Importance: Late radiation-associated dysphagia (RAD) after head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment is challenging and commonly treatment refractory, with fibrosis stiffening connective tissues and compressing peripheral nerve tracts, contributing to diminished strength and possibly denervation of swallowing muscles. Manual therapy (MT), while common for cancer-related pain and other indications, remains largely unstudied for fibrosis-related late RAD.
Objective: To determine the feasibility and safety of MT, estimate effect size and durability of MT for associated improvements in cervical range of motion (CROM), and examine functional outcomes after MT in survivors of HNC with fibrosis-related late RAD.
Design, setting, and participants: This …

Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) is a complex tumor caused by KS-associated herpesvirus 8 (KSHV). Histological analysis reveals a mixture of "spindle cells", vascular-like spaces, extravasated erythrocytes, and immune cells. In order to elucidate the infected and uninfected cell types in KS tumors, we examined twenty-five skin and blood samples from sixteen subjects by single cell RNA sequence analyses. Two populations of KSHV-infected cells were identified, one of which represented a CD34-negative proliferative fraction of endothelial cells, and the second representing CD34-positive cells expressing endothelial genes found in a variety of cell types including high endothelial venules, fenestrated capillaries, and endothelial tip …

Since the introduction of the American College of Radiology (ACR) MRI safety guidelines in 2002, the indications for use of MRI in clinical care and research have continued to expand. Similarly, MRI technologies have evolved, with multiple field strengths now available for human imaging. While several publications have updated the ACR recommendations since the first guidelines, a single source in a structured format was lacking. Accordingly, the ACR Committee on MR Safety recently updated the online ACR Manual on MR Safety that compiles ACR recommendations for safe use of MRI equipment in humans into a single document. This review describes …

The extent of the application of the Individual and Family Self-Management Theory (IFSMT) in research has yet to be determined. The purpose of this analysis was to review the use of the IFSMT in published research and evaluate posited constructs and relationships. Dimensions and categories of the IFSMT and the interrelationships were generally supported in the 77 articles reviewed. A majority focused on self-management of chronic conditions in the adult population. More research on the strength, direction, and interaction of relationships is needed. Defining and exploring social constructs, including race, ethnicity, and gender, should be prioritized in future IFSMT research.

Corporate Evolution, Omari Scott Simmons
Corporate Evolution, Omari Scott Simmons
Cardozo Law Review
Political entrepreneurs have declared war on environmental, social, and governance policies ("ESG"), going so far as to attempt to criminalize ESG-influenced investing. They seek a return to some real or imagined past. They amplify and elevate their efforts into mainstream public discourse. They pursue extraordinary goals and tactics to disrupt and even dismantle institutional structures, norms, and established processes. The contemporary anti-ESG backlash is not simply a battle over corporate purpose and the dueling perspectives of shareholder primacy versus stakeholderism or disputes concerning sustainable investment and operational strategies. It reflects aggressive political entrepreneurship and the tension between competing narratives: stasis, …

The Problem Of Biased Precedents, Ronen Avraham, Issachar Rosen-Zvi
Cardozo Law Review
This Article addresses the problem ofbiased precedents, wherein sophisticated repeat players, often corporate and state entities armed with superior resources and a vested interest in shaping the law, manipulate legal proceedings to systematically establish self-advantageous precedents. Specifically, by strategically choosing to litigate cases they anticipate will lead to favorable precedents and settling those expected to produce unfavorable outcomes, these players systematically bias the law over time to their advantage, at the expense of one-shot parties and society at large. The problem of biased precedents challenges the commonly held view about the efficiency and fairness of the legal system and raises …

Equity And Clarity: The Impact Of Tyler V. Hennepin County On Property Taxation And Homeowners’ Rights, Analy Feigel
Cardozo Law Review
This Note explores the implications ofthe U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Tyler v. Hennepin County, which significantly impacts property taxation and foreclosure laws. The Court ruled that property owners are entitled to surplus proceeds following a tax foreclosure, setting a new precedent by deeming it unconstitutional for governments to retain surplus proceeds without just compensation. Tyler clarified property rights under the Fifth Amendment, affirming that owners have a constitutional right to the surplus value of their foreclosed properties, even if local statutes do not explicitly allow it.
Further, this Note also addresses unresolved issues following Tyler's ruling, including how the …

