The Phd In Graduate Medical Education: Leveraging Doctoral Training For Educational Innovation, Rémy Roe
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
The field of Graduate Medical Education (GME) increasingly employs PhD-trained professionals in roles including simulation directors, education researchers, program coordinators, and assessment specialists. These professionals bring valuable expertise in educational theory, research methodology, and interdisciplinary perspectives that complement physician leadership. However, role ambiguity, hierarchical positioning, and underutilization of scholarly expertise remain common challenges. This article examines the growing population of PhD-trained professionals in GME, identifies their unique contributions, and proposes strategies for better integration. Recommendations include clarifying faculty appointments, recognizing doctoral credentials appropriately, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise in strategic planning, providing protected time for scholarship, and building professional community. As GME …

Assessment And Intervention For Health Behavior Change In Primary Care Across The Lifespan: A Guide For Residents In Primary Care Specialties, Stacy A. Ogbeide, Alexis Ramos, Bridget Murphy, Angel Ogbeide
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
More than 45% of Americans have at least 1 chronic disease, with chronic disease also being a leading cause of death in the United States. In primary care settings, about 75% of visits are for management of multiple chronic diseases. Due to the increasing medical complexity of patients who present to primary care, these numbers make it more challenging for Primary Care Clinicians (PCCs) to manage these conditions alone and point to the need for innovative solutions to chronic disease care. One evidence-based innovation is team-based care to improve the treatment of these conditions. Clinicians such as clinical pharmacists, registered …

Impact Of Pre-Existing Psychiatric Conditions On Trauma Outcomes: A National Analysis, Kelly Mckenney, Marie Ugo, Sindhura Kompella, Clara Alvarez, Ilko Luque
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
Understanding the impact of psychiatric pre-existing conditions (PsyPECs) on trauma outcomes is crucial, as trauma is the leading cause of mortality for Americans aged 1-45. Although previous regional studies have shown higher mortality rates and longer hospital length of stay (H-LOS) for injured patients with PsyPECs, this has not been studied at the national level. The purpose of this study is to identify the PsyPECs associated with mechanism of injury and other outcomes in adult patients admitted for trauma in the United States’ trauma centers.
Methods
Data were extracted from the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB). There were 5301 …

Time For A New Whole-Person Care Pathway For Chest Pain Admissions, Dana Kajan, Sabbir Mirza, Alexander M. Ruiz, Anthony Degennaro, Mohamad S. Saad
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
Emergency department (ED) visits for chest pain are common and costly, and ED workup often shows no clear cardiac etiology in low-risk patients. Emerging evidence suggests that social determinants of health (SDOH) such as loneliness, social isolation, and food insecurity contribute to cardiovascular outcomes and chest pain presentations.
Methods
We interviewed 114 patients (>18 years) presenting with chest pain and a thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) score less than 4 at our community teaching hospital ED. Structured questionnaires assessed the SDOH triad of loneliness, social isolation, and food insecurity. Dependent variables included systolic blood pressure (SBP) at admission, …

Organizational Psychology Theories In Graduate Medical Education: A Narrative Review, Mohamad S. Saad, Naim El-Aswad, Zeina Ghossoub, Relly Nadler, Serena Wasilewski
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Physicians and educators tend to be more versed in recognizing disease patterns and medical problems than in identifying malfunctioning patterns in the psychological aspects of their mentees and work environments. Just as hypertension and diabetes are the common soil for many acute medical problems, agency problems and organizational silos can lead to many acute managerial problems in graduate medical education (GME) settings.
Data show that most workers are lonely at work, which leads to negative emotions and undermines performance. Organizational problems seem to stem from an individual’s inability to align one’s motivation with the organization’s shared value. This can cause …

