Fostering Social-Emotional Development And Understanding In A Preschool Environment, Kaya Jensen Dec 2025

Fostering Social-Emotional Development And Understanding In A Preschool Environment, Kaya Jensen

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Teaching young children about friendship is crucial for fostering healthy development, building self-esteem, and helping them navigate their world. Friendship aligns with social-emotional development and children’s abilities to create and maintain peer connections. Early friendships are significant for children’s moral development, increasing attention to fairness, sympathy, and helpfulness (Dunn et al., 2000). Children who do not learn how to build friendships risk isolation and miss out on valuable life lessons, such as cooperation, empathy, self-esteem, and social skills that reduce stress and promote well-being. In order to address the issue, I delivered two lessons about friendship to preschool children at …

Little Hands, Big Impact: Building Responsibility And Environmental Awareness In Preschoolers, Danielle Gordon Dec 2025

Little Hands, Big Impact: Building Responsibility And Environmental Awareness In Preschoolers, Danielle Gordon

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

This capstone project focuses on social skills development, specifically teaching preschool-aged children environmental responsibility and the importance of cleaning up after themselves. Learning to take responsibility for their own actions fosters independence, cooperation, and respect for shared spaces; yet, many young children struggle with this concept due to their egocentric stage of development (Piaget, 1952). Preschoolers might not understand how their actions impact other people or the environment. To meet this need, I presented a 90-minute interactive lesson plan for preschoolers (aged 3-5) at Seaside Child Development Center that teaches children how even seemingly insignificant things, like tidying up their …

Enhancing Emotional Regulation Skills In Kindergarteners, Erica C. Ayers Dec 2025

Enhancing Emotional Regulation Skills In Kindergarteners, Erica C. Ayers

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Kindergarten-aged children often have trouble regulating their emotions because emotional regulation is a complex process to comprehend and manage. The development of emotional regulation is crucial in this developmental stage because it sets the child up for academic, career, and social success in life (Schlesier et al., 2019). Failing to learn successful regulation can have negative effects on mental well-being and social behaviors. Therefore, it is essential to teach kindergarteners emotional regulation. For this purpose, I developed two workshops that promoted self-awareness, cognitive reappraisal, and versatility among kindergarteners (4 to 5 years old) at Brookside Christian Little Learners in San …

Effects Of Response-Independent Food Delivery During Timeout On Timeout Punishment, Haillie Mcdonough Dec 2025

Effects Of Response-Independent Food Delivery During Timeout On Timeout Punishment, Haillie Mcdonough

All NMU Master's Theses

Timeout is a signaled, response-dependent, and time limited period in which the prevailing schedule of reinforcement is suspended. Timeouts are one of the most frequently used punishment procedures in clinical and parental practices. Even though timeout is a common punishment practice, recent research suggests that implementation errors, fidelity failures, occur at high rates in practice. The present study evaluated how failures in procedural fidelity alter the efficacy of timeout as a punisher by exposing rats to conditions in which response-independent reinforcers were delivered during timeout. During baseline conditions, no timeouts were delivered and rats’ lever-pressing produced food reinforcers according to …

Using Artificial Intelligence (Ai) To Improve The Identification Of Gifted Students, Hamid Ahmad Almalki Dec 2025

Using Artificial Intelligence (Ai) To Improve The Identification Of Gifted Students, Hamid Ahmad Almalki

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The present study examined teachers' perceptions of using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify gifted students. The issue is clearly relevant today; several schools continue to grapple with unfair practices and irregular assessment processes, most notably for culturally and linguistically different students. Conventional keys and expert opinion remain essential, but their limitations have been acknowledged. Newer research suggests that AI could actually improve the system by making it more efficient and able to pool data that originally surfaced biases. At the same time, issues of transparency, data privacy, and the ethics of decisions driven by AI remain unresolved. To gain an …

Limited research has sought to discuss the role of interorganizational collaboration in the context of victim service organizations. I investigate this topic by conducting a systematic literature review on the existing research focused on interorganizational collaboration among victim service organizations. With data gathered from this review, I explore the nature and extent of interorganizational collaboration and its potential impact on victim service organizations. I close with recommendations for future …

Assessing The Effects Of Leaderboards On Motivation And Math Achievement Of 5th And 6th Grade Students, Michele Alfieri Dec 2025

Assessing The Effects Of Leaderboards On Motivation And Math Achievement Of 5th And 6th Grade Students, Michele Alfieri

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Traditional teacher-led instructional methods are increasingly disconnected with the learning preferences of students raised in digital environments. These learners often require information to be delivered more rapidly and engagingly, prompting educators to incorporate strategies such as gamification to maintain student motivation and interest. Gamification, which involves integrating game design elements into non-game settings, has been shown to enhance engagement. A common feature of gamification is the use of leaderboards, which are visual displays that show individual and peer performance rankings. While leaderboards can foster motivation through competition, their effect on student morale and achievement outcomes is mixed. The purpose of …

An Investigation Of High School Students' Perceived Well-Being In A Flexible Blended-Learning Program Through The Lens Of Self-Determination Theory, April Burton

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation explored how participation in a flexible blended learning (FBL) program relates to high school students’ sense of well-being, as defined by self-determination theory (SDT). SDT suggests that fulfilling three basic psychological needs is considered essential for well-being and optimal functioning. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study investigates how an FBL program affects high school students’ perceptions of the fulfillment of psychological needs — autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The study involved high school students enrolled in FBL courses in a midwestern school district in the USA. Data were collected through surveys adapted from the Students’ Basic Psychological Needs Survey …

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine how gamification impacts student motivation in higher education through the framework of Self-Determination Theory (SDT). While previous research has linked gamification to engagement, this study addressed a gap by directly measuring students' satisfaction and frustration with their basic psychological needs — autonomy, competence, and relatedness — in a gamified undergraduate Biology I course. A convergent parallel mixed methods design was employed. Quantitative data were collected using the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSFS) from 22 students who completed both pre- and post-course surveys. Qualitative data were drawn from student reflection …

A Comparative Study Of Novel Methods For Variances, Taoreed Muritala Dec 2025

A Comparative Study Of Novel Methods For Variances, Taoreed Muritala

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Understanding variability is fundamental to knowledge advancement across various disciplines, including manufacturing, clinical research, biology and genetics. Population variances play a crucial role in processes such as quality control, treatment evaluation and the interpretation of biological mechanisms. However, statistical procedures for comparing variances across multiple populations remain less developed than those for comparing means. Classical omnibus tests, such as Bartlett's and Levene's, can detect overall variance heterogeneity but fail to identify which populations differ, thereby limiting their usefulness in multi-population analyses and increasing the risk of inflated family-wise error rates through repeated testing.

This thesis develops and evaluates three multiple …

Barriers To Parental Engagement In Early Childhood Education, Jordan E. Clark

Human Development and Family Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses

Parental engagement in early childhood education has long been recognized as a foundational contributor to children's academic success. However, many families face persistent barriers that limit their participation. This study examined three primary obstacles to parental engagement: disabilities, socioeconomic status, and underdeveloped parent–teacher relationships. The findings suggested that intentional, community-centered approaches effectively reduce barriers to engagement, strengthen school–family partnerships, and offer replicable models for promoting equitable participation in early childhood education settings. To bring these strategies to life, the study included a family engagement event developed in collaboration with a childcare center serving children with developmental delays, which provided a …
