Organizational Supports And School Climate, Wendy Kemling-Horner
Organizational Supports And School Climate, Wendy Kemling-Horner
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
School climate is the perceptions and attitudes that are evoked by a school’s environment and affects every aspect of the school surroundings. Therefore, it is essential that principals have the resources they need to positively affect the climate in their buildings. In fact, a positive school climate has been linked to not only the achievement of students, but also the satisfaction and retention of the school staff. A positive school climate does not come easily; instead, it is the result of significant devotion to the school’s safety, disciplinary environment, and the relationships between constituents.

Pennsylvania Principals’ Describe Their Work, Examined Through The Theory Of Transformational Leadership, Shannon O'Donnell
Pennsylvania Principals’ Describe Their Work, Examined Through The Theory Of Transformational Leadership, Shannon O'Donnell
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Being raised in a district composed of rural and suburban communities and later spending years teaching in urban and suburban school districts, I was able to define one key factor: successful students had one or more significant adult who provided them with meaningful guidance and support. For many, a classroom teacher and the experiences, mentorship, and compassion they provided happen to be that significant factor that changed the lives. I observed that as a classroom teacher, individuals are only responsible for designing instruction and activities, and regularly interacting with 20-30 students on a consistent basis. I felt that as an …

Role Of Social Media In Facilitating Organizational Socialization Effectiveness Among New Hires, Oluwatunmise Olaoluwa Okufuwa
Theses (2016-Present)
Texas Southern University, 2021 Professor Maurice Odine, Advisor ABSTRACT
Organizational Socialization is the process of inculcating corporate core values and culture in new hires (Jablin,1982). Notably, and contingent upon an organization's vision and aims, integration communication strategies can either be conventional or unconventional, structured, or unstructured. New hires get familiarized, incorporated, and adapted into an organization via a set of corporate procedures. To ease and ensure quick realignment, institutions craft guidelines, tools, structures, and offer mentorships. The processes and assigned support are made promptly accessible to new hires through the transition from pre-entry to entry and post-entry. The transition period …
Risk-Antecedents Of Firms And Strategic Mediators – New Evidence From A Cross-Country Analysis, Ranjan Dasgupta, Monika Dhochak
Risk-Antecedents Of Firms And Strategic Mediators – New Evidence From A Cross-Country Analysis, Ranjan Dasgupta, Monika Dhochak
American Business Review
We examine the strength and nature of firm aspiration and expectation as strategic mediators in the association of risk antecedents and firm risk, after exploring the possible impact of such antecedents on firm aspiration, and firm aspiration’s preliminary influence on firm risk. Empirical literature is mostly silent about risk antecedents of firms in an emerging market or cross-country context, and to the best of our knowledge, the mediators proposed in this study are yet to be explored. We report strong significant positive mediating effects of firm aspiration and expectation in association of risk antecedents and firm risk. Our results also …

Care For Our Common Home In Jesuit Higher Education: A Study Of The School Of Environmental Sustainability At Loyola University Chicago, Michael Polito
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
Environmental sustainability has become a critical issue for Catholic commitment to the common good in the twenty-first century. Both the Vatican and the Society of Jesus have spoken with urgency concerning the great educational challenges of forming new convictions and lifestyles in this regard. This paper chronicles the development of environmental sustainability initiatives at Loyola University Chicago within the context of institutional reforms from 2001 to the present. A consideration of these initiatives and environmental sustainability as both a set of operational and academic practices is undertaken with respect to social ethics in Catholic Jesuit higher education from the perspective …

This research focused on the extent of perceived effectiveness of the Scaled Agile Framework® on organizational outcomes, team management, stakeholder and customer management, management of emerging requirements and overall organizational …
(Wp 2021-04) John Tomer's Reconceptualization Of The Concept Of Human Capital, John B. Davis
(Wp 2021-04) John Tomer's Reconceptualization Of The Concept Of Human Capital, John B. Davis
Economics Working Papers
This chapter examines John Tomer’s contributions to our understanding of the concept of human capital. Tomer criticized the standard mainstream view of the concept as narrowly focused on education and training and as seeing investments in human capital as having “an individual, cognitive, and machine-like nature.” A broader concept included attention to the people’s noncognitive development, and employed both social capital and personal capital concepts. This produces a more expansive view of human development, allows for a humanistic psychological perspective, and supports a multi-dimensional, Maslovian understanding of the hierarchy of human needs. Tomer framed his policy thinking regarding investments in …

