The Influence Of Virtual Anchor Live Streaming On Chinese Consumer Responses, Pik Shan Chan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In the context of China's e-commerce live-streaming industry, this study explores the influence of consumer ethnocentrism (CET) and cosmopolitanism (COS) on perceptions of virtual anchors, using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to examine the effects on perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and perceived enjoyment (PE), which ultimately shape consumer behavioral responses (CBR). A quantitative survey was conducted with 204 participants who had prior experience watching live streams on Chinese e-commerce platforms. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), the study found that CET positively impacts PU (β=0.766), PEOU (β=0.899), and PE (β=0.511), while COS positively influences PU (β=0.593), PEOU …

Framing Femininity: Opportunities For Gender Non-Conformity At U.S. Women's Colleges At The Turn Of The Twentieth Century, Natté Fortier

Undergraduate Research Awards

Cross-dressing and same-sex attractions were common occurrences at historically women’s colleges (HWCs) in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when the majority of these institutions came into their own. When examining typical characteristics of HWC campus cultures in their formative years, one might be surprised to see misalignment between common and accepted behaviors by college women versus outside social expectations for women of their class and time period. Thus we might ask: what unique opportunities existed in the early era of HWCs that permitted students to transcend elite patriarchal expectations for gender and femininity? This paper aims to explore …

Artlessness: A Disturbing Ideal In Fanny Burney's Evelina, Autumn Wille Jan 2024

Artlessness: A Disturbing Ideal In Fanny Burney's Evelina, Autumn Wille

Before the Enlightenment, the psychological symptoms which are now associated with autism were rationalized through a lens of religion and folklore. Post-Enlightenment, the term “autism” and its classification as a neurodivergence were first recorded midway through the 20th century (Zeldovich). Between these two explanations is a two-hundred-year gap in which faith-based rationalizations were shunned in the name of science, yet science had not developed a label for autism—nor was that label perhaps yet necessary, given the relative simplicity of the world compared to today. What, then, was the social appraisal of autistic-coded symptoms during those two hundred years, and …

Exploring African American Female Students' Choice Of Stem Major At Rust College, Shatara Hall Jan 2024

Exploring African American Female Students' Choice Of Stem Major At Rust College, Shatara Hall

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In comparison to the rest of the United States population, African American women are undeniably inadequately represented in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). As one of the oldest historically black colleges in Mississippi, Rust College has the social responsibility to increase the presence and contributions of minorities in STEM. Since the enrollment of African American females is greater than that of African American males at Rust College, the college has the fortuity to assist in increasing the diversity in STEM for both race and gender. This DIP utilizes Intersectionality Theory as the conceptual foundation to explore …

Finding Our Way: Teaching Legislative Advocacy Clinics, Anita Weinberg, Elizabeth B. Cooper

Faculty Publications & Other Works

Legislative advocacy clinics are excellent vehicles for teaching lawyering skills, for achieving broad-based social change, and for imparting to law students the important roles they can play in preserving and strengthening our democracy. Notwithstanding their growth over the last 15 years, there has been little scholarly reflection about the pedagogy of teaching such clinics. This Article helps to fill this gap. We provide a roadmap through the challenges that come with teaching legislative advocacy clinics-some inherent to working within legislative bodies and some that accompany working with organizational clients and advocacy partners-identifying ways that clinicians can ensure an excellent learning …

Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) requires governments to protect children from all forms of violence, including violence in the home. At the same time, Articles 3 and 5 obligate states to respect the rights and duties of parents to care for and make decisions on behalf of their children. Although the United States is not a signatory to the CRC, federal law also seeks to strike a balance between protecting children from harm by family members and recognizing the constitutional rights of parents to direct the care, control, and upbringing of …

The Future Of Health Care Conscience Law Post-Dobbs, Nadia N. Sawicki

Faculty Publications & Other Works

The Supreme Court's rejection of a constitutional right to choose abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization has prompted legislatures to make significant changes to state laws. Some states have criminalized abortion in most circumstances, while others have granted patients and health care providers broader rights to choose and access abortion. Another, perhaps less-recognized, avenue for legislative change is by amending existing state conscience laws. This Article describes the avenues state legislatures might take in using conscience laws to impact abortion access in accordance with the state's policy preferences.

Peer Support To Enhance Safe Alcohol Use In University Students: A Quality Improvement Project, Kerri Reynolds

DNP Scholarly Projects

BACKGROUND: College is a period of transition to adulthood where many students experiment with alcohol consumption. Peer educators can bring access to evidence-based alcohol consumption education through student-centric strategies. This quality improvement project aimed to implement an evidence-based training program for college peer educators followed by the delivery of campus alcohol education in a six week period. Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) are an essential tool for managing diabetes in the outpatient setting, helping individuals achieve glucose goals. However, CGMs are not currently FDA-approved for use in the hospital setting. Despite this limitation, many individuals continue using their personal CGM during hospitalization or begin using them prior to discharge if the care team believes the technology will support glucose management during and after leaving the hospital.

This project aimed to evaluate whether individuals using personal CGMs during hospitalization experienced less hypoglycemia and whether reviewing CGM data could improve provider confidence in insulin dosing. While initiating CGM use during …
