Gender-Based Trading: Evidence From A Classroom Experiment Jan 2026

Gender-Based Trading: Evidence From A Classroom Experiment

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Is there a difference in the trading behavior of men and women? The question stems from research suggesting that men tend to be more overconfident than women, trade more and earn lower portfolio returns. Moreover, men appear to be less risk-averse than women. We present evidence from a student investment market simulation, Stock-Trak©, conducted in an upper division college finance course

A Note On Animating Financial Equations With Scientific Notebook®

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Students of finance are often challenged to understand how financial equations respond to changes in key variables. All too often, the pedagogy offered these students includes usage of static graphs. Although there is a plethora of research in other disciplines showing animation provides superior learning outcomes compared to static images, the use of animation to illustrate financial relationships has received little attention in the financial education literature. This paper and the animations shown on the www.financeanimations.com website demonstrate Scientific Notebook’s ® ability to animate equations commonly taught in university introductory finance courses.

Differences In Student Evaluations From Hybrid And Traditional Courses

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Hybrid courses contain online elements in combination with reduced in-class seat time. This study examines differences in student evaluations from hybrid and traditional sections of an introductory course in economic and business statistics. In our hybrid course, face-to-face lectures are replaced with online lectures and class periods are conducted as question-answer and practice sessions. We find strong evidence that students mark down evaluation scores in the hybrid versus traditional format. Markdowns occur across all dimensions of the evaluation instrument.

Brain-Type, Gender, And Student Success In The Principles Of Economics Jan 2026

Brain-Type, Gender, And Student Success In The Principles Of Economics

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Studies of the impact of gender on student performance in the principles of economics yield ambiguous conclusions. Some studies find that women are less successful than men in the principles of economics, while others conclude that gender is inconsequential. Few, if any, scientific works find women’s performance better than men’s performance. These ambiguities arise because past studies have not considered the distribution of brain-types by gender. This paper addresses the question of which brain-types are more successful in the principles of economics and whether these brain-types can be associated with a particular gender.

Gender, Sociocultural Representations Link With Family Structure In Moroccan Arabic Television Advertising, Naima Ouachene Jan 2026

Gender, Sociocultural Representations Link With Family Structure In Moroccan Arabic Television Advertising, Naima Ouachene

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Advertising is not just a reflection of society; it is a representation of the world. This phenomenon is very similar to what is called, in social psychology, a social representation. In addition, television advertisement in Moroccan Arabic employs elements of social thinking, beliefs, images, stigma or stereotypes that the receiver confronts with their own thinking system. In this regard, it recovers the image assigned to gender in Moroccan society in order to reproduce its own communicative strategies.

The Animal, Fascinating Figure Of The Tale: What Symbolic For Which Culture?, Nadia Ouachene Jan 2026

The Animal, Fascinating Figure Of The Tale: What Symbolic For Which Culture?, Nadia Ouachene

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Since time immemorial, animals have always played an important role in storytelling. However, it must be stressed that all of the animals staged in this kind of oral literature rub shoulders with human beings, speak and act like them: the storyteller attributes to them all the characters that are specific to man such as speech, work, marriage, and other things like crying, being ironic, torturing, loving and hating. Like the fables, the tale assigns animals to human traits modelled on the particular psychology of each animal species. If the storyteller tends to substitute and transform animals into human beings, it …

The Effectiveness Of Casual Group Learning In Introductory Finance Tutorials Jan 2026

The Effectiveness Of Casual Group Learning In Introductory Finance Tutorials

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Many universities require introductory financial management for undergraduate business majors. This study measures whether classroom study groups have a more positive effect on student perceptions and performance than traditional teacher driven classes. As an alternative to traditional tutorial teaching, Classroom Study Groups is an application of casual group learning and is consistent with Constructivist learning theories. The study reports significant differences between the two approaches, with student engagement and satisfaction reported at higher levels amongst those students involved in the traditional, teacher-led approach, and no significant difference between the two in regard to student performance. Interesting relationships are found between …

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

The weak rection is a syntactic behavior that characterizes verbs indicating a mental or psychological attitude towards the content of a proposition. These are verbs that do not have a real syntactic power over their complements. This article examines the mechanisms of weak rection in classical Arabic, focusing on thought verbs, and highlights the syntactic and semantic specificities that distinguish them from other verbal structures.

From Operations To Outcomes: The Role Of Industry 4.0 In Customer Management And Financial Performance, Hong Long Chen

Management Dynamics

Despite extensive research on Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies, relatively little attention has been given to their impact on financial performance at the firm level. This study proposes a model to investigate the links between I4.0 implementation level (I4.0IL), supply chain management performance (SCMP), customer management performance (CMP), and company financial outcomes using bootstrap-based structural equation modeling (SEM) with data from 91 companies across various sectors. The results of the bootstrap-based SEM with 1,000 resamples show that SCMP significantly influences both CMP and company financial performance, and CMP also significantly impacts financial performance. While I4.0IL does not significantly amplify the effects …

Developing A Novel Typology Of Unprofessional Behaviours Between Healthcare Staff: A Best Fit Framework Synthesis, Justin Aunger, Ruth Abrams, Russell Mannion, Aled Jones, Judy M. Wright, Johanna I. Westbrook, Mark Pearson, Jill Maben Jan 2026

