Implementation Of A Death Anxiety Screening Protocol Specific To Patients With Advanced Cancer In An Outpatient Palliative Care Setting, Olivia M. Sasdi

DNP Projects

Abstract

Background: Recent studies have shown that upwards of 80% of patients with advanced cancer suffer from death anxiety resulting in increased physical and psychological suffering. Despite death anxiety’s ubiquitous nature and negative impact, the literature regarding this condition consistently indicates that it remains under-identified and undertreated in patients with advanced cancer. The “Death and Dying Distress Scale” (DADDS) is a clinically validated tool used to identify, measure, and guide effective treatment modalities for death anxiety specifically in patients with advanced cancer, but is scarcely used routinely in practice. Incorporating this screening tool to be used regularly could improve identification …

Female Lawyers Don’T Need Pity; They Need A Paycheck, Meagan S. Bilodeau Jan 2023

Female Lawyers Don’T Need Pity; They Need A Paycheck, Meagan S. Bilodeau

Pell Scholars and Senior Theses

Whether it's pity or patronization female lawyers have often been criticized. They're visualized on the lower level of the patriarchal hierarchy system in the Hollywood courtroom. However, women that hold emotional intelligence don't need pity. Emotional intelligence encompasses how to set boundaries, stay motivated, hold healthy relationships inside and outside the courtroom, as well as maintain self-regulation. Through analysis of the biographical films Erin Brockovich, On the Basis of Sex, and The Mauritanian this study explores how extensively psychological resilience subfactors are depicted, proving whether or not female lawyers are emotionally prepared to succeed in their noteworthy cases.

Schizophrenia And The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Detecting And Treating It: Cognitive Frontiers, Mohanad G. Yaseen, Saad Abas Abed

Mesopotamian Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

A persistent mental illness that changes thoughts, feelings, behaviour, and communication with people is schizophrenia. Delusions, hallucinations, distorted thinking, lack of motivation, and fear of society are often its hallmarks. Although there is currently no cure for schizophrenia, patients can greatly benefit from early diagnosis and treatment. The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is very promising for the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. Artificial intelligence systems can scan and analyse vast amounts of data, including genetic and hereditary data, brain scans, and medical records, and predict when a person might develop schizophrenia if the factor is hereditary. This can help …

Combating False Election Information In A Section 230 Protected World: To Moderate Or Not To Moderate, Caitlin Muraca

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal

The note examines the challenges of combating false election information on social media platforms, focusing on the role of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. It argues that while Section 230 is crucial for protecting online speech, its current form is inadequate in addressing the spread of misinformation in the modern digital landscape. The note evaluates various proposals for reform, including the repeal or modification of Section 230, and suggests a balanced approach that maintains its protections while incentivizing improved content moderation to combat false election information.

Making Reflection Critical: Structural And Historical Attributions For Inequity, Esther Burson, Erin B. Godfrey, Riana M. Brown, Deanna A. Ibrahim

Psychology: Faculty Books

Book Abstract: Critical consciousness represents the analysis of inequitable social conditions, the motivation to effect change, and the action taken to redress perceived inequities. Scholarship and practice in the last two decades have highlighted critical consciousness as a key developmental competency for those experiencing marginalization and as a pathway for navigating and resisting oppression. This competency is more urgent than ever given the current sociopolitical moment, in which longstanding inequity, bias, discrimination, and competing ideologies are amplified. This volume assembles leading scholars to address some of the field's most urgent questions: How does critical consciousness develop? What theories can be …

Implementing War Torts, Rebecca Crootof Jan 2023

Implementing War Torts, Rebecca Crootof

Law Faculty Publications

Under the law of armed conflict, no entity is accountable for lawful acts in war that cause harm, and accountability mechanisms for unlawful acts (like war crimes) rarely create a right to compensation for victims. Accordingly, states now regularly create bespoke institutions, like the proposed International Claims Commission for Ukraine, to resolve mass claims associated with international crises. While helpful for specific and politically popular populations, these one-off institutions have limited jurisdiction and thus limited effect. Creating an international “war torts” regime—which would establish route to compensation for civilians harmed in armed conflict—would better address this accountability gap for all …
