A Study Of The Association Of Teacher Efficacy And Students' Achievement In A North Texas School District, Ruth E. Schackmann
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The field of education places great importance on measurable student achievement and the role of teaching competencies for maximizing success. Whereas much focus has been given to professional development and improving teachers’ skills, this quantitative study examined whether teachers' self-efficacy and judgment about their skills and capabilities were significantly associated with improving student achievement in third grade reading. This dissertation involved a study of teacher self-efficacy using a sample group of third grade English/Language Arts teachers from one Texas urban school district. Targeted teachers were invited to complete a valid and reliable teacher efficacy survey, the Tschannen-Moran and Woolfolk Hoy …

Washington Street Baptist Church: Training Leaders For Community Outreach, Latasha Fabrae Culkin
Washington Street Baptist Church: Training Leaders For Community Outreach, Latasha Fabrae Culkin
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This DMIN action research thesis aims to create and implement additional leadership training for those who have completed prior leadership training, explicitly addressing community outreach, the purpose of the church, the outside culture, and the disciplines of a church leader. When Christian leaders go outside the church, connect with the culture, model an authentic Christian life, and use their gifts, the church is influential. When the Christian leader works in the secular arena with people who are not saved, and when the Christian leaders take their skills and training outside the four walls, they change that working community for Christ. …

Trauma-Informed Practices And Their Effects On Student Behaviors, Stephanie Haman
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
There is a growing number of educators, schools, and parents that are looking to trauma-informed practices as beneficial to educating the whole child. This literature review aimed to explore if whether implementing these practices is worth the time and money needed to achieve the full benefits of these programs. Database websites were used to gather peer reviewed journal articles for the researched information in this literature review. When creating trauma-informed schools there are significant challenges that come into play such as the cost of implementation and taking away instructional time to implement said practices. However, the current findings of this …
Re-Educating Healthcare Workers In Long-Term Care Facilities To Improve Hand Hygiene Compliance, Jennifer A. Ukeje
Re-Educating Healthcare Workers In Long-Term Care Facilities To Improve Hand Hygiene Compliance, Jennifer A. Ukeje
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Hand hygiene is one of the most significant measures for protecting nursing home residents from healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). An estimated 1.6 million to 3.8 million infections occur each year; of these infections, 32% of all healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are urinary tract infections (UTI), 15% are pneumonia (lung infection), and 14% are bloodstream infections. The high incidence of HAIs in nursing homes is due to multiple factors such as understaffing, inadequately trained staff, staff to resident ratio, lack of antibiotics stewardship, and the increasing clinical complexity of the average nursing home. In addition, most long- term care (LTC) residents are older …

Fall Prevention: The First Line Of Defense. Integration Of Innovated Strategies To Decrease Falls For The Hospitalized Patient, Milledge Smalls
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Falling is defined as an accidental encounter with the ground or other surfaces. Individuals with dementia are at a greater risk for falls due to conditions such as neurological impairments in perception or cognition. Presently, 50 million people live with dementia worldwide, which is projected to increase to 152 million by 2050 because of a rise in life expectancy and an aging population. The incidence of falls has rapidly become a major public health problem around the world. Approximately 30% of people older than 65 years of age fall each year, and patients with dementia cost the nation $236 …

Poetic Justice: A Counter-Narrative Of The First Black Male Principal In A Coastal Community Since The Desegregation Era, Adrian Anthony
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Entering a new school as a new principal, and the first black male administrator in a community since the desegregation era, was fraught with challenges that have a universal cadence. Additionally, the three-year school turnaround initiative I entered had its own unique barriers. My voice quivers, my head sinks low, my eyes averted but this no more, for I uphold the mantle of men of bronze, for I will lead within this challenge and my voice will go on (Anthony, 2020). Using critical race theory as a framework with counter-storytelling I examined leadership and different forms of racial and gender …

This paper presents a study on the Conflict of Generations in the Workplace. We live in a period of rapid change, and much knowledge about the incorporation of young people into the labour force has been widely disseminated. According to literature theories, they are called Generation Y. But we must remember the existence of previous generations inserted in the same desktop, they are: Veterans, Baby Boomers and Generation X. Each generation has a perception, and different expectations which can cause conflicts, this subject has been studied by many researchers. The scientific study was based on a theoretical study by several …

The Nature And Role Of Perceived Threats In User Resistance To Healthcare Information Technology: A Psychological Reactance Theory Perspective, Madison N. Ngafeeson, Joseph A. Manga
Information Systems Faculty Publications
The efforts of the United States government in the past 15 years have included harnessing the power of health information technology (HIT) to improve legibility, lessen medical errors, keep costs low, and elevate the quality of healthcare. However, user resistance is still a barrier to overcome in order to achieve desired outcomes. Understanding the nature of resistance is key to successfully increasing the adoption of HIT systems. Previous research has showed that perceived threats are a significant antecedent of user resistance; however, its nature and role have remained vastly unexplored. This study uses the psychological reactance theory to explain both …

The Death Of An Academic Department: Sense-Losing And Sacred Loss, Diane D. Walsh, Kathy D. Richardson, Marie Tylsova, William Guri, Ian Tucker Brown, Kari O'Grady Ph.D.
Journal of Catholic Education
An unexpected academic department closure can be deeply unsettling to many stakeholders. Department closure is typically intended to be a cost-saving measure; however, department closure can be a difficult, time-consuming process with unexpected consequences. This study takes a hermeneutical phenomenological approach to explore the impact of the closure of an academic department. Participants were enrolled in one of the department’s academic programs at the time of the closure announcement and during data collection. Results indicated that participants sanctified the department, a process in which persons instill an object or aspect of their lives with spiritual significance (Pargament, Magyar, Benore, & …