Aspirational Mirrors: A Conceptual Model Of Alumni-Led Near-Peer Outreach For Precollege Engagement In Ocean Engineering, Habibi Palippui, Juswan Sade
Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)
Precollege students in Indonesia, especially in rural and coastal regions, often lack exposure to engineering disciplines due to social, geographic, and informational barriers. This essay proposes a conceptual model of alumni-led near-peer outreach as an affective and culturally grounded mechanism to engage high school students in ocean engineering. Drawing from theories of social similarity, possible selves, and engineering identity, the model conceptualizes alumni as “aspirational mirrors” who influence students not merely through information but also through identification. The model outlines four primary mechanisms—social connection, narrative engagement, aspirational mirroring, and early identity activation—and also accounts for contextual variables such as school …
On- And Off-Field Impacts Of Foreign Players On Peruvian Liga 1 Football Teams, Juan Victor Aranibar, Claudio Rocha
On- And Off-Field Impacts Of Foreign Players On Peruvian Liga 1 Football Teams, Juan Victor Aranibar, Claudio Rocha
Global Sport Business Journal
Despite the growing globalisation of football, little research has examined how foreign players create competitive advantage in non-traditional leagues. Using the Resource-Based View (RBV), this study explores the on- and off-field impact of foreign players in Peruvian Liga 1 clubs. Semi-structured interviews with 12 sporting directors, commercial managers, scouts, and coaches were analysed thematically, revealing five themes: physical characteristics, leadership and mental strength, cultural barriers, competitive salaries, and commercial blindness. Findings suggest that although foreign players provide valuable physical and psychological attributes, these are rarely sufficient to create sustained competitive advantage. More notably, clubs fail to capitalize on foreign players' …

The Heteronomy Of Fernando Pessoa, Filomena Iooss
The Heteronomy Of Fernando Pessoa, Filomena Iooss
SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism
In this article, we do not claim to be inventing the subject matter of Fernando Pessoa’s heteronyms, but rather we authentically collect a collection of information and ideas by feminist critics at various times. Given the huge bibliography accumulated about Pessoa and his creative work, this contribution will necessarily be very reductive. Therefore, our aim is to present a comprehensive and authentic view of such a topic. We will allow ourselves to wonder about Pessoa’s personality, his multiple masks and psychological and philosophical issues he raises, such as the self, the other, consciousness and isolation. His writings present accurate analysis …

Between Knowledge And Disguise The Atlantic Desert With Spanish Eyes, Adel Jahil
SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism
Travel literature is about the description of a country, where the traveller takes notes about his impressions and observations, according to his vision and psychological formation. However, this description mixes reality and imagination, narration and scientific, historical, geographic, social and psychological facts. Through such description, the traveller provides an image about the other in his text, as it is portrayed in the reviews of the 1886 Spanish expedition, which was designated to act for a scientific task in the Atlantic Sahara under the auspices of General Julio Cervera Baviera. Consequently, through its own viewpoint, the expedition provided positive and negative …
Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous
Unified Dynamic User State Vector With Cross-State Conflict Resolution For Recommendation Ranking, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Systems and methods are disclosed for recommendation ranking using a unified, explicitly decomposed user psychological state vector. A coordination layer loads per-user state values including mood, trust, cognitive mode, topic-indexed satiation, and topic-indexed curiosity, constructs explicit cross-state interaction features (including trust×curiosity, mood×satiation, mode×satiation, and trust×mood), and provides these to a ranking model to compute base scores for candidate items. A conflict resolution engine detects contradictory ranking actions implied by different state dimensions and applies a dominance hierarchy with cascading hard and soft constraints, including mood-based content suppression and trust-gated exploration as hard constraints and satiation discounting as a soft constraint. …
Reactance-Aware Adaptive Personalization Intensity With Behavioral Detection And Dynamic Modulation In Recommendation Systems, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
A recommendation system detects psychological reactance using explicit, implicit, and contextual behavioral signals and computes a per-user reactance score with temporal decay. A personalization intensity is determined per user and per content domain based on a domain-specific base intensity, the reactance score, and a context multiplier, subject to a minimum floor. The system modulates ranking in accordance with the intensity by adjusting feature-group weights and/or masking tiers of features. The system also generates an explanation whose framing corresponds to the computed intensity and truthfully reflects factors used for selection, including personal behavioral framing at higher intensities, neutral interest-based framing at …

