Institutionalizing A Culture Of Respect For Teaching And Professional Faculty, Laura E. Sponsler Feb 2026

Institutionalizing A Culture Of Respect For Teaching And Professional Faculty, Laura E. Sponsler

Higher Education: Faculty Scholarship

The University of Denver has made great strides in improving faculty work and culture with the creation of full time non-tenure track lines – the Teaching and Professional Faculty. In 2015, DU’s faculty senate and Board of Trustees approved and created professional pathways with promotion, longer term contracts, and defined responsibilities for Teaching and Professional Faculty. Compared to other universities and colleges, our current strengths include multi-year contracts, participation and leadership in university governance, opportunities for advancement and promotion, and collegiality amongst faculty members.

This white paper serves to examine the institutionalization of these lines and the current status of …

The Culture Cure: Behavioral Supervision And The Regulation Of Financial Institutions, David B. Lourie Feb 2026

The Culture Cure: Behavioral Supervision And The Regulation Of Financial Institutions, David B. Lourie

Mercer Law Review

This Article advances a normative claim: U.S. financial regulators must move beyond primarily adversarial, enforcement-driven models and adopt behavioral supervisory tools—particularly elements of culture assessments—to proactively help guide ethical firm conduct and mitigate systemic risk. Importantly, the proposal here is incremental and resource-efficient. Many recommendations place the onus on firms to assess and demonstrate their culture, while regulators set expectations, review outputs, and selectively verify findings. The framework proceeds in progressive stages—beginning with voluntary, partnership-based initiatives, moving toward light-touch integration within existing examinations, and scaling only where persistent governance weaknesses or systemic risks warrant closer attention. This tiered approach reflects …

Requesting Less, Winning More: A Plaintiff Strategy To Eliminate Low-Value Anchors, Emily V. Shaw, Jade E. Larson Feb 2026

Requesting Less, Winning More: A Plaintiff Strategy To Eliminate Low-Value Anchors, Emily V. Shaw, Jade E. Larson

Mercer Law Review

Picture this: You are a plaintiffs’ lawyer representing a permanently injured client in a high-stakes lawsuit. You think you can earn millions of dollars for your client based on their injuries—but something is holding you back: your client’s past medical bills. To date, she has only had to pay around $20,000. You worry that this fact might make your request for several million dollars in non-economic damages seem excessive to a jury. So, you make a plan: on the eve of trial, you withdraw your request for economic damages and stick to only requesting non-economic damages in the millions. There …

Achieving and sustaining low disease activity (LDA) and remission in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains challenging. This study examined the rates and predictors of LDA/remission and sustained LDA/remission in an Indonesian RA cohort. A retrospective study of newly diagnosed adult patients attending a rheumatology clinic in 2020-2021 was conducted. Patients were followed for 12 months to evaluate achievement of LDA/remission, defined as DAS28-ESR ≤3.2, and those meeting the target were observed for an additional 12 months to evaluate sustained LDA/remission. Cox regression was used to identify predictors of time to LDA/remission and loss of LDA/remission. Of 166 participants, 91 (54.8%) achieved …

Executive Order 14173 (Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring  Merit-Based Opportunities) has contributed to reshaping the policy  environment for marginalized populations including women,  communities of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities  on university campuses. There is limited scholarly research exploring  how qualitative empirical studies probe into how higher education  leaders are navigating compliance with federal diversity, equity, and  inclusion (DEI) mandates amid heightened political and legal scrutiny  in the United States. Grounded in Viewpoint Discrimination Theory,  guided by Inclusive and Transformational Leadership frameworks, this  empirical study employs a multiple-case design integrating data from  scholarly literature, policy implementation analysis, institutional policy …

Toward A Model Of Agentic Professional Learning: A Phenomenological Study Of Collective Efficacy Development, Stephanie Thomas Feb 2026

Toward A Model Of Agentic Professional Learning: A Phenomenological Study Of Collective Efficacy Development, Stephanie Thomas

