts: A Qualitative Study Of High- And Regular-Performing Schools In Indonesia, Heri Retnawati, Zurqoni Zurqoni, Mukhamad Ilyasin, Hasan Djidu, Kartianom Kartianom, Ezi Apino Jun 2026

Character Education Across School Contexts: A Qualitative Study Of High- And Regular-Performing Schools In Indonesia, Heri Retnawati, Zurqoni Zurqoni, Mukhamad Ilyasin, Hasan Djidu, Kartianom Kartianom, Ezi Apino

The Qualitative Report

This qualitative study explores how character education is understood, organized, and enacted across two types of junior high schools in Indonesia: High-Performing Schools (HPS) and Regular-Performing Schools (RPS). Using semi-structured interviews with school leaders, teachers, parents, students, and school committee members from nine schools across three provinces, we examined how institutional conditions and relational practices shape the implementation of character education. Analysis generated four themes: variation in program management approaches, differences in implementation structures and stakeholder involvement, school inputs shaping program capacity, and community perceptions of character education outcomes. Findings show that HPS tend to institutionalize character education through structured …

Visibility By Design: Communication Infrastructures, Mediation, And Knowledge Transfer On Neurodivergence In Institutional Contexts En [Ponencia] Iamcr 2026, Bárbara Mercedes Castillo Abdul Hadi, María Beltrán-Rodríguez, Luis M. Romero-Rodriguez

Congresos y Conferencias

The social visibility of neurodivergence has become an increasingly salient object of inquiry within communication studies, particularly in relation to public communication, institutional communication, and processes of educational and social inclusion. Previous research has addressed this phenomenon primarily from the perspectives of health communication and awareness-raising campaigns, with a strong focus on stigma reduction and the improvement of public knowledge about neurodevelopmental conditions. However, these approaches have paid comparatively less attention to how communication intervenes in the transfer of scientific knowledge into applied contexts—such as the design of inclusive educational environments—and to its role in articulating the relationship between institutional …

Internal Communication As A Happiness Management–Oriented Organizational System: An Emergent Dimensions En [Ponencia] Iamcr 2026, Luis M. Romero-Rodriguez, Bárbara Mercedes Castillo-Abdul Hadi Jun 2026

Internal Communication As A Happiness Management–Oriented Organizational System: An Emergent Dimensions En [Ponencia] Iamcr 2026, Luis M. Romero-Rodriguez, Bárbara Mercedes Castillo-Abdul Hadi

Congresos y Conferencias

In contemporary organizations characterized by hybrid work arrangements, digital mediation, and heightened uncertainty, internal communication has emerged as a strategic infrastructure central to organizational cohesion, trust, and employee well-being. Far from being a purely instrumental function, internal communication operates as a constitutive system through which leadership practices, organizational culture, relational dynamics, and emotional experiences at work are continuously constructed and negotiated. Despite this centrality, organizational communication research has frequently addressed internal communication through fragmented approaches, focusing on isolated variables (such as job satisfaction, engagement, or trust) without articulating an integrated theoretical architecture capable of capturing its multidimensional and systemic nature. …

Topographic Control Of Forest Species Distributions In The Interior West From Forest Inventory And Analysis Data, R. Justin Derose, Matthew F. Bekker Jun 2026

Topographic Control Of Forest Species Distributions In The Interior West From Forest Inventory And Analysis Data, R. Justin Derose, Matthew F. Bekker

Wildland Resources Faculty Publications

The geographic distribution of forest and woodland ecosystems in the Interior West United States is strongly influenced by topographic factors that, in part, control moisture availability through their effect on insolation, precipitation capture, and retention. Through an empirical approach, we use unique, plot-level data from the Forest Inventory and Analysis Program (n = 13,437) over eight ecoregions within eight Interior West states to characterize the distribution of the 12 most abundant tree species with respect to the effects of elevation, slope aspect, and slope steepness. Across species, elevation, and aspect, most forested plots occurred on gentle slopes and the …

