Strategies To Enhance Health-Promoting Schools Based On The Global Standards For School Administrators, Nachanan Suphasirisuk, Piyapong Khaikleng

Journal of Health Research

Background: Health-promoting schools (HPS) are a key strategy for improving student health and supporting national education policy. Despite its importance, evidence on the implementation of global HPS standards (GSHPS) in diverse school settings in Thailand remains limited.

Method: A quantitative-dominant, two-phase design was used. Quantitative data were obtained from 498 school administrators using validated assessment tools (S-CVI = 4.62–5.00; α = 0.935–0.967). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression. Qualitative data were collected through focus groups with nine administrators and experts to contextualize quantitative patterns and provide practice-oriented insights regarding implementation feasibility.

Results: HPS implementation across …

Positioning: A Theoretical Framework For Research Development, Michael J. Spires Apr 2026

Positioning: A Theoretical Framework For Research Development, Michael J. Spires

Research Development Review: The NORDP Journal

A phenomenological examination of the proposal review process suggests that a good idea is a necessary – but not sufficient – condition for securing funding to support research, scholarly, and creative projects. Funders of all sorts and sizes receive thousands of proposals each year, but they can fund only a fraction of those. Experience as a reviewer, and other evidence, suggests that a constellation of intangibles called “positioning,” a concept first articulated in the context of research development circa 2006, plays a significant, frequently determinative role in funding success. This paper builds on Dave Stone’s pioneering work to develop a …

President João Goulart And The Breakdown Of U.S.-Brazilian Relations, Jake Hall Apr 2026

President João Goulart And The Breakdown Of U.S.-Brazilian Relations, Jake Hall

Commonwealth Review of Political Science

The 1950s and 1960s were a tumultuous time for relations between the United States and Brazil. Following the Cuban Revolution and the rise of Castro in 1959, the United States felt vulnerable and feared that the Cuban Revolution would spread communism to other countries in Latin America. Meanwhile, Brazil was experiencing an economic crisis as former President Juscelino Kubitschek had engaged in expensive policies intended to grow Brazil’s economy and spur industrial development. These policies left the country with rampant inflation and an untenable amount of debt, which Brazil had no hope of paying off. President John F. Kennedy’s Alliance …

Succession Strategies For Family Business Owners, Sara Ann Neel Apr 2026

Succession Strategies For Family Business Owners, Sara Ann Neel

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Family business succession remains a persistent challenge, as many family-owned enterprises fail to survive transitions in leadership and ownership. Family business owners and stakeholders are concerned with ineffective succession because failed transitions can threaten business longevity, family relationships, and the preservation of multigenerational wealth and legacy. Grounded in the family business three-circle model and stewardship theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore effective succession strategies used by some family business owners to improve succession outcomes. The participants were eight senior family business owners in Texas whose business revenues were between $3 million and $250 million. Data …

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Title: Bridging Theory and Practice: Experiential Learning in Measurement and Evaluation Background: Experiential learning is an important component of student development because it allows students to apply classroom knowledge in authentic settings. In the HHP 340 Measurement and Evaluation course at Fort Hays State University, students are introduced to testing protocols and performance assessment procedures; however, less is known about how hands-on combined experiences influence students’ confidence, anxiety, motivation, and readiness to administer testing. This project was designed to examine whether participation in a structured experiential learning opportunity improves student outcomes across the training process. Methods: A repeated-measures design was …

Romance Scam Reporting And Support: Help-Seeking Timing, Trust, And Escalation, Ld Herrera Apr 2026

Romance Scam Reporting And Support: Help-Seeking Timing, Trust, And Escalation, Ld Herrera

Research & Publications

Built on social engineering and identity deception, romance scams often create financial loss and distress. For victims, it can be difficult to know where to go, what information is needed, and what outcomes are realistic. This paper reports results from an anonymous survey of people who were targeted by or experienced a romance scam (completed surveys: n=386), focusing on (1) when and whether victims first reach out for help, (2) perceived difficulty and confidence in navigating support, (3) how trust relates to expectations of assistance, and (4) how loss severity relates to transfer-method complexity. When help was sought, it was …

Implementing Positive Mental Health Promotion In An Under-Resourced School, Cameron M. Friedel, Angela Blackwell, Cat Daniel Apr 2026

Implementing Positive Mental Health Promotion In An Under-Resourced School, Cameron M. Friedel, Angela Blackwell, Cat Daniel

Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium

The realities of under-resourced schools, while often described in terms of constraint, also present a meaningful opportunity for schools to intentionally promote positive mental health. By recognizing and building upon students’ existing strengths and adaptive capacities, school-based initiatives can transform everyday environments and routines into contexts that foster regulation, inclusion, and well-being for all students now and in the future. The integration of positive mental health within a school system impacts the behavior, social-emotional learning (SEL) skills, and academic development of all students. Given this information a digital toolkit was created as a targeted, occupational therapy (OT) informed solution for …