Education Dissertations

Collective teacher efficacy (CTE) refers to a faculty’s shared belief in its collective ability to take action and positively impact student outcomes in ways more influential than other predictive factors, including socioeconomic status or prior achievement. Research has shown that high levels of CTE are associated with improved student achievement as well as positive outcomes and productive behaviors among educators. However, limited attention has been given to how intentional design and facilitation of professional learning experiences could foster the development of CTE. Given the strong empirical evidence linking CTE with student achievement and the virtuous cycle, or bidirectional causality, between …

Managing State-Owned University Student Dormitories In The Philippines: The Role Of Service Quality, Marc Immanuel G. Isip Feb 2026

Managing State-Owned University Student Dormitories In The Philippines: The Role Of Service Quality, Marc Immanuel G. Isip

Journal of Public Affairs and Development

State-subsidized student housing is generally left undeveloped, and only a few efforts focus on evaluating and improving service quality and living accommodation satisfaction in state-owned/managed dormitories in a sustainable, strategic manner. These student housing services are threatened by limited government funding and the challenges posed by the post-pandemic period. Inflation has prompted an increase in dormitory fees, but services remain generally affordable; however, higher fees have raised expectations for service quality. This paper aims to investigate the role of service quality in state-owned/managed university student housing services and explore how it influences residents’ satisfaction with living accommodations. Using Partial Least …

Background/Objectives: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is the most common subtype of traumatic brain injury, where patients experience a multitude of symptoms from headaches to memory loss and mood changes. Consequently, there are known poor prognostic factors for mTBI that can impede recovery and alter management courses. This narrative review aims to synthesize and provide a critical assessment of the current diagnostic criteria, management, and prognostic factors for mTBI to inform practice guidelines. Methods: This study adopts a patient-centered approach, focusing on treating presenting symptoms and referring patients to specialists for abnormal exam findings as needed. These findings …

Rewiring The Senses: Neural And Perceptual Adaptation Through Cultural Immersion In Chile, Alexa Castillo Feb 2026

Rewiring The Senses: Neural And Perceptual Adaptation Through Cultural Immersion In Chile, Alexa Castillo

University Honors Theses

This thesis explores how cultural immersion reshapes perception over time. Rather than focusing only on language acquisition, the project examines how sustained exposure to a new cultural and linguistic environment alters sensory processing, cognitive effort, and emotional experience. The study draws on cultural neuroscience and neuroplasticity research to frame immersion as a process of adaptive recalibration.

Over four weeks in Valparaíso, Chile, I documented daily changes in auditory processing, visual attention, emotional response, and social interpretation. Journal entries were analyzed using qualitative thematic coding and organized into five categories: language overload, cognitive effort, automaticity, anxiety/frustration, and belonging/comfort. Weekly intensity ratings …

Addressing Health Inequities For People With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities In The Hospital Through Partnerships In Nurse Training, Suzannah Iadarola, Amanda Laprime, Samantha Hochheimer, Tabby Anvari, Carrie Baker, Jacqueline Goodman Feb 2026

Addressing Health Inequities For People With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities In The Hospital Through Partnerships In Nurse Training, Suzannah Iadarola, Amanda Laprime, Samantha Hochheimer, Tabby Anvari, Carrie Baker, Jacqueline Goodman

Developmental Disabilities Network Journal

People with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) deserve the same access to quality healthcare yet are at increased risk of medical and/or psychiatric conditions as compared to the general population. Patients with IDD have less health satisfaction, shorter life expectancy, less access to preventative care, higher chronic health conditions, overuse of certain medications, and increased mortality. This population and their caregivers report high levels of dissatisfaction with emergency/inpatient care. Nurses also express frustration with lack of training, limited resources, and competing priorities.

We developed the Advancing Supportive Care through Education for Nurses on Disability (ASCEND) Program, to build the capacity of inpatient/Emergency …