A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson
A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Working with Fredric Jameson’s influential discussions of utopia and world literature, the essay suggests that the prospect of utopia is frightening and also possibly boring insofar as it threatens to drain away the already waning possibility of experience in a postmodern, globalized world. In this world, resentment of the present seems to go hand in hand with a nostalgia for a fictitious past, underscoring the difficulty of conceptualizing new social, cultural, and economic arrangements. Viewing world literature as a possible source of a new utopian thought, a utopia unlimited to its contemporary dystopian guises, the essay retraces Jameson’s pronouncements on …
Against Pleonexia: Auerbach, World Literature, And The End Of History, Simon During
Against Pleonexia: Auerbach, World Literature, And The End Of History, Simon During
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Erich Auerbach’s essay on world literature, written in the early postwar period, has become central to our understanding of the field. This essay contextualizes Auerbach on world literature by approaching it through his larger project, which it thinks about in relation to scholars rarely considered in this context. These scholars are the French literary historians and critics Hippolyte Taine and Remy de Gourmont, and the German historical sociologist Alexander Rüstow. To place Auerbach at an intersection of these very different figures turns out to be illuminating. It both enlarges our sense of him and helps us better understand why he …

Small Nations, Big Debates: Empowering The Slovenes As A Subject Of World History In The Critical 1930s, Marko Juvan
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
The article looks at how Slovene intellectuals and writers in the 1930s attempted to redefine the role of a small nation within the world-system in the face of global economic crisis, authoritarianism, imperialism, and the threat of fascist expansion. Three central interventions are examined in detail: firstly, Josip Vidmar’s culturalist defense of Slovenia as a nation defined by its intellectual and artistic achievements, which is contrasted with Edvard Kardelj’s Marxist reinterpretation of the Slovene national question as part of a broader anti-imperialist struggle; secondly, Anton Ocvirk’s peripheral model of comparative literary history, which emphasizes the creative contribution of small literatures …
The Proletarian Moment In World Literature, Anna Björk Einarsdóttir
The Proletarian Moment In World Literature, Anna Björk Einarsdóttir
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
During the interwar period (1918–1939), an international literary movement emerged in relation to internationalist and socialist politics and political struggles. Writers around the world saw themselves as contributors to a new proletarian moment within the historical unfolding of world literature. This movement was international, and writers situated on the peripheries of both the capitalist core and the emerging socialist world looked toward revolutionary Russia and other centers of the socialist world. This paper focuses on three such authors, the American Richard Wright, the Argentinian Roberto Arlt, and the Icelander Halldór Laxness. During the interwar period, all three were involved in …

Artificial intelligence (AI)-supported assessment is increasingly used in education to automate scoring, provide feedback, predict learner performance, and support instructional decision-making. This systematic review synthesized evidence on the validity, fairness, and learning impact of AI-supported assessment across educational contexts. A systematic search of ERIC, Web of Science, Scopus, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Education Source identified peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2025. Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria and were synthesized narratively following PRISMA 2020 guidance. The findings indicate that AI-supported assessment shows promising validity evidence, particularly in automated writing assessment, short-answer scoring, and predictive learning analytics, with several studies reporting …
Historicising Nyerere’S Presidency In The Nyakyusa Mythical Narratives, Ignas Fedeo
Historicising Nyerere’S Presidency In The Nyakyusa Mythical Narratives, Ignas Fedeo
Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies
Julius K Nyerere, the founding President of Tanzania, held office from 1962 to 1985. Much has been written about Nyerere's presidency, with the literature generally falling into two categories: strong advocacy for his decisions, actions, and ideas, and pointed criticism against him. Using narrative and new historicism theories, this article examines the recreation of the history of Nyerere’s presidency in local narratives, specifically Nyakyusa myths. The myths were collected using the oral history interviews from Kyela and Busokelo districts in Tanzania. The Nyakyusa believe that Nyerere was endowed with immense mystical powers, some of which embedded in his stick and …

