Agri-Food Supply Chain Resilience Strategies For Preparing, Responding, Recovering, And Adapting In Relation To Unexpected Crisis: A Cross-Country Comparative Analysis From The Covid-19 Pandemic, Guoqing Zhao, Mar Vazquez-Noguerol, Shaofeng Liu, J. Carlos Prado-Prado
Plymouth Business School
Researchers and practitioners insist on equipping supply chains with the adaptive capability to return to a more desirable state after being disrupted. Various resilience capabilities have been emphasized in the literature; however, limited research has linked them to resilience phases and cultural value orientations. Moreover, preparedness and adaption phases have hardly been studied. To address these gaps, we adopted middle-range theory to investigate agri-food supply chain (AFSC) resilience to the COVID-19 crisis in a cross-country setting. Data were collected from interviews with AFSC practitioners from China and Spain, followed by thematic and comparative analyses. The results indicate that frequently discussed …

Game Addiction, The Impostor Phenomenon, And Social Adjustment Among Young Adults In India, Jessy Fenn, Jain P Jegi, H Deva Nandan
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
During the COVID-19 pandemic, online gaming grew rapidly, becoming a social lifeline for many youths confined to their homes while turning others into gaming addicts. Online gaming not only led to connections with other youths but also opened the gates to fantasy worlds filled with adventures and missions that could be accomplished with quick thinking and quick fingers. Success there could lead to further addiction and inversely affect gamers’ real-world social life. Could the gap between their online success and their social adjustment in the real world manifest itself as feelings of being an impostor? The aim of this research …

An Analysis Of Fathers’ And Toddlers’ Behaviors During Shared Book Reading, Caitlin Marie Kelly
Theses and Dissertations
Shared book reading interactions between parents and their children have been studied to draw correlations to a child’s vocabulary growth, language development, mathematical scores, and socioemotional skills. However, there is a lack of research regarding fathers’ and toddlers’ engagement and behaviors during shared book reading interactions. The current study investigated and analyzed father and toddler interactions during shared book reading. The data was collected from a larger longitudinal study. Seven father-child dyads participated in the study (Mage = 35 years; range = 30-43 years). The children included four males and two females, and up to two videos were collected for …
Educating For Capability And Preparing For Practice: Integrating Theory And Skills, Sally Hanks, Tom Gale, Harry Carter, Robert Johnson
Educating For Capability And Preparing For Practice: Integrating Theory And Skills, Sally Hanks, Tom Gale, Harry Carter, Robert Johnson
Peninsula Medical School
Capability is the ability to perform clinical skills in ever-changing real world contexts, adapting to challenges and integrating technical and non-technical skills and competencies, for example, cannulating an uncooperative patient at night. Going beyond teaching competency and ensuring capability is imperative, as recommended by the national outcomes for medical graduates. A course on intravenous cannulation was developed with e-learning modules and high-fidelity complex simulation scenarios, aiming to promote capability in practice. The course delivered an intravenous cannulation e-learning package between two practical simulations to 10 final-year medical students. The hybrid simulation design consisted of an actor with a bespoke cannulation …

Background Chronic hip pain is a debilitating condition that severely reduces one's quality of life. Prior studies uncovered a link between hip pathologies and pain catastrophizing, anxiety, and depression. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether hip preservation surgery in patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) and acetabular dysplasia (AD) improves functional outcomes and pain catastrophizing. Methods Patients with FAIS and AD were requested to complete a hip questionnaire both preoperatively and postoperatively at a single academic center (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, USA). Pain catastrophizing was evaluated using the pain catastrophizing scale, and pain …

Due to the influence of different cultural contexts, the process of foreign terms entering the Chinese context is often accompanied by “variation”. The semantic evolution of “inspiration” in the translation process serves as a typical example. The Japanese transliteration of romaji (innsubiresyo) follows the translation of ancient Greek-Latin languages. While Liang Qichao's Chinese transliteration of the word implies a potential contradiction between “availability to all” and “unique genius”, it allows for a broad scope of reinterpretation within the Chinese context. The translation as Linggan gradually establishes a connection and transformation with categories such as “sensation” in traditional Chinese culture, while …

The Impact Of Individual Techno-Characteristics On Information Privacy Concerns In The Diffusion Of Mobile Contact Tracing, Jiesen Lin, Dapeng Liu, Lemuria Carter
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
In the wake of the global health crisis, mobile contact tracing applications have emerged as important tools in managing disease spread. However, their effectiveness heavily relies on mass adoption, significantly influenced by the public's information privacy concerns. To date, systematic examination of how these privacy concerns relate to the innovation adopter categories in mobile contact tracing remains sparse. Furthermore, the influence of individual techno-characteristics on these concerns is to be explored. This research seeks to fill these gaps. Drawing on the diffusion of innovation theory, we examine the impact of the key techno-characteristics—adopter category, propensity for identification misrepresentation, and exposure …

Exploring Information Privacy Concerns During The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Juxtaposition Of Three Models, Dapeng Liu, Lemuria Carter, Jiesen Lin
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Government agencies across the globe utilize mobile applications to interact with constituents. In response to the global pandemic, several nations have employed contact tracing services to manage the spread of COVID-19. Extent literature includes various models that explore information privacy. Several researchers have highlighted the need to compare the effectiveness of diverse information privacy models. To fill this gap, we explore the impact of information privacy concerns on citizens’ willingness to download a federal contact tracing app. In particular, we compare three types of prevalent information privacy concerns: global information privacy concerns (GIPC), concern for information privacy (CFIP), and internet …

