Radiation therapy (RT) is one of the most commonly used anticancer therapies. However, the landscape of cellular response to irradiation, especially to a single high-dose irradiation, remains largely unknown. In this study, we performed a whole-genome CRISPR loss-of-function screen and revealed temporal inherent and acquired responses to RT. Specifically, we found that loss of the IL1R1 pathway led to cellular resistance to RT. This is in part because of the involvement of radiation-induced IL1R1-dependent transcriptional regulation, which relies on the NF-κB pathway. Moreover, the mitochondrial anti-apoptotic pathway, particularly the BCL2L1 gene, is crucially important for cell survival after radiation. BCL2L1 …

Diffuse-type gastric adenocarcinoma (DGAC) is a deadly cancer often diagnosed late and resistant to treatment. While hereditary DGAC is linked to CDH1 mutations, the role of CDH1/E-cadherin inactivation in sporadic DGAC tumorigenesis remains elusive. We discovered CDH1 inactivation in a subset of DGAC patient tumors. Analyzing single-cell transcriptomes in malignant ascites, we identified two DGAC subtypes: DGAC1 (CDH1 loss) and DGAC2 (lacking immune response). DGAC1 displayed distinct molecular signatures, activated DGAC-related pathways, and an abundance of exhausted T cells in ascites. Genetically engineered murine gastric organoids showed that Cdh1 knock-out (KO), KrasG12D, Trp53 KO (EKP) accelerates tumorigenesis with immune evasion …

Examining The Effects Of Social Group Persecution And Traumatic Humiliation In Survivors Of Torture, Tilda Cvrkel

Clinical Psychology Dissertations

Refugees and asylum seekers account for 34.4 million people worldwide (UNHCR, 2021), and up to 40% of this population are survivors of torture (UNHCR, 2017). The Istanbul Protocol (United Nations, 2022) describes one of the explicit ends of torture as the severing of a person from their community, a breaking of their dignity and humanity. This may be done explicitly, through acts of traumatic humiliation. Traumatic humiliation includes acts such as forcing victims to eat religiously forbidden food, forced posing or touching others in culturally taboo sexual ways, forced nudity or clothing that reflects misgendering (such as “emasculating” clothing), widespread …

Given unmarketable private insurance policies and Medicaid’s spend down strategy, among other issues, the United States needs a feasible financing solution for long-term care.

In response to this challenge, Washington …

Labor Law’S Preemption Problem: Glacier Northwest And What The Fate Of Garmon Means For American Workers, Alexander S. Whistler Apr 2024

Labor Law’S Preemption Problem: Glacier Northwest And What The Fate Of Garmon Means For American Workers, Alexander S. Whistler

UC Law Journal

The Supreme Court’s 2022–2023 term was, unsurprisingly, terrible for millions of Americans. From the environment to affirmative action to student loan forgiveness, the Court remained committed to its project of reshaping the nation’s laws in its conservative image. But despite its well-demonstrated antipathy for organized labor, the Court in Glacier Northwest v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters managed to leave a long-standing, purportedly worker-friendly doctrine in federal labor law largely intact. Glacier Northwest presented the question of whether an employer may sue a union in state court for damages over a strike that allegedly causes property destruction, or whether, under the …

Multiply Alabama: Moving From Church Planting To Church Multiplication By Multiplying Leaders And Churches In The Alabama Ministry Network, David P. Strahan

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

The Alabama Ministry Network has had anemic success in planting over 150 churches since 1980. However, there has still been a ten percent decline in the total number of churches due to churches closing, churches withdrawing, or churches merging. This project studies how AMN can move from addition (church planting) to multiplication (church multiplication) to avoid further regression. The Biblical literature review examines the scriptural premise to multiply. It also discovers the church planting models of Jesus, the early church, and Paul The project used mixed research methods to develop a pathway towards church multiplication within AMN in four phases. …

Menossance ™: Post-Maternity Strategies, Elizabeth Pursell

Theses

Inside the private lives of middle-aged women, significant suffering unfolds in silence. The universal “change” is shrouded in shame. The obstacles particular to women during midlife include physical, emotional, financial, professional, familial, and societal. Many suffer through the indignities of menopause while adjusting to an “empty-nest” (Gullette, 2002, p.554). Droves of middle-aged women are also part of the so-called “Sandwich Generation” (Hong, 2002, p. 358). They are sandwiched between the responsibilities of their children and their elders, all while tenuously balancing careers and menopause. As described in Umma’s Table, “The sandwichgeneration [is] impossibly caught between multigenerational responsibilities, navigating labyrinthine sociomedical …
