Multilevel Influence Of Sustainability Leaders In Business Systems, Alwen Jose Apid, Mendiola Teng-Calleja Nov 2025

Multilevel Influence Of Sustainability Leaders In Business Systems, Alwen Jose Apid, Mendiola Teng-Calleja

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

Existing studies that point to the various influences of sustainability leaders on individuals, organizations, and external stakeholders remain fragmented. Using Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, this study aimed for a deep examination of leaders’ experiences as they built layers of influence through their sustainability initiatives and efforts. The study employed a reflexive qualitative approach in gathering and analyzing data from semi-structured interviews with five sustainability managers working in listed fast-moving consumer goods companies. The results suggested evident patterns of sustainability-promoting actions among the leaders that reflect alignment with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Strategies toward effective leadership influence include grounding …

Contrapower Harassment And Stress Experienced By Online Psychology Instructors, Sarah D. Hull Nov 2025

Contrapower Harassment And Stress Experienced By Online Psychology Instructors, Sarah D. Hull

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Previous researchers have found that face to face bullying by students directed towards postsecondary education faculty may result in negative mental and emotional impacts. The virtual environment provides a unique opportunity for student-to-faculty bullying behaviors, known as cyberbullying, to occur. Researchers have not yet studied how psychology faculty in particular experience stress when cyberbullied by students. The purpose of this qualitative study, rooted in phenomenological design, was to improve the understanding of how psychology faculty who are cyberbullied by students experience stress. Contrapower harassment theory was used to ground these research questions and design. The research questions examined the experiences …

Threads Of Attachment: Exploring Relationship Development Among Marginalized Populations Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors, Eunique S. Powell Nov 2025

Threads Of Attachment: Exploring Relationship Development Among Marginalized Populations Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors, Eunique S. Powell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA), traumatic sexual violence within trusted relationships, continues to impact children in the United States and often leads to insecure attachments in adulthood. There was a gap in the literature concerning the experiences of adult survivors of CSA within marginalized communities, where such experiences are frequently ignored. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore how adult survivors of CSA from marginalized populations develop attachments. Bowlby argued that maintaining mental health in adulthood depends on forming healthy and secure relationships during childhood. Bowlby’s attachment theory served as the framework to understand how early attachment …

Brotherhood: Black Male Perception On The Impact Of Mentorship, Berinda Hollis-Sapp Nov 2025

Brotherhood: Black Male Perception On The Impact Of Mentorship, Berinda Hollis-Sapp

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

During the adolescent stage of development, identity is a foundational aspect of one’s development, and its absence leads to a negative outcome, characterized by role confusion. Positive interventions are necessary to develop a strong sense of self. The purpose of this generic qualitative project was to explore the perspectives of black males and the impact of mentorship on their identity during adolescence. The theoretical framework chosen for this study was Erikson’s identity versus role confusion, the fifth stage of his psychosocial development theory. Based on this concept, the research supported the idea that adolescent Black males should participate in culturally …

Medication Adherence Educational Module For Outpatient Nurses, Catherine Omidiwura Nov 2025

Medication Adherence Educational Module For Outpatient Nurses, Catherine Omidiwura

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Medication nonadherence remains a key deterrent to high-quality care in the outpatient environment, resulting in ineffective disease control, preventable hospitalization, and rising healthcare costs. Nearly half of patients with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental disorders, do not take medication as prescribed. Outpatient nurses, who are at the core of mandating compliance, are often not provided with much formalized education to effectively promote compliance. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addressed this knowledge gap through the development and implementation of an educational module to enhance nurses’ knowledge about measures for medication adherence. The practice question …

Mitigation Strategies For Burnout Prevention, Judith Nm Lamarre

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This doctoral project is a staff education initiative aimed at increasing staff knowledge on burnout mitigation strategies. The project describes the practice challenge and why staff practice must address it. Psychiatric burnout leads to emotional exhaustion, professional dissatisfaction, and patient safety concerns. The work aims to answer the practice-focused question and the purpose of the doctoral project, specifically asking: Will a structured educational session on evidence-based burnout mitigation strategies increase staff knowledge? Staff knowledge was measured using pre- and post-education surveys. The pre-survey results showed mean score of 60%, while the post-survey results showed a mean score of 80%, reflecting …

