Parents’ Lived Experiences With Competitive Integrated Employment For Children With Intellectual And Developmental Disability, Dr. Aisha J. Omar
Parents’ Lived Experiences With Competitive Integrated Employment For Children With Intellectual And Developmental Disability, Dr. Aisha J. Omar
Developmental Disabilities Network Journal
This phenomenological qualitative study explores the lived experiences of Kentucky parents seeking Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) for their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Guided by the research questions—How do parents experience this process, and what barriers or supports do they encounter?—the study highlights systemic challenges despite legislative efforts such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. In-depth interviews with five parents revealed three themes: (a) parental transformation and the pursuit of meaningful work, (b) systemic challenges in accessing CIE, and (c) overcoming protective instincts: navigating fear, independence, and self-advocacy. Findings suggest a …

Eyes On Every Corner: Pole Cameras And The Living History Of The Fourth Amendment, Benjamin D. Semark
Helms School of Government Undergraduate Law Review
The right to security in personal effects has been well-established since the foundation of the United States of America. This right finds its roots in the English common law right against trespass. Although ancient, it has proved timeless, adapting and growing with new technology and societal expectations. Courts have expanded the interpretation of this right, adapting its reach to maintain the spirit of the Fourth Amendment with rulings such as Katz, Jones, and Carpenter. However, this Amendment is on the cusp of a Katz-like rework to accommodate technological advancements. The Supreme Court has not yet fully …

Clinical Coaches Igniting The Sparc To Improve Rn Retention, Kate Williams, Rachel Hutton
Clinical Coaches Igniting The Sparc To Improve Rn Retention, Kate Williams, Rachel Hutton
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background: The shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) in the healthcare workforce continues to be a major concern to healthcare executives. Department of Health and Human Services predict that Texas will face a shortage of most nurse types by 2032 as 16.3% of the projected demand for RNs in 2032 will not be met. Nurse preceptors use evidence-based practices to support the successful transition/orientation of newly hired nurses as it relates to quality patient care and retention of nurses. Clinical Coaches are foundational for the success of all orientation programming and have tremendous impact on our nurses. Coaching involves a mutual …
Enhancing Nurse-To-Nurse Relationships And Work Environments As Experienced Nurses Transition To New Clinical Specialties, Jennifer K. Chicca, Hope C. Hubbard
Enhancing Nurse-To-Nurse Relationships And Work Environments As Experienced Nurses Transition To New Clinical Specialties, Jennifer K. Chicca, Hope C. Hubbard
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Nurses interact with a variety of healthcare professionals, including fellow nurses with different levels of authority and/or experience, as part of their day-to-day practice. As they interact with their nursing peers, nurses develop connections with unique aspects, benefits, and challenges, and these relationships can have healthy and unhealthy elements and relations can change over time. Notably, healthy nurse-to-nurse relationships build teams, increase collaboration, and strengthen effective communications (Institute for Safe Medication Practices, 2021) and thus professional relationships heavily influence the work environment. Unfortunately, violations of healthy relationships and work environments are common and these issues threaten adverse outcomes such as …

The Justice Implications Of Public-School Discipline For African American Students In The Usa, Dr. Demeka Denay Simmons, Dr. Festus Obi
African Journal of Criminology and Justice Studies
National data illustrates that using exclusionary discipline practices has resulted in disproportionality and overrepresentation in school discipline. Additionally, research also illustrates that African Americans have been overrepresented in exclusionary discipline at higher rates than their White counterparts. This study aimed to determine if there was a statistically significant difference in the percentage of exclusionary discipline practices between African American and White students based on school district settings within Texas. The researchers analyzed archival data from 673 students in grades 3-12 enrolled in a Texas public school. The statistical tests used to analyze the research questions included Chi-Square and multinomial logistic …
A Conceptualization Of The Teaching Practice Of Building, Shari L. Stockero, Blake E. Peterson, Keith R. Leatham, Laura R. Van Zoest
A Conceptualization Of The Teaching Practice Of Building, Shari L. Stockero, Blake E. Peterson, Keith R. Leatham, Laura R. Van Zoest
Michigan Tech Publications
In this theoretical paper, we present a conceptualization of the teaching practice of building—a teaching practice that takes advantage of high-leverage student contributions we call Mathematical Opportunities in Student Thinking (MOSTs). Specifying this complex teaching practice is important because it provides the detail needed for mathematics education researchers to study the nuances of teachers’ in-the-moment use of student thinking and for mathematics teacher educators to support teachers in developing such use. We describe key aspects and teacher actions associated with the four elements of building: Establish, Grapple Toss, Conduct, and Make Explicit. Throughout the paper we compare and contrast this …