Leading At The Speed Of Learning: Superintendent Leadership Of P-12 Technology During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Dominick J. Lisi
Education Doctoral
COVID-19 significantly disrupted education in districts across New York State, forcing school administrators and stakeholders to respond to an unpredictable pattern of lockdowns and restrictions. As a result of the lockdowns, school districts transitioned to remote learning and a reliance upon digital learning technologies. Previous research has indicated numerous challenges superintendents face in implementing technology such as resistance to change or lack of adequate resources. With the onset of the pandemic and the transition to online learning, the luxury of implementing programs such as one-to-one computing became necessity. The goal of this study was to better understand how the application …
Adopting Doi In Legal Citation: A Roadmap For The Legal Academy, Valeri Craigle
Adopting Doi In Legal Citation: A Roadmap For The Legal Academy, Valeri Craigle
Utah Law Faculty Scholarship
A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique string of numbers, letters, and symbols used to identify web-based information assets such as articles, multimedia items, and datasets. A digital object minted with a DOI will be persistently discoverable through this identifier, as long as it lives on the Web.
DOIs are already ubiquitous in citations in the medical and scientific literature, primarily because the discovery of, access to, and linkages between the scholarship in these disciplines happens almost exclusively online. As is true with most content on the web, scholarly content in the sciences is published on multiple platforms and …

Exploring Communication Processes During Transitions From Acute Care To Skilled Nursing Facilities And Perceived Barriers To Communication, Marrizzia Oxford
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Background and Purpose of the Study: The need for skilled care and long-term care services often becomes necessary as the older adult transitions into the golden years. In the United States, more than 1.5 million adults live in long-term care facilities, with this number expected to double by 2050 (Johnson, Pope joy & Radina, 2010). Effective communication between the healthcare professionals who refer individuals from an acute care setting to a skilled nursing facility can be challenging and ultimately impact their transfer status and Plan of Care (POC) or plan of action implementation for meeting healthcare goals of the patient …

Mass Analysis And Raw Material Sourcing As Metrics Of Poverty Point's Socio-Political Organization, Jeffrey Lewis, Jr.
Master's Theses
Hypotheses about the socio-political organization of Poverty Point have each attempted to answer the procedures that led to the site’s construction and continued use. Mass analysis and raw material sourcing of the North Three excavation units offer an enhanced examination of the lithic activities of the Poverty Point site. These analyses provide new insight into how the site may have been utilized by those traveling to the site by assigning social values to the raw materials transported there. The results of this lithic analysis and comparison to previous investigations suggest a crucial activity that would have impacted the socio-political organization …

The Weight Of Scope, Pace, And Practices Of Organizational Change During Evaluations Of Acceptance Of Organizational Change, Lewis Schneider
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Understanding organizational change and the factors associated with it has become paramount as organizations face an increased need to adapt to stay competitive. Because of this necessity of organizational change, employee acceptance of this change is even more important to garner than ever before. The negative effects of organizational change, however, make this task difficult to accomplish. Although the literature points to scope of change, pace of change, and organizational practices as factors that can affect acceptance of organizational change, until this study, it was unknown which of these variables held the most weight in affecting attitudes towards change. In …

At first law schools saw an increase in applications and enrollment as individuals sought an education that would lead to employment. Within a few years, however, the job market for new lawyers deteriorated. By 2010-2011, the number of applications to law schools plummeted, as did the enrollment numbers. Since tuition is the life blood of law schools, the field of legal education was faced with an unprecedented crisis. This researcher collected and reviewed publicly available data to examine the changes that occurred in law schools …

Trauma Or Trapped: Conceptualizing Moral Suffering And The Impact Of Occupational Stigma, Chloe A. Wilson
All Dissertations
Moral suffering occurs when employees feel constrained by organizational factors that are perceived as conflicting with their values. Moral suffering has been conceptualized through moral distress and moral injury, and while both terms have conceptually similar definitions, no study to date has empirically examined the distinction between the constructs. Thus, the current study examined the distinction between moral injury and moral distress, and whether perceived occupational stigma was a moderator of the relationship between moral suffering and mental health symptoms, meaningful work, and counterproductive work behaviors. Participants were 479 adults from 20 industries, who were recruited from Mturk to participate …

Like many state transportation agencies, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) faces unprecedented challenges related to project development and management. Staff losses due to attrition and retirements have resulted in the loss of institutional knowledge. Early- to mid-career project managers (PMs) shoulder more responsibilities than ever while being expected to deliver over 600 successful projects each year. To improve the efficiency of project management, PMs must be able to access effective project management concepts, tools, and strategies which are field validated. Recognizing the importance of strengthening its project management capabilities, the Cabinet asked the Kentucky Transportation Center (KTC) to provide ongoing …