Parties, Race, And Political Violence: Evaluating Whether Attitudes Toward The January 6 Insurrection Vary Across Racial Groups, Sarah Perez, Natasha Altema Mcneely Nov 2025

Parties, Race, And Political Violence: Evaluating Whether Attitudes Toward The January 6 Insurrection Vary Across Racial Groups, Sarah Perez, Natasha Altema Mcneely

School of Political Science, Public Affairs, Legal and Security Studies Faculty Publications

The insurrection and its aftermath remain salient to contemporary American Politics. Existing scholarship has shown the insurrection was fueled by an effort to return Donald Trump to power while also protesting the decline of the non-Hispanic white population. Scholars also discuss the impact of continuous division across partisan and ideological lines. We are interested in exploring if these divisions are visible across attitudes of non-Hispanic white, Black, Hispanic, and Asian American/Pacific Islander respondents in a nationally representative survey. We explore the following research question. Does the impact of partisanship, ideology, and attitudes toward Trump’s responsibility affect the attitudes of respondents …

Advocate Nurses Collaborate For Stronger Legal Shields Against Workplace Violence, Susan Morby Msn, Rn, Nea-Bc, Sarah Gilmore Bsn, Rn

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference

Background/Introduction

Healthcare workers (HCW) face disproportionately high rates of workplace violence (WPV) and are five times more likely to be injured than other types of workers (Lim et al., 2022). HCWs account for 73% of all nonfatal workplace injuries in 2018 (OSHA, 2020). National studies show that 12% of nurses planning to leave the profession in the next 5 years cite WPV as the reason (Smiley et al., 2025). Despite implementation of security measures, WPV continues to escalate, contributing to burnout and workforce attrition (The Joint Commission, 2018).

Purpose or Objective

This initiative aimed to expand legal protections for all …

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference

Background: Falls during hospitalization increase the risk of physical harm, psychological stress, reduced mobility, and fear of falling, which in turn impact recovery. Falls also lead to longer hospital stays and readmissions, affecting performance metrics and reimbursement. Challenges include delayed response times and patients getting up without assistance.

Local Problem: On the Medical Surgical Floor at Atrium Health Union, there were 54 falls in 2024, with 20 in the first quarter. Contributing factors were delayed call bell responses, patient population, and noncompliance with fall prevention strategies. When assessing 2024 call bell response times, the average time to respond to a …

Using Doll Therapy To Reduce Falls In Patients With Neurodegenerative Diseases In An Acute Care Setting, Michele Mock Asn, Rn, Erica Colwell Asn, Rn, Jed Lindo Clinical Nurse, Tracy Garber Nurse Manager, Mary Hoey Nurse Scientist

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference

Background

Hospital admissions for neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's, along with neuropsychiatric symptoms (NSS), are increasing. Patients with NSS are 4-5 times more likely to fall and sustain serious injuries, impacting patient experience and causing financial strain on the organization. Current interventions to reduce the challenging NSS include psychotropic medications, which can cause further adverse effects. Therefore, non-pharmacological interventions are considered an important 1st line treatment to lessen challenging behaviors.

Local problem

At this facility, over 50% of elderly patients who fall out of bed have confusion, accounting for 20% of our 500 falls per year. The purpose of …

Background: Virtual reality (VR) was an emerging intervention to offer children a form of distraction to combat feelings of despair and positively impact anxiety and improve coping.

Problem: Hospitalization and surgical procedures often cause anxiety, fear and stress for the pediatric patient and negatively affect clinical outcomes and recovery time.