Democracy At Work And The Promise Of Dignity: Worker Cooperatives And The Experiences Of Workers Of Color, Isabella "Leila" Thomas Apr 2026

Democracy At Work And The Promise Of Dignity: Worker Cooperatives And The Experiences Of Workers Of Color, Isabella "Leila" Thomas

Undergraduate Theses

The United States faces profound wealth inequality which has also disproportionately disadvantaged people of color in terms of economic security. This study investigates how participation in worker cooperatives, which provide higher wages and greater worker benefits on average, impacts worker-members of color. The study draws on qualitative interviews with worker members from largely minority-led cooperatives. It explores how the key cooperative principles of democratic decision-making, autonomy, and community engagement can counteract marginalization. This paper fills significant gaps in research on workplace dynamics by applying Blustein & Allan (2025)'s recently formulated dignity-at-work framework to an alternative, democratized workplace model rather than …

The Sensationalizing Of Presidential Assassinations In Mass Media Throughout American History, Lindsay E. Smith Apr 2026

The Sensationalizing Of Presidential Assassinations In Mass Media Throughout American History, Lindsay E. Smith

Undergraduate Theses

This project explores how mass media has shaped the public response to presidential assassinations across American history. By examining the deaths of Abraham Lincoln (1865), James A. Garfield (1881), William McKinley (1901), and John F. Kennedy (1963), we can trace how evolving media technologies – such as newspapers, yellow journalism, radio broadcasts, and live television coverage – have sensationalized violence, politicized tragedy, and transformed periods of national mourning into mass spectacles. The thesis analyzes reporting methods, narrative framing, and the news industry to show how each has influenced emotional response, political landscapes, and eventual presidential legacy. Ultimately, we find that …

Student Capstone Papers

This capstone examined the challenges adults face following traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and explored interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive functioning and mental health. This capstone also aimed to reduce caregiver stress and burnout by expanding knowledge and resources focused on cognitive and mental health within the population. TBIs can result from a variety of causes, affecting cognitive abilities, mental health, and functional outcomes. This capstone shows evidence-based interventions designed to improve cognitive functioning, facilitate engagement in meaningful activities to improve mental health, and enhance overall quality of life for adults recovering from TBI. This also will demonstrate potential for occupational …

Creative Constraints And Studio Ecology: Rethinking Collaboration In Contemporary Music Practice, Sean Foran Apr 2026

Creative Constraints And Studio Ecology: Rethinking Collaboration In Contemporary Music Practice, Sean Foran

Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai

Presentation at SAE New Zealand Research Seminar Series

This presentation explores how creative constraints can function not as limitations, but as methodological tools within contemporary music production and musical improvisation. In an era of near-unlimited technological possibility in the recording studio, the question of how musicians make effective creative decisions becomes increasingly significant.

Drawing on two practice-based research projects, (1) a constrained studio recording study built around the aphorism “no more than four,” and (2) an interdisciplinary improvisation project using poetry as both stimulus and constraint, this research examines how deliberately imposed limitations shape collaboration, decision-making, and musical outcomes in …

Introduction: – Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets must balance collegiate demands with military preparation, leaving them vulnerable to psychological stressors. While structured strength and conditioning (S&C) programs enhance physical readiness, their impact on psychological health in cadet populations remains unclear. This study evaluated changes in depression, eating behaviors, sleep quality, and emotion regulation during a 12-wk S&C program. Methods: – Forty-nine U.S. Air Force ROTC cadets (21 female, 28 male; age: 20 ± 2 yr; body mass index: 24.2 ± 4.4 kg·m−2; body fat %: 27.1 ± 9.0%) completed the Supporting Tactical Athlete Readiness (STAR) program, a …

Advancing The Study Of Politics And The Brain: Targets For Research On Neurology And Political Behavior, Glenn W. Rainey Jr. Apr 2026

Advancing The Study Of Politics And The Brain: Targets For Research On Neurology And Political Behavior, Glenn W. Rainey Jr.

Commonwealth Review of Political Science

In this paper I argue that advancing research on neurology is creating important opportunities for political scientists to integrate its findings into their research, particularly with regard to the effects of emotional processes on political behavior.  I provide a general background on neural anatomy, genetics, and neurobiological chemicals, and I briefly review techniques of neurological research, the findings that have been developing, and the limitations on the research. I provide an overview of selected key neural anatomy, and neurotransmitters and hormones, that play a role in neurological functions, and particularly in the development and expression of emotions.  I then suggest …
