Movement Ecology And Trophic Dynamics In The Northern Gulf Of Mexico: Implications For Fisheries Management, Calvin Chee
Master's Theses
The northern Gulf of Mexico (nGOM) is a diverse and productive region for living marine resources. The region supports lucrative commercial and recreational fisheries ranging from low-trophic-level species, such as penaeid shrimps and forage fishes, to high-trophic-level predators (e.g. Yellowfin Tuna). This thesis contributes to the region’s ecological knowledge, with the primary aim of enhancing management efforts and providing direct management advice to two important fisheries. In Chapter 1, we develop a traditional per-recruit model for Southern Flounder, as well as a spatiotemporally integrated per-recruit model that incorporates the spatial distribution of fishing effort and the stock’s movement ecology. Fish …
Interconnections Among Self-Awareness Constructs In Schizotypy: The Importance Of Interoceptive Sensibility, Kendall Beals
Interconnections Among Self-Awareness Constructs In Schizotypy: The Importance Of Interoceptive Sensibility, Kendall Beals
Master's Theses
Interoception involves the sensing, interpreting, and integrating of signals from within the body and mind. Interoception is a central concept to our awareness of bodily sensations and thus can be classified as one form of self-awareness. Differences in other forms of self-awareness, such as alexithymia, cognitive insight, and introspective accuracy, have been observed between those with high and low schizotypy. Given the conceptual similarity in these constructs, understanding inter-relationships across measures of self-awareness will serve to advance our understanding of the concept and its various facets for people with high schizotypy. This study examined the relationships between interoceptive sensibility and …

The project …
My Two Bodies, Zahra Babaei
My Two Bodies, Zahra Babaei
Theses
My Two Bodies examines the intersection of visibility, memory, and gendered absence through photographic and material strategies. Engaging with censorship and instability of the image, it investigates how realities are shaped by what is seen, obscured, or erased. Referencing the gendered absence of women in Iranian visual culture, the project considers how censorship intensifies rather than eliminates visibility. Drawing from Jacques Derrida’s concept of hauntology, absence is approached not as a void but as an active presence that disrupts the surface of the image. Through processes such as collage, projection, and fabric-based image making, photographs are treated as tactile, mutable …

A Remote Sensing-Based Evaluation Of Road And Electricity Infrastructure Expansion Effects On Development In Sub-Saharan Africa, Tunmise Ibukun Raji
Theses
Sub-Saharan African countries consistently rank low on human development indicators despite decades of international aid and domestic investment. To address these challenges, governments across the region are allocating substantial portions of their national budgets to infrastructure expansion, viewing it as a catalyst for accelerated socio-economic development. However, given severely constrained budgets, these nations often face trade-offs between infrastructure development and investment in other important sectors such as healthcare and education. This highlights the need for infrastructure investments to deliver their anticipated benefits. This dissertation examines the relationship between infrastructure development and socio-economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus …

The proposed model, dubbed Business Education 4.0, treats content as building blocks that can be used to build personally tailored courses. The model guides students through creating their modularized custom courses, delivers course materials, analyzes student performance, offers students continuous support, and gathers feedback. …
Understanding Attitudes And Burnout Among Juvenile Justice System Professionals, Madison Liechti
Understanding Attitudes And Burnout Among Juvenile Justice System Professionals, Madison Liechti
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Juvenile offending is a consistent issue in the United States. On any given day in the United States, up to 50,000 juveniles are in custody (Leitch,2019). Many juvenile offenders have faced a wide range of adversity in their lives leading up to delinquency and detention. Many therapies have been put into place to help prevent juveniles from reoffending, and while these therapies and treatments can be helpful, we still see consistent rates of recidivism (Narvey et al., 2024).
This study will aim to look inward towards the professionals who work with juveniles to try to discover what attitudes they have …

The Missing Void: Lack Of Pockets In Womenswear And Its Effect On Daily Life, Clare Bolon
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Pockets give power to people who possess them. Yet, an estimated half of the U.S. population —women— frequently wear garments lacking useful pockets. Why? Womenswear is molded by beauty standards. This study brings an anthropological perspective on gender inequality in the U.S. by examining modern clothing and the differences in pocket access by gender. 127 participants were recruited for a mixed methods survey, most from a medium-sized university in the Mountain West region. Survey questions explored the attitudes and experiences of people who wear women’s clothing regarding pockets (or the lack thereof) and its impact on their daily lives. Open-ended …

The Role Of Self Esteem Upon The Recovery Of Eating Disordered Patients, Samanta Flores Velazquez
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Eating disorders such as anorexia-nervosa, bulimia-nervosa, and binge-eating disorders are detrimental to overall health and well-being. The demands of beauty ideals and attitudes impact young adults negatively as they attempt to meet societal beauty standards. The need for approval, fitting in with the community, and confidence drive the behaviors of people in negative ways. In recent years, the modernization of social media has contributed to dieting cultures, the thin ideal, harmful weight-loss practices, and the cycle to use the body as a means to control or repent. External factors affect the risk of eating disorders which contribute to the challenge …

Determining The Causation Of Microphthalmia In Cannabidiol Treated Zebrafish Embryos, Nicolas Zuniga
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid derived from the plant cannabis sativa. Multiple studies on CBD show that it is used as an anti-psychotic, an anti-inflammatory for pain relief, and an antinausea agent. The Agriculture Improvement Act (2018) played a role in removing hemp and hemp derivatives like CBD from being categorized as a Schedule I substance, which led to recreational usage in America. In 2003, there was an increase in cannabinoid consumption during pregnancy to alleviate morning sickness along with distress. Prior studies on CBD-treated zebrafish embryos have demonstrated phenotypes of microphthalmia, scoliosis, fewer neuronal connections, and less motor neuron …

The Influence Of Mental Illness Stigma On Juror Decision-Making, Alexa N. Triden
Undergraduate Honors Theses
The current study examined the influence of a defendant’s mental illness diagnostic labels on mock jurors’ decision-making in a hypothetical criminal case. Due to the present stigmatization of mental illness in the United States, it was hypothesized that if a criminal defendant of a violent crime were given a mental illness diagnosis, specific labels would significantly impact jurors’ perceptions of guilt. Specifically, it was predicted that defendants diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) or borderline personality disorder (BPD) would have more guilty verdicts in comparison to a control. In contrast, those diagnosed with schizophrenia would receive fewer guilty verdicts compared …

The penstemons are ornamental annual flowering plants native to the Intermountain West and Rocky Mountains and commonly used for urban landscaping. Elite commercial penstemons are generally susceptible to abiotic stresses, including drought, root rot, cold, and high salinity. Firecracker penstemon (Penstemon eatonii), however, is much more tolerant to these stresses than most elite cultivars. Importantly, firecracker penstemon has been reported to hybridize with many other penstemons and therefore provides the opportunity to develop more tolerant elite cultivars through strategic crossing. To facilitate the study and utilization of firecracker penstemon, we sequenced and annotated the genome of a P. …
