Emotional Intelligence And Effective Leadership In Times Of Global Crisis: A Mixed-Methods Study Of Managers At Multilateral Development Institutions During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Bukola Ogunyemi
Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to identify and describe the perceptions of managers at multilateral development institutions regarding the impact of emotional intelligence methods in their approaches to leading during the COVID-19 pandemic. A secondary purpose was to examine how the experiences of leading during the COVID-19 crisis influenced managers' understanding, development, and application of emotional intelligence skills as part of their leadership practices.
Methodology: This study employed a convergent parallel mixed-methods design to examine the role of emotional intelligence in crisis leadership at multilateral development institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using Goleman's emotional intelligence framework as …

A Semi-Mechanistic Model Of Immune Tolerance Induction To Support Preclinical Development Of A Human Monoclonal Antibody, Paridhi Gupta
A Semi-Mechanistic Model Of Immune Tolerance Induction To Support Preclinical Development Of A Human Monoclonal Antibody, Paridhi Gupta
Alternative Theses and Dissertations (AETDs)
Administration of human monoclonal antibodies (mAb) in preclinical species often triggers an immunogenic response, leading to the formation of anti-drug antibodies (ADA). ADA can bind to the mAb and reduce their systemic exposure by enhancing immune-complex mediated clearance. Thus, ADA complicates the accurate assessment of preclinical pharmacokinetics and toxicology studies. To mitigate this effect, we explored short-term immunosuppressive therapy (methotrexate or combination of tacrolimus and sirolimus) to induce prolonged immune tolerance towards a human mAb, erenumab, in rats. The results demonstrated that tacrolimus/sirolimus but not the methotrexate regimens prevented ADA formation in all treated animals relative to the non-immunocompromised control …

Sustainable Pavement Design, Evan Antonius, Matthew Graham
Sustainable Pavement Design, Evan Antonius, Matthew Graham
General Engineering
This thesis proposes a transformative vision for highway infrastructure, prioritizing sustainability, resilience, and innovation. Concentrating on California's Interstate 80, a vital freight and commuter corridor that is vulnerable to climate variability and structural issues, this research introduces an innovative pavement design. This design seeks to address the system's ongoing challenges while aligning with California's ambitious climate and infrastructure objectives.
Utilizing cutting-edge materials and design techniques, this solution incorporates a comprehensive three-layer Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) system designed for durability and high performance. The top layer features an Open-Graded Friction Course (OGFC), enhanced with 3.5% Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) to improve permeability, mitigate …

Connecting Through Activities: How Social Engagement Impacts Isolated Older Adults, Lekisha Wilde
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Executive Summary
Problem Description: Loneliness and social isolation are associated with higher rates of depression and contribute to a variety of mental and physical conditions. In socially isolated older adults, managing depression and chronic medical conditions can lead to negative outcomes that include poor quality of life, increased disability and morbidity leading to higher healthcare costs, and elevated mortality rates.
Setting: Project took place in a community behavioral health clinic in the Pacific Northwest.
Rationale: This project is guided by the Iowa Model. The model was tailored to assist in identifying the problem, gathering and evaluating relevant evidence from the …

A Scoping Review Protocol: Hispanic Individuals’ Influences For Pursuing Nursing Education Prior To Nursing School Admission, Katherine R. Luecke, Orcid Id : 0009-0003-8013-821x
College of Nursing Reviews and Protocols
In the United States, a major contributing factor to health outcome disparities in minoritized populations is a lack of diversity in the healthcare setting. Nursing has intentionally sought to recruit individuals from minority backgrounds into the workforce to negate these disparities and have greater community representation. The purpose of this scoping review was to systematically explore literature on the influences of Hispanic individuals when pursuing nursing education prior to nursing school admission.
A scoping review methodology was utilized following the nine-step process described by the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis guideline utilizing …

Diplomacy Syllabi
This class is an introduction to research methods for diplomacy and international relations. Students are introduced to essential skills for researching and writing a thesis paper. The essence of the scientific method is efficiently testing and evaluating an empirically falsifiable research hypothesis. This course provides a basic introduction to research statistics, tools that are widely used to analyze quantitative data. literature reviews are another essential component of research methods. Students will develop annotated bibliographies relevant to their research topics. The existing social science and policy literatures offer insights into how research professionals make methodological choices to develop theoretical arguments. Through …

Parameter Estimation Of Binary Black Hole Coalescence Using Lstm Neural Networks, Lane Scheel
Parameter Estimation Of Binary Black Hole Coalescence Using Lstm Neural Networks, Lane Scheel
Undergraduate Honors Papers
The Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (aLIGO) made its first detection of gravitational waves in 2015. Since then, the rate of event detection has only increased, with a detection being made every 2-3 days during the current observing run, O4. This rapid influx of data has the potential to create bottle-necks in data analysis efforts, and can delay the scientific progress which require those efforts. Traditional gravitational wave data analysis techniques, such as matched filtering, require extremely large template banks of synthetic gravitational waveforms and can often fail to provide meaningful limits on system parameters. Not only is this …

Günther Anders’S “Promethean Shame”: Technological Ressentiment And Surveillance, Babette Babich
Günther Anders’S “Promethean Shame”: Technological Ressentiment And Surveillance, Babette Babich
Articles and Chapters in Academic Book Collections
Günther Anders’s philosophy of technology, particularly his complex notion of ‘Promethean shame,’ or technological ressentiment, may illuminate questions of surveillance and AI ethics. As a critical philosopher of technology, radically so, his emphasis on the negative or downside of technology distinguishes Anders’s thinking on technology from future-focused and mainstream technological messianism. Key to Anders’s notion of ‘Promethean shame’ was his observation that we adapt ourselves to our technology, not the other way around. Provocatively, Anders argued that while the populace in the past—referring to Nazi Germany—required the techniques of mass psychology and mass gatherings for the purposes of manipulation and …

Number Talks To Promote Discourse In The Algebra 1 Classroom: A Number Talk Curriculum Development For A Unit On Quadratic Expressions, Lindsay C. Borger
Masters Theses/Capstone Projects
This project sought to develop a curriculum of Number Talks for use at the secondary level, specifically in an Algebra 1 class as a supplement to a unit on quadratic expressions. The project begins with a look at existing research on constructivism and social constructionism as well as the reforms in mathematics education informed by those learning theories. It then looks at calls for more discourse in the mathematics classroom as a part of these reform efforts, and the part Number Talks play in fostering discourse and mathematical thinking for students. The Number Talk curriculum includes a guide for implementing …
