Tiered Structured Intervention Program To Prevent Student Pushout In High School, Toshawnka T. Mahone

All Dissertations

High school dropouts remain a challenge in the United States Educational System, particularly among students impacted by chronic attendance issues, academic struggles and persistent behavioral issues. This Dissertation in Practice (DIP) examines the implementation of ELEVATE3, an intervention program designed to prevent student pushout by addressing distinct at-risk factors: attendance, behavior and academic retention. Framed by pushout theory and grounded in goal-setting and self-efficacy literature, this study investigates how targeted structured supports influence students' motivation, academic achievement, and self-regulation. This mixed-methods research used student academic records and staff interviews to determine the impact on a rural Title 1 high school. …

The Dark Side Of Great Lmx Relationships: Why Your Best Employees Might Be Burning Out, Ryan Toole Aug 2025

The Dark Side Of Great Lmx Relationships: Why Your Best Employees Might Be Burning Out, Ryan Toole

All Dissertations

While workplace relationships are widely considered beneficial for employee well-being, a paradox emerges when employees with the strongest leader relationships experience burnout despite receiving excellent support. This contradiction suggests that these very same relationships may create psychological pressure to reciprocate support and result in employee burnout. Drawing on Social Exchange Theory and Conservation of Resources theory, I examine whether felt obligation resulting from Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) relationships contributes to employee burnout across the full spectrum of LMX quality relationships. I argue that LMX quality creates felt obligation to reciprocate leader support. This obligation, in turn, depletes emotional resources and leads …

Bilevel Network Interdiction Models For Human Trafficking Disruption, Daniel Bruno Lopes Da Silva Aug 2025

Bilevel Network Interdiction Models For Human Trafficking Disruption, Daniel Bruno Lopes Da Silva

All Dissertations

In this dissertation, we study a series of bilevel network interdiction problems motivated by applications in human trafficking disruption. First, we consider a bilevel network interdiction problem where the follower aims to maximize the amount of flow from the source node to the sink node and the leader aims to minimize the number of arcs from a critical set that have positive flow on them in the solution obtained by the follower. This problem models the situation where an anti-trafficking agent wants to minimize the number of people affected by the trafficking operations whereas the trafficker wants to maximize trafficking …

User Perceptions On Health: Three Cases Of Senior-Friendly Cities, Soomin Kim Aug 2025

User Perceptions On Health: Three Cases Of Senior-Friendly Cities, Soomin Kim

All Dissertations

Senior issues have been rapidly rising in contemporary society since the Baby Boomer generation started retiring. Their change in socio-economic status is giving rise to several new social phenomena, one of which is senior isolation. For urban planners and designers, this new wave of senior isolation necessitates a fresh approach and reevaluation of formal urban environments.

This research proposes three questions around senior isolation. First, a) what aspects of the built environment contribute to senior isolation and loneliness in urban and suburban environments, and b) what are the effects of each on senior populations concerning the risk of isolation and …

From Code To Compliance: Regulating Daos In Canada: Legal Frameworks And Challenges, Gulnoza Abdurakhmonova

Canadian Journal of Law and Technology

This paper examines the regulatory challenges surrounding Decentralised Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) in Canada and argues that existing legal frameworks— primarily designed for traditional corporate entities— are inadequate for addressing the unique characteristics of DAOs. While securities regulators have taken steps to oversee aspects of DAO activity, a broader regulatory framework is needed to provide legal clarity, address governance and liability concerns, and foster responsible innovation. This study recommends a dual approach: (1) extending corporate law reforms to define the legal status and obligations of DAOs, and (2) developing a regulatory framework that balances investor protection with the flexibility needed for …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Occupational health and safety researchers and policymakers often rely on organisational theories and evidence to provide valuable information for effective policy making and understanding. Yet, most traditional and contemporary organisational theories are developed within a single nation, often in high-income countries. Therefore, cross-national validation is required for generalisable worldwide use. The current study focuses on an antecedent to workplace health and safety, that is, the psychosocial safety climate (PSC), and aims to investigate if PSC is an etic (i.e., universally applicable) or emic (i.e., nationally/context specific) theory. Across nations, we investigate the construct meaning of PSC by testing PSC measurement …

High Flying Adored: How Ceo Narcissism Influences Firms’ Responses To Above-Aspiration Performance With Risky Organizational Change, Korcan Kavusan, Daniel Mack, Matthew P. Mount, Gokhan Ertug

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Research Summary: Research on performance feedback presents conflicting views on how above-aspiration performance influences organizational change. Some studies argue that it constrains change due to a lack of organizational motivation, while others suggest that it enables change by expanding managerial discretion. Reconciling these perspectives, we suggest that managers’ narcissistic tendencies can fundamentally alter how a firm responds to above-aspiration performance. We theorize and find evidence that high-narcissism CEOs respond to above-aspiration performance with more acquisitions—attention-generating actions that align with their self-enhancement motives, while under similar conditions low-narcissism CEOs avoid acquisitions, due to their uncertainty and risk. Our findings highlight the …