Resilience As An Organisational Capability: A Study Of How Firms Survive And Outperform In Disruptive Times, Dietmar Kappel
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
An environment, in which volatility and deep uncertainty represent the leading paradigm, pressures firms to focus their attention on adapting to disruptive environmental conditions. Although scholarly attention in the firm-level resilience construct has increased over the years, a number of important issues remain underexplored. To advance progress in the field, research is needed on the dimensions of resilient response formulation and enactment, the dimensions of the disruptive environment and situational factors as well as resilience as a latent outcome variable. Based on an in-depth, systematic review of the received literature, this thesis aims to extend the firm-level resilience literature by …

Pressure To Be Creative: How Employees Respond To Organizational Creativity Pressure, Hye Jung Eun
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
Creativity and innovation are vital for organizational growth and success, driving many organizations to increase pressure for employee creativity. Yet, researchers have neglected investigating how employees respond to creativity pressure at the workplace. This dissertation introduces and develops a new scale for the concept of organizational creativity pressure – the pressure on employees to continually develop novel and useful ideas and solutions. The scale is further validated through extensive assessment of content and construct validity, empirically differentiating the construct from similar others such as performance pressure and support for creativity.
Drawing on the transactional theory of stress (Lazarus & Folkman, …

Improving Therapeutic Communication In Mental Health Nursing: A Quality Improvement Project, Patricia A. Nill
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Over 46 million adults in the United States (U.S.) live with a mental illness. Locally in Nevada, the psychiatrist to patient ratio is approximately 700:1, and patients are seen primarily in the inpatient setting, if seen at all, due to the wait average of 85 hours in the hospital emergency rooms for access into mental health hospitals or specialty units of a general hospital. Moreover, costs for mental health mood disorders alone are estimated at over seven million dollars annually. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) opined the need for change in healthcare to redesign practice and clinical communication with patients …

Developing Strategic Partnerships To Impact Population Health: A Professional Development Module, Andra S. Scano
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Massive organizational changes occurring in our health care delivery system have provided opportunities for nurse leaders who think in terms of population health, to develop new skills needed to impact the populations they serve. Aspects of these changes include a focus on the delivery of primary and community-based care and the development of partnerships, alliances, and other linkages across settings to build integrated systems (Williams, 2020, p. 17). Turner (2020) asserts that population-focused nurse leaders are charged with creating a new future for healthier communities which often involves strategic partnership development. However, strategic partnership development is a complex task that …
An Intervention To Improve Nurses’ Knowledge, Perceived Safety, And Confidence In Identifying And Managing Workplace Violence: A Translation Of Evidence Into Practice, Kayla Sullivan
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that over two million workers are victims of workplace violence (WPV) (Papa, 2013). Registered nurses are subjected to high risk for workplace violence from patients and visitors, with 25.5% reporting at least one victimization incident (Gillespie et al., 2013). Research indicates that WPV has a significant impact on nurses' quality of working life, job satisfaction levels, turnover rates and has also been shown to negatively impact efficiency and productivity (Gacki-Smith et al., 2009). ED nurses are at substantial occupational risk for workplace violence. Emergency departments have been identified as areas within the …

The opioid epidemic is a national health emergency in the United States, with over 128 people dying each day due to an opioid overdose. It is estimated that 4.3 million people over the age of 12 use opioids without a medical need, and 1.3 million youth ages 12-17 use opioids inappropriately. Drug overdose deaths have become the leading cause of accidental death in the United States, prompting the U.S. Surgeon General and the World Health Organization to advise that more Americans have access to naloxone and understand how to use this life-saving drug correctly. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist, used …
An Ounce Of Prevention: What Promotes Crisis Readiness And How Does It Drive Firm Performance?, John A. Parnell
An Ounce Of Prevention: What Promotes Crisis Readiness And How Does It Drive Firm Performance?, John A. Parnell
American Business Review
Organizations develop crisis readiness to avoid and mitigate crises. This study investigates several factors that influence crisis readiness, including market dynamism, perceived likelihood of a crisis (PLC), and firm size. It also evaluates the impact of crisis readiness on firm performance. Results from a PLS-SEM assessment of 301 managers in the United States suggest that market dynamism drives firm performance while heightening both PLC and crisis readiness. When compared to large organizations, managers in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) reported higher PLC but lower crisis readiness, underscoring the challenges faced by small firms regarding crisis preparation. Crisis readiness was also …

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
This paper explores the re-envisioning of a school of social work into a School of Social Work and Social Justice. The thought experiment identifies how a school can meet its educational and social justice mission in response to the historic crises of 2020. An outgrowth of the aspirational strategic vision statement is the proposed strengthening of democratic learning spaces involving students and faculty members, better alignment of school curricular reform with human service workforce dynamics and social work practice needs, and an emphasis on culturally responsive leadership. The overall intention is to identify opportunities for social work schools and departments …