Methods: The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to measure the pre intervention and post intervention anxiety scores of 39 participants, ages 8-18 years of age, over an eight-week period. Descriptive statistics and a paired t test were used to report results. The Knowledge to Action translational science model was …

Advancing Palliative Care Competency Through An Evidence-Based Educational Intervention For Healthcare Providers, Lauren Elizabeth Griffin Nov 2025

Advancing Palliative Care Competency Through An Evidence-Based Educational Intervention For Healthcare Providers, Lauren Elizabeth Griffin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A major gap in acute care is the delayed initiation of palliative consultations. Although over 58 million people worldwide could benefit, only 14% receive such care. Despite evidence that early involvement improves outcomes, providers often overlook their value, leading to late referrals, typically after repeated hospitalizations or near end-of-life, when hospice may be more appropriate. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) educational intervention addressed a critical practice-focused question to enhance healthcare providers’ understanding of palliative care improve hospital-based patient outcomes. The intervention aimed to demonstrate a ≥20% knowledge gain from pretest to posttest scores related to distinguishing palliative care from …

The Weapon Focus Effect: Examining Attention And Memory For Weapons And Their Actions, Lindsey Pugh Nov 2025

The Weapon Focus Effect: Examining Attention And Memory For Weapons And Their Actions, Lindsey Pugh

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Decades of eye-tracking and memory research support the weapon focus effect, that weapons attract visual attention during criminal events which leaves less attention to focus on other event features. Relevant memory tests, however, typically only evaluate recognition of the perpetrator committing a crime. Rarely, if at all, do researchers use direct tests of memory for the weapons. Therefore, it is less understood if viewers are simply attending to objects or if they are encoding their details. In the present studies, we successfully replicated the attentional weapon focus effect with newly filmed stimuli of criminal and neutral events. The second …

The Association Between Social Determinants Of Health And Pressure Injury Development In Middle-Aged Adult Oncology Patients, Ashley Marston Nov 2025

The Association Between Social Determinants Of Health And Pressure Injury Development In Middle-Aged Adult Oncology Patients, Ashley Marston

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

In the United States, pressure injuries are a severe health problem that affect over 2.5 million people while approximately 60,000 of the affected will die annually from complications or infections related to the pressure injury. However, few studies have explored associated factors in the middled-aged adult oncology patient population Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are known to affect health and well-being; yet there is limited evidence that SDOH directly affect oncology patients and the risk for pressure injuries. This study will explore clinical factors associated with these social determinants of health, as well as several demographic categories such as race, …

The Impact Of Childhood Adversities On Prison Misconduct: A Study Based On General Strain Theory, Ellen Brefo Agyei Nov 2025

The Impact Of Childhood Adversities On Prison Misconduct: A Study Based On General Strain Theory, Ellen Brefo Agyei

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Drawing on General Strain Theory, this study examines how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) shape the choice of coping mechanisms of inmates within correctional settings. While prior research has explored prison misconduct, little research has looked at the relationship between ACEs, negative emotions, and prison misconduct. To address this gap, this study uses the nationally representative dataset, Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) conducted in 2016, to explore how ACEs affect prison misconduct and whether negative emotions mediate this relationship. Findings from the regression analyses suggest that inmates who experienced more ACEs experienced higher levels of negative emotions and were more likely …

Unraveling The Lullabies Of Learning: Exploring The Role Of Individual Components Of Infant-Directed Speech In Language Learning, Stephanie L. Lopez Nov 2025

Unraveling The Lullabies Of Learning: Exploring The Role Of Individual Components Of Infant-Directed Speech In Language Learning, Stephanie L. Lopez

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Children learn language more effectively from infant-directed speech (IDS) than adult-directed speech (ADS). Three experiments were run (a pilot and two full experiments) testing the effects of pitch and pitch variability on segmenting a target word out of the speech stream and then associating it to an object. Visual prosody via eyebrow movements and lip contours were added as additional cues after the Pilot Study. Additional factors included after the Pilot Study were shortened sentences from 10 syllables each to seven syllables each, shortened target words from three syllables to two syllables, consistent syllable onset of target words, and two …

