The Water Insecurity Experiences (WISE) Scales have been validated to comparably measure water insecurity globally. The scales consist of 12 items that can be administered in approximately 3 minutes. There is interest in developing more rapid versions of the tools for when time is limited. One alternative is to use a subset of 4 items, which has been validated, but has some drawbacks. Here we investigate another alternative: dichotomous (yes/no) response options instead of the original four levels of frequency-based (polytomous) responses. We used nationally representative data from 39 countries to simulate dichotomized responses by collapsing the four levels of …

Produce Prescription Policy Project For The Securement Of A Grant To Address Food Insecurity For Low-Income Type Ii Diabetic Patients, Isabel D. Garcia-Gallegos

Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract

PURPOSE

This policy-focused Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement (QI) project aims to secure grant funding through the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) to implement a produce prescription program at a community clinic in Texas. The program targets low-income adults (18-65 years) with type II diabetes who experience food insecurity and are affected by Medicaid non-expansion.

BACKGROUND

Texas’ decision not to expand Medicaid has exacerbated food insecurity among low-income residents, particularly those managing type II diabetes. This decision creates a healthcare policy gap that this project aims to address with a food-as-medicine program.

METHODOLOGY

Using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) …

Effectiveness Of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Stretching For Improving Hamstring Flexibility In Athletes: A Critically Appraised Topic, Natalie Turcotte

All Student Scholarship

Introduction/Clinical Scenario

During a clinical rotation as a graduate athletic training student, I worked with collegiate-level football athletes. A common issue frequently observed was hamstring tightness, which often presented with discomfort during activity, limited range of motion, or reduced performance in activities like sprinting, cutting, or kicking. Traditional static and dynamic stretching was part of the daily warm-up routines, but many athletes continued to demonstrate limited hamstring flexibility. In a therapeutic exercise course, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching, specifically the contract-relax technique, was introduced as a method to improve flexibility by targeting both the contractile and reflexive components of muscle …

In Competitive Athletes, Does Adding Psychological Rest Compared To Regular Training Reduce Burnout: A Critically Appraised Topic, Amy A. Umutoni

All Student Scholarship

Burnout among competitive athletes is a multifaceted syndrome characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion, a diminished sense of accomplishment, and sport devaluation. 1 The rigorous demands of training and competition can lead to chronic stress, potentially culminating in burnout. While physical rest is a well-established component of athletic recovery, the role of psychological rest in mitigating burnout is gaining attention. 2 Psychological rest encompasses mental breaks and activities that promote cognitive relaxation, potentially aiding in recovery and performance. Emerging evidence also suggests that structured psychological interventions can enhance emotional well-being and resilience among athletes, particularly those coping with injuries. In …

From Tragedy To Triumph: Maine’S Lgbtq+ History (1984-2005), Aidan King '25

Maine’s LGBTQ+ history may be very rich, but true acceptance was an uphill battle. For decades, queer residents of Maine fought for equal rights in the state. The Stonewall riots in 1969 in New York City were an early sign that LGBTQ+ citizens were not going to continue to let their identities be suppressed, but as the years progressed, so too did the confidence of queer people to be open about their identities, including in Maine. In 1973, at the University of Maine, the Wilde-Stein Club was established, to the deep chagrin of homophobic fundamentalist preachers whose protests against the …

A Democracy In Question: Policy Failures, Institutional Weakness, And Bangladesh’S Evolving Global Standing, Omme Habiba May 2025

A Democracy In Question: Policy Failures, Institutional Weakness, And Bangladesh’S Evolving Global Standing, Omme Habiba

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Democracy in Bangladesh has fluctuated since its independence, shaped by governance failures, institutional weaknesses, and socioeconomic factors. While the country has experienced economic growth, challenges such as electoral irregularities, judicial inefficiency, and corruption continue to undermine democratic stability. Despite these issues, Bangladesh's global democracy rankings present mixed trends, raising questions about the relationship between economic development, inequality, and governance. This study examines how policy failures and institutional weaknesses influence Bangladesh’s democracy rankings and explores the role of income inequality, using Frederick Solt’s SWIID dataset. A mixed-methods approach integrates quantitative analysis of democracy indices, economic indicators, and regression models with qualitative …

Ascl2 Positive Tumor Cells Modulate The Response Of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer To Mapk-Targeting Therapy, Oscar Eduardo Villarreal May 2025

Ascl2 Positive Tumor Cells Modulate The Response Of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer To Mapk-Targeting Therapy, Oscar Eduardo Villarreal

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths with nearly a quarter of patients presenting with metastatic disease at the time of their diagnosis. Therapeutic management of metastatic CRC continues to be a major challenge due to therapy resistance and disease heterogeneity. Due to its central role in tumorigenesis, CRC is commonly treated with MAPK pathway inhibitors (MAPKi). However, clinical trials repeatedly demonstrates that durability of benefit is short-lived in many patients. While genomic mechanisms of acquired resistance have been described, they explain a minority of patients, and further research is needed to determine the underlying …

The Evolution Of India’S ‘Counter-Terrorism (Ct)’ Policy In The 21st Century, Mule Rohit Ashok

Journal of Terrorism Studies

The changing nature of modern terrorism has proved a major threat to the global security architecture. The 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States of America, the world's ‘Police State’, is apparent. Consequently, the international community launched collective fights at different levels to deal with it. However, the nation-state at the individual level also designed a ‘Counter-Terror (CT)’ policy mechanism within the scope of the foreign policy paradigm to safeguard national security. India, since its independence, has consistently faced security challenges from terrorism from its neighbours, and has followed the same suit. The major CT policy was grounded in the …
