Exploring African American Officers’ Lived Experiences Of Racial Microaggressions In A Metropolitan Police Department, Kareem Mc Kenna Feb 2026

Exploring African American Officers’ Lived Experiences Of Racial Microaggressions In A Metropolitan Police Department, Kareem Mc Kenna

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

African American men in law enforcement encounter subtle racial microaggressions that contribute to emotional distress, identity conflict, and burnout. Although researchers have examined microaggressions, few studies have centered on African American men within a large metropolitan police department or explored how they interpret these experiences across tenure ranges. This qualitative phenomenological study explored how African American men with at least 2 years of service in frontline or first-line supervisory roles in a Southern California metropolitan police department experienced, interpreted, and coped with workplace racial microaggressions over the past five years. Guided by critical race theory, intersectionality, and Sue et al.’s …

Mscl-X: Meta Supervised Contrastive Learning With Gaussian Prototypes For Robust Few-Shot Open-Set Modulation Classification, Emmanuel Mawuli Agbator Feb 2026

Mscl-X: Meta Supervised Contrastive Learning With Gaussian Prototypes For Robust Few-Shot Open-Set Modulation Classification, Emmanuel Mawuli Agbator

Theses and Dissertations

Automatic modulation recognition has found its way into the core modern-day wireless communication systems whereby intelligent receivers estimate signal formats without any prior coordination with the transmitters. Challenging situations arise in any working radio frequency environment for the conventional modulation recognition systems due to insufficient labeled data, rapidly fluctuating channel conditions, and appearance of plenty other unseen modulation types. Taken together, these challenges raise questions concerning the ability to institute learning frameworks that could perform well on few-shot and open-set conditions. Hence the thesis attempts to address the same by proposing two complementary learning-based frameworks for few-shot open-set modulation recognition …

Using Fire Investigators' Narratives To Explore Serial Firesetting Behaviors, Alisha Jones-Creel Feb 2026

Using Fire Investigators' Narratives To Explore Serial Firesetting Behaviors, Alisha Jones-Creel

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This qualitative narrative inquiry examined how fire investigators share tacit knowledge related to threat assessment and risk management in cases of serial firesetting. Data were derived from eight semi-structured interviews with fire investigators from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas who had investigated firesetting incidents within the past five years. Narrative analysis was used to identify cross-case patterns in how investigators recognize offender characteristics, assess contextual risk factors, and detect early warning signs across incidents. Analysis identified three themes addressing how lived experience informs peer understanding of offender behavior, risk indicators, and warning signs, and three themes addressing how narrative experience guides …

Effective Strategies For Small And Mid-Sized Enterprises To Leverage Resources And Sustain Operations, Priscilla Neri Rebibis Barbero Feb 2026

Effective Strategies For Small And Mid-Sized Enterprises To Leverage Resources And Sustain Operations, Priscilla Neri Rebibis Barbero

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ineffective strategies for leveraging resources can lead to early business closures. Small-to medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners who struggle to acquire sufficient resources for their operations may experience diminished profits and business instability as a result. Grounded in resource-based view (RBV) theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry research project was to identify and explore effective strategies used by SME owners to leverage resources and sustain business operations beyond 5 years. The participants were 10 SME owners who had implemented strategies for sustainable business operations. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and a review of relevant public documents. Using thematic …

Air Pollution Assessment Around Al-Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant, Basrah Governorate Under Dry Climatic Conditions, Mariam S. Nasser, Monim H. Al-Jiboori, Jinan S. Al-Hassany

Baghdad Science Journal

The paper addresses the potential air pollution levels resulting from the combustion of natural gas in the Rumaila combined cycle power plant in Basrah city. The study aims to evaluate the concentrations of pollutants (carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter) at distances of 100, 500, and 1000 meters from the plant using a Gaussian dispersion model. This includes calculating the emission rates of pollutants from the stacks and estimating atmospheric stability based on data from the Iraqi Meteorological Authority. The study also determines the Turner-Pasquill stability classes for August 2023 and the wind speed and direction at …

What’S History Without Tradition?, Richard C. Osborne Iii Feb 2026

What’S History Without Tradition?, Richard C. Osborne Iii

Catholic University Law Review

For many decades, the Establishment Clause had been a thorn in the Supreme Court’s side. Indeed, no other constitutional provision in recent memory has provided the Court with more trouble than the Establishment Clause. In its efforts to decide whether government conduct violated the Establishment Clause, the Court had applied no less than six tests. And as if that were not bad enough, many of these tests co-existed with one another, leaving government actors left to guess at their own peril which one controlled their fate.

But that officially changed when the Supreme Court decided Kennedy v. Bremerton School District …

The Flaws Of Bruen And The Principle Of The Second Amendment, Cameron Collins Feb 2026

The Flaws Of Bruen And The Principle Of The Second Amendment, Cameron Collins

Catholic University Law Review

With a six Justice majority, the Court is more conservative than it has been in ninety years. No time has been wasted as the conservative Justices take aim at legal precedents left over from a more progressive era on the Court. There being no prior test established by the highest Court to review legal challenges on Second Amendment grounds, the Court took the opportunity to write new precedent in New York State Rifle Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen. Rather than stick with the means-end scrutiny framework that had been developing in the circuit courts, the Supreme Court established a …

Journey To A Heart Safe Community, Mary Mccormack, Carole Zarcone, Kendra Hoepper, Dorothy Veron

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

The sudden loss of life is a traumatic event inflicting devastating and lasting impacts on families and communities. It has been estimated that more than 350,000 episodes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occur annually in the United States (Virani et al., 2021); however, being that there is no nationwide mandatory reporting system, this number may be a gross underrepresentation of reality. The majority of OHCA occur residential homes and in the community setting. Survival rates are heavily dependent upon provision of immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation with neurologic damage occurring within 5 minutes (Brooks et al., 2022).

Unfortunately, the …