A New Multiple Imputation Method For High-Dimensional Neuroimaging Data, Tong Lu, Peter Kochunov, Chixiang Chen, Hsin-Hsiung Huang, L Elliot Hong, Shuo Chen
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Missing data are a prevalent challenge in neuroimaging, with significant implications for downstream statistical analysis. Neglecting this issue can introduce bias and lead to erroneous inferential conclusions, making it crucial to employ appropriate statistical methods for handling missing data. Although the multiple imputation is a widely used technique, its application in neuroimaging is severely hindered by the high dimensionality of neuroimaging data, and the substantial computational demands. To tackle the critical computational challenges, we propose a novel approach, High dimensional Multiple Imputation (HIMA), based on Bayesian models specifically designed for large-scale neuroimaging datasets. HIMA introduces a new computational strategy to …

Model-Predictive Optimal Control Of Ferrofluidic Microrobots In Three-Dimensional Space, E. Olga Skowronek, Luke Silas Baker, Reza Ahmed, Hamid Marvi
Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications
Ferrofluid microrobots have emerged as promising tools for minimally invasive medical procedures. Their unique properties to navigate complex fluids and reach otherwise inaccessible regions of the human body have enabled new applications in targeted drug delivery, tissue engineering, and diagnostics. This paper proposes a model-predictive controller for the external magnetic manipulation of ferrofluid microrobots in three dimensions (3D). The internal optimization routine of the controller determines appropriate changes in the applied electromagnetic field to minimize the deviation between the actual and desired trajectories of the microrobot. A linear system governing locomotion is derived and used as the equality constraints of …
Financial Harm In Gambling Help-Seeking: A Scoping Review, Elizabeth Halle Smith
Financial Harm In Gambling Help-Seeking: A Scoping Review, Elizabeth Halle Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Gambling literature often references financial harm, an objective experience following gambling-related financial losses. Financial harm alongside emotional distress has been implicated in help-seeking for problem gambling, indicating the importance of subjective reactions to financial harm and its perceived severity. It is unclear whether the gambling literature measures both objective and subjective experiences of financial harm. To explore the implications of financial harm on gambling help-seeking behaviors, this scoping review explored how the gambling literature measures financial harm among gambling help-seeking populations. In 84 articles, financial harm was defined through objective metrics such as debt and bankruptcy. Although financial harms were …
Beauty In Mortality: Leonor Fini's Hermetically Influenced Ancient Egyptian Sphinx, Kerista Fiske
Beauty In Mortality: Leonor Fini's Hermetically Influenced Ancient Egyptian Sphinx, Kerista Fiske
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This thesis explores how Surrealist artist Leonor Fini employs a version of the ancient Egyptian Sphinx in her paintings Little Hermit Sphinx (1948) and Petit Sphinx Gardien (1943-44). Specifically, Fini reframes the Sphinx’s role as a contemplative guardian presiding over the liminal threshold between life and death. Fini merges the images inspired by the ancient Egyptian Sphinx’s recumbent pose with the Hellenistic Sphinx’s feminine attributes while invoking Hermetic and psychological concepts of transformation and duality. Through analyzing Fini’s Sphinx motif alongside her Surrealist contemporaries—such as Jane Graverol, Frida Kahlo, Paul Delvaux, and Dorothea Tanning—and comparing to those of previous artistic …

What Is Sports Wagering? A Scoping Review, Ji Wan Wan Son
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Sports wagering has been defined as wagering on the outcome of an athletic competition, specifically a single-game sporting event. In recent years, this definition has proven insufficient to account for the different technological opportunities to engage in sports wagering. The goal of this scoping review was to examine the terms, definitions, and specific gambling activities that comprise sports wagering and to review operationalizations of sports wagering measurement. A systematic search was used to extract (e.g., betting, gambling), definitions, gambling modes (online vs. in-person), encompassed activities, and measurement methods. Seventy-seven articles reveal similarities and discrepancies in the definitions and operations of …

Counting Everyone: Using Demographic Data To Build Representative Repositories, April K. Anderson-Zorn
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
In 2021, the Rayfield Archives migrated from Archon to ArchivesSpace. During the transfer, we asked “Does our repository reflect all of our campus communities?” While we do collect administration-focused records, we also collect affinity and service group records and faculty papers. We ran reports to identify percentages of demographics represented in our collections with little success. Anderson-Zorn began work on creating a controlled vocabulary to apply processed and accessioned materials to understand trends in collecting and identify areas that need improvement.
