Study On The Effects Of Molecular Layer Deposition Coating And Mechanical Pressure On Lithium Metal Anodes, Cameron Mondl May 2026

Study On The Effects Of Molecular Layer Deposition Coating And Mechanical Pressure On Lithium Metal Anodes, Cameron Mondl

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Lithium (Li) metal is a highly promising anode material for next-generation energy storage systems due to its outstanding theoretical capacity and low electrochemical potential. However, its commercialization implementation has been hindered due to interfacial instability and uncontrollable dendrite formation, leading to poor cycling efficiency and thermal runaway. Among the most promising stabilization strategies, protective interfacial coatings have emerged as an effective solution to promote more uniform Li deposition and suppress erratic morphological inconsistencies. In particular, molecular layer deposition (MLD) enables uniform film thickness through layer-by-layer deposits, offering a highly versatile approach to protective interfacial layers. In addition to interfacial engineering, …

Genre Prediction Using Rnns And Llm-Enhanced Video Game Review Data, Gabriel Young May 2026

Genre Prediction Using Rnns And Llm-Enhanced Video Game Review Data, Gabriel Young

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

LLMs (Large Language Models) are powerful tools for engaging with textual data, carrying many advantages over classical NLP (Natural Language Processing) and ML (Machine Learning) approaches. However, a classical ML model can still be faster, more efficient to run, and accessible than an LLM. We seek to gain the benefits of LLM text comprehension and preserve them in a classical ML model, a hybrid approach. The LLM operates on text to surface relevant information and associations in our problem space, then the ML model trains on the LLM output. The model may learn from the LLM and provide a more …

Structural Relaxation In Glass-Forming Liquids At Extreme Pressure: Photon-Correlation Spectroscopy And Constrained Thermodynamic Surface Modeling, Kevin Wayne Lyon

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Structural relaxation in glass-forming liquids is strongly dependent on both temperature and pressure, yet direct measurement of structural α-relaxation under multi-gigapascal compression has remained experimentally challenging. This work extends depolarized photon correlation spectroscopy (DPCS) to pressures approaching 5 GPa in a diamond anvil cell, representing the highest-pressure implementation of this technique and enabling direct measurement of the structural α-relaxation in a pure liquid at extreme compression. This capability provides access to dynamical regimes previously unexplored by photon correlation spectroscopy and establishes a platform for probing glassy dynamics at high pressure. To describe these measurements, a constrained relaxation-time surface framework is …

Religion, Crime, And The Mediating Effects Of Social Control And Self-Control, Parker Bowman May 2026

Religion, Crime, And The Mediating Effects Of Social Control And Self-Control, Parker Bowman

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Past research on the relationship between religion and crime has found the two variables have a significant negative correlation. Currently, there are two main mechanisms used to explain this relationship: social control and self-control. Social control theorists argue that participation in religious organizations decreases criminal behaviors by increasing social bonds. Self-control theorists argue that religious norms and values decrease criminal behavior by increasing an individual's self-control. While both mechanisms have been well supported by research, there remains the question of which is the stronger mediator of the religion-crime relationship. This study seeks to answer this question by comparing the effects …

When Americans think of abolition and abolitionists, they most likely think of Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison or Harriet Tubman. Those names are associated with New England and Rochester, New York. Many accounts of abolitionism mention Buffalo, but only in passing. As a terminus on the Underground Railroad, Buffalo was on the route to freedom in Canada and played a vital role in the nation’s journey towards eliminating slavery. This thesis endeavors to discover the depth of abolitionist tendencies in Buffalo by looking at specific individuals and events between 1830 and 1860. There were politicians and trends that most likely …

The Effect Of Hydroflow Devices On Calcium Carbonate Buildup., Holton Shults May 2026

The Effect Of Hydroflow Devices On Calcium Carbonate Buildup., Holton Shults

Master of Engineering Theses

Water containing high levels of dissolved minerals, mainly calcium and magnesium, is known as hard water, which is commonly found across the world due to calcium’s abundance in the earth’s crust. Hard water can lead to calcium carbonate buildup (also referred to as limescale) that reduces flow, clogs pipes, and lowers heat exchanger efficiency, all of which can drive up costs. This work evaluated two commercially available chemical-free treatment devices from HydroFLOW USA LLC, called the Pearl Plus and s38 devices. These electromagnetic devices are designed to alter calcium carbonate crystal structure, potentially reducing the amount of calcium …

Simultaneous Carrier, Cargo, And Functional Tracking Of Lipid Nanoparticles, Hannia Vanessa Balcorta Muñoz

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have become effective delivery vehicles in nanomedicine, particularly for nucleic acid-based treatments. However, a major limitation remains in the field regarding the simultaneous monitoring of the nanoparticle carrier, its encapsulated payload, and the resulting functional protein production in both in vitro and in vivo systems. Furthermore, traditional lipophilic dyes employed for labeling LNPs frequently exhibit incompatibility with tissue-clearing methods, such as CLARITY, due to signal loss following lipid removal. This research developed and evaluated a new fluorescent labeling method using CM-DiI, a dye that reacts with thiols, for multimodal tracking of LNPs. CM-DiI was included in the …

We Are Still Lipan: Identity Erasure, Settler Colonialism, Historical Memory And The Persistence Of The Non-Reservation Lipan Apache, Freddy Cabral

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This dissertation challenges the long-standing historical narrative that the Lipan Apache disappeared in the late nineteenth century. Instead, it argues that the non-reservation Lipan Apache survived through strategic adaptation, mobility, kinship networks, and cultural continuity across the United States-Mexico borderlands. By examining the Lipan experience under Spanish colonial rule, Mexican governance, the Republic of Texas, and the State of Texas, this study demonstrates that shifting political regimes consistently pursued Indigenous land, labor, and subordination through structures of settler colonialism and racial hierarchy. Using the frameworks of settler colonialism, white supremacy, genocide studies, oral history, and autoethnography, this dissertation shows how …