Prioritizing Social Emotional Learning With Interactive Read Alouds, Lindsay Stoetzel, Kelly Vigants
Michigan Reading Journal
The need for social emotional learning (SEL) in schools has never been higher. Yet, teachers need strategic support and training in order to integrate SEL into academic instruction. The literacy classroom provides a perfect venue for SEL integration with strong continuity and overlap between SEL dimensions and literacy standards. In this article, the authors explore how one high leverage literacy practice, the interactive read aloud, can be strategically adapted to intentionally target those SEL skills. The authors provide multiple examples and resources to guide teacher teams to reflect upon and prepare their own interactive read alouds to foster SEL goals …

A Dakota Cultural Intervention’S Influence On Native Students’ Sense Of Belonging: A Cbpr Case Study, Heather J. Peters, Teresa R. Peterson, The Dakota Wicoḣaƞ Community
Psychology Publications
This community-based participatory research case study demonstrates how Dakota Wicoḣaƞ utilized Indigenous and feminist epistemologies to create, implement, and evaluate a cultural intervention, the Mni Sota Makoce: Dakota Homelands Curriculum, to increase Native 6th- and 10th-grade social studies students’ peoplehood sense of belonging (Tachine et al., 2017). Findings demonstrate Native students liked the curriculum and reported an increase in support and a decrease in invalidation of their sense of belonging. While the curriculum provided a source of racial-ethnic socialization, some European American students criticized the curriculum, which likely negatively impacted 6th-grade students psychological sense of school membership (Goodenow, 1993). Results …

Sacred Nutrition: Asserting Indigenous Sovereignty And Rights Of Women And Nature To Ensure The Right To Food In The United States, Mariana Chilton, Phd, Mph
University of Miami International and Comparative Law Review
This Paper is a provocation to move beyond a standard human rights and right to food framework to encourage scholars, activists, and political leaders to engage in full throttle societal transformation. Ending hunger in the United States demands nothing less. The modern human rights framework is enshrined in the modern nation-state system that is rooted in the transatlantic slave trade, colonization, and genocide.1 Three primary ways in which these roots took hold were through land theft, rape, and starvation. Hence, to assert that integrating the right to food and freedom from hunger into nation-state constitutions or into national plans to …

Life In A Fishbowl: Space And Environmental Enrichment Affect Behaviour Of Betta Splendens, Ronald G. Oldfield, Emily K. Murphy
Faculty Scholarship
The public has expressed growing concern for the well-being of fishes, including popular pet species such as the Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens). In captivity, male Bettas behave aggressively, often causing injuries and death if housed together. As a result, they are typically isolated in small fishbowls, which has been widely criticised as cruel. To investigate the impact of keeping Bettas in these conditions, we recorded the behaviour of individual males in containers of different sizes that were either bare or enriched with gravel, large rocks, and live plants. When male Bettas were housed individually in small bowls (0.5 L) …

Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams In Middle School Classrooms With English Language Learners: Effects And Perceptions, Emily Joy Warburton
Theses and Dissertations
English language learners (ELL) and Latinx students are at an increased risk of difficulties that can lead to problem behaviors at school. Effective classroom management strategies may help these students remain on task despite these challenges, but teachers often feel they lack training in classroom management strategies. Class-wide Function-related Intervention Teams in Middle School (CW-FIT MS) is a research-based classroom management intervention that has helped teachers increase their students' on-task behavior through group contingency, reward, and praise. We investigated the efficacy of CW-FIT MS in classrooms with high proportions of Latinx ELL students. One middle school English teacher and her …
What Factors Affect Employment Decisions Of Employees And Job Seekers Of Different Modalities: Remote, Hybrid, Or In-Person?, Diana White
JWU Dissertations & Theses
What factors affect employees’ and job seekers’ employment decisions? Are these factors different for remote, hybrid, or in-person workers? There are many challenges in recruiting and retaining employees, especially in the times when the labor force demand has far exceeded the supply. The primary framework of the study was grounded on Herzberg’s two-factor theory with internal motivation factors and external hygiene factors as values employees considered as different workplace traits such as work-related conditions (Jehanzeb and Mohanty, 2018), leadership behaviors (Wells and Peachey, 2011; Vanderpyl, 2012), internal Human Resources practices (Gardner et al., 2011), and organization reputation (Baer et al., …

Team Presentation Theory I: The Five Formats, Daniel Usera, Alex Fuller
SAGE Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive
Team presentations are prevalent in education and business, yet there is a notable scarcity of scholarly research and discussion on effective delivery practices. The authors bridge this gap by introducing a theoretical foundation for team presentations, enabling further exploration. They first establish prerequisites that a team must address regarding the speech outline, member roles, and transition techniques. They then categorize five distinct team presentation formats and explore each one’s strategic advantages, disadvantages, and application contexts. Lastly, the authors offer strategic implications for practitioners and proposals for future academic inquiries into the realm of team presentation theory.
Foreign-Born Black Males: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Their Persistence In Higher Education, Eliezer Marcellus
Foreign-Born Black Males: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Their Persistence In Higher Education, Eliezer Marcellus
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to explore the academic and social integration experiences of foreign-born Black male students who persist at a four-year research institution. Research has shown that foreign-born Black males do not self-identify, and, as a result, their experiences in higher education have been grouped in with the persistent experiences of native-born Black males (Nesbett, 2002; Williams, 2005). This phenomenological study examines the lived experience of foreign-born Black males in higher education. Ten face-to-face interviews were conducted in order to describe the essence of this phenomenon. The findings from this study revealed five themes that explained the …