Large Language Models As Qualitative Instruments: A Review Of Ai For Qualitative Research, Luis Miguel Dos Santos Jun 2026

Large Language Models As Qualitative Instruments: A Review Of Ai For Qualitative Research, Luis Miguel Dos Santos

The Qualitative Report

This review examines AI for Qualitative Research: A Hands-On Guide for Management Scholars (Quevedo & Kuri, 2026), an open-access Palgrave Pivot volume published by Palgrave Macmillan (Cham). The book examines the methodological inflection in management and social science research, particularly with the normalization of large language models (LLMs) in writing, teaching, and qualitative data analysis. Rather than treating AI as either a substitute for interpretation or a threat to interpretivism, the authors argue that LLMs are computational tools that can be employed and audited responsibly. This book review summarizes two important parts. Part One introduces AI, natural language processing …

Ai And Cataloging: What Do We Know, 4 Years In?, Emily Baldoni, Angela Yon

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

This poster will disentangle AI hype from AI reality by providing a systematic review and meta-analysis of the current empirical research on AI applications for cataloging. Since the introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022, AI has been proposed as a tool for increasing efficiency and freeing up librarians' time across all areas of librarianship, especially in the area of cataloging and metadata. There is often a gap, however, between current AI realities and the requirements of highly structured library metadata. Surveys show that many catalogers are already using Large Language Model (LLM) tools, with human intervention, to assist in tasks …

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Citizen science approaches are increasingly used to support data generation and public engagement across the environmental sciences, yet their wider pedagogical value within physical geography remains underexamined. To explore the value of mapping-based citizen science for both glaciological investigation and geographical learning, we developed GlacierMap, an interactive online tool enabling participants to map glacier change in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca over a 34-year period. GlacierMap was designed not only to assess the feasibility and value of crowd-sourced glacier mapping, but also as a vehicle to support experiential learning of the trends in, and impacts of, tropical mountain glacier retreat. Participants mapped …

Unveiling Unwritten Curricula: Enhancing Junior Faculty Development In Academic Emergency Medicine, Abagayle Bierowski, Casey Morrone, Erin Hoag, Ridhima Ghei, Michael Pasirstein, Julie Blaszczak, Dimitrios Papanagnou

Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Papers

INTRODUCTION: The transition from resident to junior faculty in academic emergency medicine (EM) may be shaped not only by formal training and institutional policies but also by the "unwritten curriculum," a set of norms and expectations embedded in institutional culture. However, the unwritten curriculum and its potential to impact junior faculty development remains largely unexplored. Little is known about how junior faculty perceive, experience, and navigate these informal expectations, or the formal and informal structures that influence this process. In this study we aimed to explore junior faculty members' experiences with the unwritten curriculum in academic EM, with a focus …

Letter To The Editor: Hemodynamic Role In Hepatic Encephalopathy Pathogenesis Following Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Placement, John Halphen, Yash S Dayal, Cameron Laurie, Mohadese Ahmadzade, David Wynne, Mohammad Ghasemi-Rad

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a common complication following transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement and is thought to result from reduced hepatic detoxification of neurotoxins. However, Zhuang et al in the World Journal of Radiology demonstrate that this understanding may be incomplete through exploration of the pathophysiology from a hemodynamic perspective. They found significant changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) and spontaneous brain activity following TIPS. Initially, CBF increased in specific areas within the first month, followed by a return to baseline at three months. These CBF changes coincided with increased spontaneous brain activity that persisted in some areas, suggesting …

Ethical Pedagogy In Marketing: Faculty Perspectives On Generative Artificial Intelligence Using Thematic Analysis, Maria Naureen Shahid, Oscar Robayo-Pinzon, Sandra Rojas-Berrio, Sana Irfan

The Qualitative Report

Because of the potential misuse of ChatGPT for coursework and student learning, marketing educators must investigate how to protect students' honesty and integrity. Additionally, it is crucial to examine whether marketing professors are modifying their pedagogy to promote learner autonomy rather than dependence on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This study addresses two central questions: How do marketing educators preserve students' honesty and integrity amidst the potential misuse of ChatGPT for coursework and learning? How are marketing professors adjusting their pedagogy to ensure learner autonomy rather than dependency on AI tools like ChatGPT? To explore these issues, semi-structured interviews were conducted with …