Deception And Deception Mitigation In Multi-Agent Systems, Nancirose Piazza
Deception And Deception Mitigation In Multi-Agent Systems, Nancirose Piazza
Doctoral Works at the University of New Haven
In multi-agent learning systems where agents interact in dynamic and complex environments, cooperation, coordination and communication are fundamental to achieving collective or individual goals. However, the rise of both emergent and induced deceptive behaviors pose significant challenges to system integrity and performance. Emergent deception and deceptive behaviors may manifest as a result of objective misalignment or incomplete situational awareness, leading to systematic failure in coordination. Agents that engage in intentional deceptive behaviors manipulate outcomes for their self-interest, undermining the fairness, security and reliability of these systems. Modeling and mitigating these forms of deception is critical to not only ensure effective …

Introduction: Rethinking Circulation In Italian Film And Media, Simone Brioni Dr., Rachel Johnson, Shelleen Greene
Introduction: Rethinking Circulation In Italian Film And Media, Simone Brioni Dr., Rachel Johnson, Shelleen Greene
Department of English Faculty Publications
This introduction to the special issue ‘Rethinking Circulation in
Italian Film and Media’ reconsiders how Italian audiovisual culture
moves across borders – industrially, geographically, linguistically,
and digitally. By focusing on the complex dynamics of circulation,
the essays gathered here trace the evolving connections between
production and distribution, exploring how contemporary modes
of localization, translation, and platform curation shape the
visibility and cultural capital of Italian cinema in global contexts.
From streaming giants such as Netflix to curated services like
MUBI, and from film festival circuits to independent film-making
networks, the issue interrogates how transnational infrastructures
of distribution redefine what counts …

Act Therapy Benefits Diverse Racial, Ethnic & Disabled Groups, Jared Vance
Research on Capitol Hill
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has been widely studied, but most research has focused on white, western populations. We need to know if ACT works equally well for people from diverse racial, ethnic, and disability backgrounds to know if it is a helpful tool for these groups. This meta-analysis brings together studies from around the world to answer that question.

Lived Experiences Of Autonomy, Competence, And Relatedness To Commitment Among Middle School Teachers, Chandra Garlington-Hughes
Lived Experiences Of Autonomy, Competence, And Relatedness To Commitment Among Middle School Teachers, Chandra Garlington-Hughes
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Retaining middle school teachers has become increasingly challenging due to factors such as burnout, limited leadership support, and high job demands. School administrators need to understand these factors as a key indicator contributing to elevated attrition rates. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of middle school teachers regarding work-related autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and how these psychological needs contribute to their long-term commitment to the profession. Self-determination theory and Dahlberg’s reflective lifeworld research approach grounded this study. The participants were 11 U.S. middle school teachers with 5 or more years of professional …
The Impact Of Second-Tiered Leadership Behavior On Postmerger Experience In The Jamaica Constabulary Force, James Theophilus Golding
The Impact Of Second-Tiered Leadership Behavior On Postmerger Experience In The Jamaica Constabulary Force, James Theophilus Golding
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Following the merger of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) in May 2014, complaints emerged about inequitable treatment of former ISCF members, raising questions about social justice and breaches of the moral contract. Although prior research highlighted the importance of leadership in mergers, it neglected to examine the role of second-tier leadership. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to investigate the potential role of second-tiered JCF leadership behavior in these perceived social justice breaches. A transformational leadership framework, which centers on leaders’ behavior and communication to motivate followers, underpinned the study. Purposeful …

Exploring Effective Retention Strategies Of Skilled And Productive Personnel In The Healthcare Industry, Joshua Emmanuel Banks
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Employee retention remains a significant challenge for healthcare organizations. Healthcare human resource (HR) managers are concerned about high turnover because it increases staffing costs, disrupts continuity of care, and threatens patient safety and workforce stability. Grounded in transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to explore strategies that healthcare HR managers use to retain skilled and productive employees to ensure continuity of care, patient safety, and overall organizational success. The participants were seven HR managers from the healthcare industry in Virginia; West Virginia; Washington, DC; and Maryland who retained skilled and productive employees to ensure …
