A Gaussian Process Regression-Based Denoising Method For Transient Electromagnetic Signals, Wang Peng, Shi Jiaxing, Lu Kai, Hu Jinru, Wen Guangyuan, Zhai Haojie

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective The transient electromagnetic (TEM) method serves as a primary geophysical technique for groundwater detection in coalfields at present, with the detection results directly influencing the implementation of water hazard prevention and control in coal mines. Since it is difficult to avoid electromagnetic interference sources such as power lines during data acquisition, TEM signals are prone to be contaminated by electromagnetic noise. Given that primary denoising techniques such as wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) are yet to be further improved, this study developed a novel Gaussian process regression (GPR)-based denoising method for TEM signals. Methods First, time alignment …

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms and anxiety are highly prevalent among people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), strongly associated with poor outcomes, and rarely recognized or treated. Integrating families into interventions may amplify supportive care treatment effects and overcome common challenges, yet this strategy is understudied. The Supporting Evidence-based Responses to Emotional Needs in Emphysema (SERENE) trial's main objective is to identify the mechanisms through which a family-partnered Coping Skills Training (CST) reduces depressive symptoms among patients with COPD, testing five putative mechanisms: family relationship quality, patient and caregiver self-efficacy, patient loneliness, and caregiver psychological distress.

METHODS: SERENE will enroll 375 …

The Lived Experiences Of Visually Impaired Professionals, Robert Anthony Hoyt Feb 2026

The Lived Experiences Of Visually Impaired Professionals, Robert Anthony Hoyt

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of visually impaired professionals (VIPs) as they navigate workplace inclusion, identity, and systemic accessibility. Drawing on Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological psychological method, the study analyzed in-depth interviews with eleven purposefully selected participants across diverse professions. The research aimed to address a gap in disability studies by centering on the psychological meanings embedded in the narratives of VIPs; voices that are often underrepresented in organizational research. Through rigorous thematic analysis, three essential themes emerged: (1) the silent erasure of competence, reflecting the emotional labor required to assert professional legitimacy in ableist environments; (2) resilience …

Moral Boundaries: How Sacred Values And Cultural Tightness Influence Entrepreneurial Action, Paul Sanchez-Ruiz, Ileana Maldonado-Bautista, Peter G. Klein, Joseph Vaughn Feb 2026

Moral Boundaries: How Sacred Values And Cultural Tightness Influence Entrepreneurial Action, Paul Sanchez-Ruiz, Ileana Maldonado-Bautista, Peter G. Klein, Joseph Vaughn

Management Faculty Publications

This study examines how religiously grounded sacred values and cultural tightness shape entrepreneurial action. Scholarship on religious entrepreneurship often emphasizes how practices connected to believed superhuman powers motivate and support entrepreneurial processes and outcomes. We highlight a complementary perspective by theorizing that sacred values work as moral commitments rooted in religious practices that limit the action individuals view as acceptable under uncertainty. We further argue that the influence of sacred values depends on the cultural contexts in which entrepreneurial action is embedded. Using multilevel data from more than 14,000 individuals across 11 countries, we find that sacred values are negatively …

Mentoring programs are pivotal to workforce education, bridging skill gaps and fostering employee retention across industries. Although this study focuses on mentoring practices within the education sector, its findings are broadly applicable to other professions where effective mentoring supports employee onboarding, retention, and professional growth. Through qualitative interviews with mentors and mentees in a North Texas school district, this study identifies key factors contributing to successful mentoring: structured sessions, effective leadership, and prioritization of mentor-mentee relationships. While the findings underscore the universal principles of mentoring, the application of these insights across various professions warrants further research. By situating these findings …

When Systems Fail: The Impact Of Protocol On Physician Moral Distress, Aya Dudar Feb 2026

When Systems Fail: The Impact Of Protocol On Physician Moral Distress, Aya Dudar

Clinical Research in Practice: The Journal of Team Hippocrates

Physicians often face the decision between following rigid hospital protocol and doing the right thing for the patient, creating moral distress and contributing to burnout. This letter describes a case in which an elderly patient with COVID-19 pneumonia and a DNI order developed worsening hypercapnia and required noninvasive ventilation. Despite clinical appropriateness, hospital policy prohibited BiPAP use in obtunded patients due to aspiration risk - even when the resident offered continuous bedside monitoring. This case highlights the ethical tension that arises when rigid hospital policies prevent physicians from making real-time exceptions in appropriate situations. Empowering physicians to make context-driven decisions …

Staff Education To Reduce Compassion Fatigue In Acute Care Staff Nurses, Kamala C. Mcgee Feb 2026

Staff Education To Reduce Compassion Fatigue In Acute Care Staff Nurses, Kamala C. Mcgee

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Compassion fatigue (CF), burnout, and moral distress are common in high-acuity nursing environments, yet nurses are rarely taught how to recognize or manage these challenges. The guiding question for this staff education project was about whether education focused on CF and mindfulness-based coping strategies would improve nurses’ knowledge and attitudes in an acute care VA medical center. Posteducation results (n = 20) showed meaningful, statistically significant improvements. Familiarity with CF increased from baseline (M = 2.35; SD = 1.04) to post implementation (M = 3.75; SD = .91), t(19) = −5.085, p < .001. Confidence in recognizing CF in oneself improved from baseline (M = 2.6; SD = .875) to post implementation (M = 3.60; SD = .821), p = .004. Confidence in recognizing CF in colleagues increased from baseline (M = 2.40; SD = .821) to postimplementation (M = 3.15; SD = .671), p = .012. Agreement that seeking help is a sign of weakness decreased from baseline (M = 2.00; SD = .503) to postimplementation (M = 1.40; SD = .951), p = .024. Although perceptions of organizational support did not change, nurses reported greater use of mindfulness, peer support, and boundary setting, supporting nurse wellbeing and psychological safety. Several recommendations emerge from this project. CF education should be integrated into routine staff development, annual competencies, and onboarding for new nurses. By reducing stigma around seeking help and promoting peer awareness, this work supports fostering a workplace culture where all nurses feel safe, supported, and valued, a positive social change.

Even In That Silence: Ignatian Retreats In The Transformation Of Teacher Spiritual Identity, Nancy Lourdes U. Toledo

eJournal of Catholic Education in Australasia

A teacher continues to navigate and develop one’s personal and professional identity as one interacts with one’s students, peers, mentors, and school. Schools with religious affiliation add another layer of complexity to this interaction as their education paradigm focuses not just on a teacher’s professional identity but one’s spiritual identity as well. Through an in-depth interview of four in-service teachers in a Jesuit school in the Philippines, this study aimed to discover how Ignatian retreats can effect transformation in teacher spiritual identity. The study employed the phenomenological analysis in educational qualitative research. The data were analysed using Castleberry and Nolan’s …

The Impact Of Simulation-Based Education On Novice Nurses’ Knowledge Of Pressure Injury Prevention, Michelle "Mikki" Cantu Feb 2026

The Impact Of Simulation-Based Education On Novice Nurses’ Knowledge Of Pressure Injury Prevention, Michelle "Mikki" Cantu

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Hospital-acquired pressure injuries remain a significant patient safety concern in acute care settings despite the availability of evidence-based prevention guidelines. Novice nurses, who often have limited clinical experience and exposure to wound care education, may be less prepared to consistently identify risk factors, accurately stage pressure injuries, and implement appropriate preventive strategies. Simulation-based education offers an experiential learning approach that supports the translation of evidence-based knowledge into clinical practice. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice quality improvement project was to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based education in improving novice nurses’ knowledge of pressure injury identification and prevention. The …