Review Of: Documents Of Brotherly Love, Dutch Mennonite Aid To Swiss Anabaptists, Volumes I, Ii, Iii—James M. Lowry, Sheldon Raber

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

This set of three volumes of documents adds greatly to the accessibility of important historical documents by and about the Anabaptists in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Many original documents and correspondence from this time period were preserved, primarily in Amsterdam. However, since the original documents were written in German, Swiss, and Dutch, they were not easily consulted by English-speaking historians and specifically by American Mennonite historians. And even though most of the documents were inventoried in the late nineteenth century, they were only selectively consulted by historians of the twentieth century. Since this reviewer is not schooled in languages, …

Historian David “Titus” Luthy (1941–2025): A Principled Convert, The Personification Of Academia Among The Amish, Cory Anderson

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

David Richard Luthy—Amish historian, bibliographer, editor, and the founding steward of the Heritage Historical Library at Aylmer, Ontario—died on Oct 21, 2025, in North Carolina, where he had gone two weeks earlier to be near his children after spending a last summer at his home in Aylmer. He was 84. Worthy of a New York Times obituary, his passing drew little notice beyond Amish and Plain Anabaptist circles, yet few figures of the past half-century did more to shape how the Old Order Amish remember themselves or what primary materials scholars have been able to access. By any reckoning, he …

Workplace Environmental Exposures And Related Health Conditions Among Amish & Mennonite Women In Ohio, Lora Wyss, Ratchneewan Ross, Rosanna Hess

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

Background: Although it is known that some plain (Amish and conservative Mennonite) women work in furniture finishing shops, commercial greenhouses, and on family farms, little is known about their exposure to harmful conditions and substances in those work environments and the incidence of any related illnesses. Aim: To assess the relationship between the exposure to potentially harmful environmental conditions and general health conditions, work-related illnesses, and work-related injuries, comparing adult plain women with adult women of the general population. Methods: Data in this exploratory, concurrent, mixed methods study were collected using a 24-item survey and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and correlational …

The Sociologists And The Anthropologists: Intellectual Imaginations Of Mennonite Settlements In The Paraguayan Chaco, Samuel Boucher Jun 2026

The Sociologists And The Anthropologists: Intellectual Imaginations Of Mennonite Settlements In The Paraguayan Chaco, Samuel Boucher

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

The debates over Indigenous rights and missionary intervention in Paraguay’s Chaco were shaped not only by international declarations and local conditions but by the sociologists and anthropologists who interpreted—and contested—them. North American sociologists such as J. Winfield Fretz, Jacob Loewen, and Calvin Redekop studied the Mennonite colonies as agents of modern development, weighing the achievements and shortcomings of their mission efforts. The Paraguayan anthropologist Miguel Chase-Sardi cast those same colonists as foreign capitalists exploiting their Indigenous neighbors, drawing international scrutiny through his contribution to the 1971 Barbados Declaration and its charge of ethnocide. The ensuing clash with administrators such as …

Using Amish Scribes’ Newspaper Letters To Portray The New Wilmington, Pa, Amish Settlement, Kristin Park Jun 2026

Using Amish Scribes’ Newspaper Letters To Portray The New Wilmington, Pa, Amish Settlement, Kristin Park

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

In studying distinctive ethnoreligious communities, it is preferable to listen to and analyze the voices of members themselves. This paper interprets the professed values, activities, and priorities of an understudied, hybrid Andy Weaver / Old Order Amish settlement using Amish scribes’ letters to two Amish and one non-Amish newspaper. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the newspaper letters discovered dominant themes of emotional expression, illness and accidents, visits, weather, and work and compared their prevalence across the newspapers. Amish newspapers were more emotionally expressive and highlighted members’ illness and injury while the non-Amish newspaper primarily focused on visiting, weather, and …