Collaboration In The Spread Of Missionary Christianity In Africa: The Case Of The Apostolic Church Of Nigeria, Caleb Abiodun Adeleye, Oluwasegun Peter Aluko
Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies
This article explores the significance of collaboration in the spread of missionary Christianity in Africa through a historical study of The Apostolic Church of Nigeria (TACN). It examines how the partnership between British missionaries and Nigerian leaders produced a hybrid mission model that combined Western ecclesiastical structure with African spirituality. Drawing on historical records, church documents, and existing scholarship, the article adopts a narrative–analytical method to trace how figures such as Pastors George Perfect, Idris J Vaughan and DO Odubanjo negotiated issues of theology, finance and cultural identity. The study finds that collaboration initially fostered institutional growth and doctrinal development …

What socioecological conditions nurture the ingenuity and collaborative interactions underlying transformative technological innovations? We compiled a dataset on more than 400 major technological inventions from 1690 to 1990 spanning seven categories (agriculture, armaments, information and communication, household, industry, medical, and transportation) and performed inductive macroecological analyses to address how attributes of inventors, teams, and their social and geographic environments contributed to the innovation of new technologies that have changed the way people live. The vast majority of inventions were attributed to single inventors of various ages. The frequency, size, and cultural diversity of teams increased in the 20th Century, as …

Discourse Representation Of Self And Other In The 2020 Trump-Biden Presidential Debates, Victor Babajide Ogunleye, Adesina B. Sunday
Journal of English and Applied Linguistics
Presidential aspirants in the United States engage in debates during campaigns as a medium of enlightening the electorate. Existing studies on the American presidential debates have largely focused on politeness, rhetoric, syntax, and gender, with little attention to the strategies employed to construct the self and opponent(s). Therefore, this research investigates the discourse representation in the presidential debates between Trump and Biden using van Dijk’s socio-cognitive model of critical discourse analysis. Ten excerpts were purposively selected for their relevance in illustrating representation strategies. The analysis revealed positive self-representation and negative other-representation. Positive self-representation featured the self as competent, honest, altruistic, …

Creative Constructions In Asian And World Englishes - And What They Teach Us, Edgar W. Schneider
Journal of English and Applied Linguistics
"Creative constructions" are defined as patterns which deviate slightly but noticeably from grammatical, fully licensed structures in English (and are therefore sometimes branded as "wrong"), inviting specific cognitive associations to make sense of them. It is argued that such structures offer a window into the nature of the cognitive manipulation of linguistic innovations and change. The concept is related to creativity in literature and lingua franca English, and it is surveyed theoretically by asking how established grammatical theories (like traditional grammar, structuralism or generativism) or more recent approaches to the nature of grammar (usage-based linguistics, construction grammar, and complex systems …

Combination Of Using Chatgpt And Quizlet To Learn Vocabulary: A Study Of Learners’ Perceptions, Uyên Tràn Như Lê, Huyen Diem Bich Bui
Journal of English and Applied Linguistics
Although vocabulary learning is essential for reading comprehension, many students encounter challenges in personalizing their learning due to limited access to supportive tools or techniques. The integration of digital learning platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) offers new possibilities for addressing this issue. The combination of Quizlet and ChatGPT 5.0 (free version) provides a promising solution for vocabulary learning. However, there remains limited research, especially in Vietnam, on how students perceive AI-assisted vocabulary learning. This study examines how 107 pre-intermediate-level non-majors at a university in Ho Chi Minh City perceive the combination of Chat GPT and Quizlet for vocabulary learning in …

Trauma-Informed Esl Ecology: Centering Teacher Well-Being, Equity, And Structural Responsibility In Adult Esl Classrooms, Ghenwa Nasreddine, Heejin Song
Journal of English and Applied Linguistics
Government-funded adult English as a second language (ESL) programs in Anglophone countries increasingly encounter students with histories of trauma, displacement, and structural adversity due to existing and emerging geopolitical conflicts and unsettling sociopolitical realities. These conditions shaping English language teaching (ELT) inevitably influence learners’ cognitive and emotional engagement in language learning, as well as their relationships with teachers and peers. Despite burgeoning literature on trauma-informed practice in ELT, significant gaps remain regarding teacher preparedness, professional development, and institutional support structures to enact trauma-informed pedagogies in linguistically and culturally diverse adult ESL classrooms. Drawing on a critical review of recent scholarship …