Do No Harm?: An Assemblage Of Care, Compliance, And Resistance To North Carolina’S Parents’ Bill Of Rights, Sarah Cornette, William Pryor Iv Nov 2025

Do No Harm?: An Assemblage Of Care, Compliance, And Resistance To North Carolina’S Parents’ Bill Of Rights, Sarah Cornette, William Pryor Iv

Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education

North Carolina’s Parents’ Bill of Rights (NC-PBOR) requires school counselors to disclose sensitive student information to parents, creating profound legal-ethical dilemmas. This study examines how counselors navigate these mandates through interviews, surveys, and arts-based analysis. Findings show counselors experience institutional betrayal, ethical precarity, and emotional exhaustion, yet also engage in subtle resistance through strategic ambiguity, relational buffering, and quiet noncompliance. Methodologically, we integrate coding, poetic inquiry, and visual confection to capture affect, embodiment, and contradiction often missed by conventional analysis. By foregrounding emotion and multiplicity, we contribute to assemblage-informed policy studies and queer qualitative inquiry, while bearing witness to the …

Education Standards And The United States Military, Makayla Donnelly Nov 2025

Education Standards And The United States Military, Makayla Donnelly

Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy

The United States military has been observed by many conservative and libertarian think tanks, such as The Heritage Foundation and CATO, as losing strength and effectiveness. Many outside these major think tanks are concerned about why defense takes up so much of the discretionary budget when the military seemingly continues to decline as most military branches fall short on their recruitment quotas. To boost recruitment and bolster the US military several branches have reexamined policies and altered them to expand the recruiting pool. One policy that is being investigated for reexamination is education standards. Education standards in some branches may …

Chinese Communist Party Infiltration Of U.S. Pacific Islands: Protecting American National Security Through Defending Strategic Pacific Assets, Contessa Amedore

Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy

Many Americans picture the U.S.’s Western most border to be the coast of California. However, when threats have historically formed in the Pacific, U.S. Pacific Island territories have served as the nation’s first line of defense. Today, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have slowly but ambitiously deployed new age or ‘unrestricted’ warfare tactics against the United States and allies in their long awaited plan to assume global hegemony. Their illegal infiltration and psychological operations have gone past Taipei and reached American soil in Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. This paper examines how the (CCP) uses unrestricted warfare …

Music's Effect On The Mental Health Of Differing Age Groups, Margaret Cleve, Kaniyah Newborn, Luke Magro Nov 2025

Music's Effect On The Mental Health Of Differing Age Groups, Margaret Cleve, Kaniyah Newborn, Luke Magro

Science University Research Symposium (SURS)

Mental health disorders are a significant concern in today’s society. Music therapy has been shown to be an effective intervention for conditions such as anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, and insomnia. However, it is not clear if the benefits function the same across different ages. The present study examined the influence of music on mental health across age using a publicly available dataset from Kaggle.com. We hypothesized that music listening would be associated with improved mental health outcomes regardless of age and that increased listening time would correlate with lower anxiety and depression. Results indicated that daily hours of music …

Association Between Adherence Barriers, Self-Reported Adherence, And Psychiatric Symptoms Among Adults With Bipolar Disorder, Martha Sajatovic, Jennifer B. Levin, Clara Adeniyi, Jessica Black, Celeste Weise, Nicole Fiorelli, Erika Kelley

Faculty Scholarship

Aims: While suboptimal medication adherence is a widely recognized problem for people with bipolar disorder (BD), it is less clear how individual characteristics are associated with varying levels of adherence and how specific adherence barriers impact behaviors. This interim analysis from an ongoing randomized controlled trial (RCT) examined associations between patient-reported adherence, adherence barriers, and mood symptoms among poorly adherent individuals with BD. Methods: RCT participants were adults age ≥ 18 years old with BD Type 1 or 2, difficulties with medication adherence, and actively symptomatic as measured by Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) score ≥ 36, Young Mania Rating …