Developing A Novel Typology Of Unprofessional Behaviours Between Healthcare Staff: A Best Fit Framework Synthesis, Justin Aunger, Ruth Abrams, Russell Mannion, Aled Jones, Judy M. Wright, Johanna I. Westbrook, Mark Pearson, Jill Maben

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Background: Unprofessional behaviours such as bullying, harassment, and microaggressions negatively affect patient safety and staff psychological wellbeing in healthcare systems globally. These behaviours do so by: (i) inhibiting health care professionals’ abilities to speak up to raise safety concerns; (ii) impairing team communication and individuals’ concentration; and (iii) promoting tolerance of bad practice. Unfortunately, there is little consensus in practice or academia about how these behaviours are defined. This can lead to an underestimation of the prevalence of these behaviours, inhibition of speaking up by victims and bystanders, and reduced accountability by those who enact these behaviours. We aimed to …

Considering Context In Latent Models Of Externalizing: Measurement Invariance By Environmental And Systemic Disadvantage In System-Involved Youth, Kendall D. Smith Jan 2026

Considering Context In Latent Models Of Externalizing: Measurement Invariance By Environmental And Systemic Disadvantage In System-Involved Youth, Kendall D. Smith

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Externalizing forms of psychopathology are said to result from a general liability towards impulsive and disruptive behaviors, including substance use, conduct problems, aggression, and antisocial behavior (Krueger et al., 2021). While the field often focuses on dispositional explanations of externalizing behaviors, there is a notable lack of attention to the contextual factors that contribute to these behaviors, beyond immediate environmental influences. This study uses Ecological Systems Theory (Bronfenbrenner, 2005) as a framework to address such gaps in the context of behavioral indicators of the latent externalizing (EXT) construct, an analysis with implications for understanding racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities. The present …

Integrating Human Factors, Technology, And Mental Health: A Mixed-Methods Framework For Aviation Maintenance Safety In The Philippines, Arthur Dela Peña

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

A complex interaction of human factors, mental health, organizational dynamics, and emerging technologies influences aviation maintenance safety in the Philippines. This study aims to develop an integrated framework to address these aspects and reduce maintenance-related errors. Using a mixed-methods approach based on Creswell’s pragmatic paradigm, the research surveyed 200 participants, including aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs), supervisors, and managers, and conducted in-depth interviews and focus groups. Quantitative analysis revealed that fatigue was a significant contributor to maintenance errors, accounting for 45% of recorded incidents and exhibiting a strong correlation with error rates (r = 0.71, p = 0.005). Incorporating human factors …

Exploring The Reduction Of Runway Incursions Through Training, Vasilios (Billy) Constaintine Metallinos

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

Runway incursions are prevalent aviation safety issues that result in adverse outcomes. The focus of this qualitative case study was exploring the reduction of runway incursions through training for pilots. Applying social cognitive theory (SCT) provided this study with a theoretical underpinning. Conducting interviews and a focus group with 17 participants allowed for the collection of enough data and resulted in identifying the importance of training in preventing runway incursions. Based on the thematic analysis conducted, it was identified that evidence-based, scenario-based, and continuous training can be used to reduce runway incursions caused by pilot deviations. The results contribute to …

Liability For Disaster Risks, Daniel A. Farber Jan 2026

Liability For Disaster Risks, Daniel A. Farber

University of Chicago Legal Forum

A growing body of law addresses liability for harms caused by disasters. The bases for liability are diverse: common law torts, statutes covering specific risks, and takings doctrine. Litigation can involve government or private defendants, while the disaster could be anything from an oil spill to a flood. This Article maps this complex legal terrain and discusses three cross-cutting themes in disaster liability. One theme is the action/inaction distinction, which can create a perverse incentive to postpone or forego mitigation efforts. The second theme involves the interplay between legislatures and courts in designing and implementing liability rules. The final theme …

In-House Lawyers And The Impact Of Crisis-Driven Financial Legislation: Evidence From Sarbanes-Oxley, Dhruv Chand Aggarwa Jan 2026

In-House Lawyers And The Impact Of Crisis-Driven Financial Legislation: Evidence From Sarbanes-Oxley, Dhruv Chand Aggarwa

University of Chicago Legal Forum

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) entrusted the general counsel (GC) of public companies with overseeing a new system of internal controls and reporting misconduct at their firms. I use a hand-collected dataset tracking the backgrounds of in-house lawyers to argue that SOX increased the value of “experienced” GCs who had worked at the firm for longer as of the legislation’s enactment. I find that firms with experienced GCs exhibited positive abnormal returns around key legislative dates associated with the passage of SOX. Experienced GCs also saw larger increases in compensation immediately after the passage of SOX. Experienced GCs could …

Dual Credit Enrollment And First-Year Undergraduate Experience In Texas: Insights From A Mixed Methods Study, Summer Pannell, Jennifer D. Goddard Jan 2026

Dual Credit Enrollment And First-Year Undergraduate Experience In Texas: Insights From A Mixed Methods Study, Summer Pannell, Jennifer D. Goddard

School Leadership Review

There has been considerable expansion in the availability of dual credit coursework, however, there is still a lack of understanding regarding how effective these programs are in equipping students for success in post-secondary education (Struhl & Vargas, 2012). This study used a mixed-methods approach to explore the relationships between various components of dual credit programs and the experiences of first-time undergraduate students. The results of a hierarchical multiple regression indicated a statistically significant relationship between the modality of dual credit coursework and students’ first-year undergraduate GPAs but not between the setting of the two factors. Further, the results did not …
