Analyzing Crime Patterns Through Artificial Intelligence, Rashid Khalid Mohamed Abdalla Alhammadi
Analyzing Crime Patterns Through Artificial Intelligence, Rashid Khalid Mohamed Abdalla Alhammadi
Theses
This paper examines how crime patterns affect predictive policing in Denver, Colorado. Modern crimes like cybercrime and identity theft have challenged traditional crime research methods, necessitating data-driven ones. In this context, the study examines how machine learning and AI can identify and forecast crime trends across neighborhoods, timeframes, and other aspects. The research sought to understand crime's dynamics and socioeconomic effects. The study collected data using a mixed-method approach based on questions about crime kinds, rates, and sociodemographic characteristics. A large chunk of the data came from public databases and targeted neighborhood surveys. Regression analysis, decision trees, and neural network …

This research examines the impact of financially assisted homeownership for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity home recipients as measured in life satisfaction. We develop and assess a model with homeownership as the independent variable and financial well-being, current health, and psychological well-being as mediating variables that impact life satisfaction. We utilize data from 184 Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity homeowners and applicants to test the model. The findings show that homeownership through Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is related to life satisfaction. That relationship is partially mediated by financial well-being, current health, and psychological well-being, where the mediating variables amplify …
Shelf Space Strategy In Alcoholic Beverage Retail: Analyzing The Impact Of Shelf Facings On Sales Performance And Consumer Behavior, Jesse Core
Dissertations
The alcoholic beverage industry faces intense competition and regulatory constraints, making strategic shelf space management critical. This study investigates the impact of shelf facings on sales performance in the alcoholic beverage sector, focusing on how brand size moderates this relationship.
The study collected data from a regional supermarket chain in Arkansas using a quantitative pretest-posttest control group design. It found that increasing shelf facings for smaller brands significantly enhances overall modular sales, with small brand sales persisting even after reverting to their original facings. Moreover, the analysis reveals that brand size significantly moderates the impact of shelf facings on brand …

Use Of Pulsed Electric Fields And Hydrogen Peroxide For Pre And Postharvest Strategies To Reduce Microbial Loads On Fresh Produce, Zachary Rosenzweig
Use Of Pulsed Electric Fields And Hydrogen Peroxide For Pre And Postharvest Strategies To Reduce Microbial Loads On Fresh Produce, Zachary Rosenzweig
Theses and Dissertations
Several issues exist within the agricultural industry surrounding failure to prevent pathogen transfer to plants preharvest and failure to decontaminate foods postharvest. Fresh produce, like leafy greens, pose a large threat to public safety if contaminated because they are minimally processed and often eaten raw. Numerous outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce in recent decades, with irrigation water emerging as a potential source. These outbreaks have severe economic repercussions and can contribute to millions of hospitalizations and deaths each year, worldwide. This thesis focuses on the usage of pulsed electric fields (PEF) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a means …

Physical activity (PA) rates among older adults are low. We examined and compared the PA needs, preferences, and practices of 118 rural- and urban-residing older adults through focus groups and surveys. The sample was diverse (White = 42.4%, Black = 37.3%), mostly female, food-secure, and not meeting PA recommendations (38.1%). PA rates were lower for rural-residing older adults (p < 0.05). PA motivators were health benefits and socialization, while barriers were cost, pain, low motivation, and health limitations. Preferred PA programs were described as age-appropriate, expert-led, and group-based. These findings provide insight regarding what to consider when planning PA programming for community-residing older adults.

Accurately documenting where and when firearms are discharged is a critical first step in gun violence prevention. Many cities rely on police calls for service as their primary source for this information. Recent studies find, however, that citizens underreport gunshots. This has led some communities to invest in gunshot detection technology (GDT) as an alternative data source. GDT remains an expensive and often controversial solution with limited evidence for long-term benefits. This underscores the need for additional research on third-party reporting of gunshots. The current study, conducted in Portland Oregon, surveyed 1,240 residents in 23 neighborhoods with above-average firearm discharges. …
The Importance Of Community Rehabilitation: Evaluating Effectiveness Of Tennessee Interventions, Sarah Grace Knight
The Importance Of Community Rehabilitation: Evaluating Effectiveness Of Tennessee Interventions, Sarah Grace Knight
Masters Theses
Rehabilitation for offenders has been a topic of discussion for decades. While the system expresses that rehabilitation is the best method of practice, statistics show that these individuals still struggle to reenter society successfully. This study addresses environmental factors and barriers that can make the reentry process difficult and increase chances of recidivism. Additionally, this article takes a look at the state of Tennessee in particular, considering its high crime and recidivism rates. While many states have programs in place, it is apparent that the government needs to focus on creating more stable financial budgets for both community and prison …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or drones, are increasingly used in search and rescue (SAR) missions, with pilots transitioning from manual control of single drones to more collaborative tasks orchestrating semi-autonomous fleets. Designing user interfaces to support UAV pilots effectively is crucial to improving the success of search missions. We developed two versions of a multi-drone SAR system prototype to simulate SAR missions and evaluated them with professional UAV SAR pilots in Sweden. Both versions showed the flight paths of the UAVs, yet in one version, a heatmap was overlayed to provide information from a lost person model. We evaluated situational …