Site Supervisors' Perspectives On Supervision Of Counselor Trainees In Integrated Behavioral Health (Ibh) Settings: A Q Methodology Approach, Yeşim Giresunlu
Counseling & Human Services Theses & Dissertations
Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) is an integrated care approach where primary care and mental health providers work together to address the medical and behavioral health needs of the patients, or clients (Unützer et al., 2012). An increasing number of clinical mental health counselors are providing services in IBH settings and experiencing challenges with navigating unique aspects of their work in these complex systems. Clinical supervision in these settings appears as a critical resource for mental health counselor trainees (supervisees). However, we have very limited knowledge on clinical supervision provided to supervisees at IBH settings. An exploration of site supervisors’ supervision …

The Importance Of Strategic Communication For Building Employee Resource Groups In Aviation, Lynnette Darnell
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In this qualitative case study, the research explores the importance of strategic communication for building employee resource groups in aviation, specifically at a regional airline. To expand and develop knowledge regarding employee resource groups, the researcher looks at a widely distributed workforce to understand how the lack of strategically planned communication can impact employee resource group development and employee engagement. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and a focus group of the employee resource group members, which provided insight on their experience engaging with the employee resource groups, preferred communication methods and tools, and their perception of leadership involvement. …
Micropolitical Influences On Teacher Leader Selection & Enactment, Jennifer Lynn Arthur Thomason
Micropolitical Influences On Teacher Leader Selection & Enactment, Jennifer Lynn Arthur Thomason
Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
The teacher leader phenomenon is plagued with uncertainty but has potential to be a catalyst for building school capacity and increasing school improvement. Questions remain about defining teacher leadership, roles of teacher leaders, and how they carry out a quasi-leadership role in a traditionally hierarchical system. Research on micropolitics in education, specifically how micropolitical influences within an organization affect teacher leader selection and enactment, is lacking. This phenomenologically informed study explored micropolitical influences on teacher leader selection and enactment through the shared experiences of teacher leaders and administrators. Purposeful, criterion sampling was used to select administrator and teacher leader participants. …

Profiles And Culture: Multi-Level Latent Profiles Based On Personality Traits And Facets And Profile Influences On Performance Outcomes Across Cultures, Weiwei Liu
Theses and Dissertations
Personality research has traditionally adopted a variable-centric approach but recently more studies have adopted a person-centric approach. A person-centric approach can provide additional insights in that it explores for multiple unobserved subgroups within a population and examines the extent to which relationships may differ across subgroups. The current study adds to this growing area in four ways. First, studies have attempted to identify common personality profiles, but results have been inconsistent and very few studies have examined work-relevant samples. The current study addresses this issue based on a large sample that is diverse in terms of industries, occupations, and countries. …
Creating Conditions For Collaboration: A Case Study On Design-Based Professional Learning, Leslie A. Lehner
Creating Conditions For Collaboration: A Case Study On Design-Based Professional Learning, Leslie A. Lehner
Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
Design thinking is a process for solving complex problems through creative actions. There are three primary ways design thinking is being used in education today: (a) as a teaching tool, (b) as a strategy for teachers to redesign their students’ learning experiences, and (c) as a tool for school leaders to design school change (Gallagher & Thordarson, 2018). Design thinking includes a strong emphasis on team-based learning regarding the problem and possible solutions (Lindberg et al., 2010). This case study describes one school’s approach to navigating complex challenges, inspiring school change, and developing conditions for meaningful collaboration using a design …

Examining The Factors Influencing The Achievement Of It-Business Alignment In A Developing Economy: Evidence From Ghanaian Public Universities, Dickson Ofosu, Acheampong Owusu, Richard Boateng
The African Journal of Information Systems
The purpose of this study was to qualitatively assess the state of information technology (IT) business alignment among Ghanaian universities and to identify factors that influence the achievement of four key dimensions of the concept. Studies show that factors influencing the achievement of the concept remain underexplored and research coverage for both developing economies and the higher education sector trails behind other sectors and developed economies. A two-round online Delphi technique was employed to elicit responses from personnel in IT leadership positions using Schlosser et al. (2012) alignment dimensions model as a lens. Findings suggest that IT investment is often …

Transforming Business Education: 21st Century Sustainable Mba Programs, Robert Sroufe, Stuart L. Hart, Hunter Lovins
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
Business education should give students the skills to solve complex global challenges. It should align management practices with goals for a sustainable future. Sadly, few management schools even discuss the real issues business leaders face today. This article challenges others to develop a curriculum that embeds sustainability in the core of their programs. The authors argue that faculty and business school leadership should move beyond “saddlebag” initiatives that bolt sustainability onto the traditional, shareholder primacy-driven core. This article profiles three programs as case studies transforming business education to prepare leaders to achieve a more sustainable world. Business schools are torn …

Learning From Past Policy: Assessing United States Foreign Policy Over Indonesia In Resolving The 1999 East Timor Crisis, Sigit S. Nugroho
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
Assessing the output of past foreign policy is instrumental for any country to learn policy-relevant insights, to appreciate its experience, and to improve its future conduct. To glean such insights, this article borrows Baldwin’s framework in assessing the success and failure in foreign policy. Using a case study analysis, it assesses the United States’ (U.S.) influence attempt towards Indonesia to resolve the 1999 East Timor humanitarian crisis. President Clinton’s decision to undergo an influence attempt primarily aimed to change Indonesia’s policy while gaining support from U.S. allies in the process. The article finds that Clinton’s decision was a highly successful …

The Impact Of Management Control On Public Sector Organizations In Indonesia, Reny Maharani
Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia
Using motivation crowding and self-determination theories, this study examines the relationship between elements of management control, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and the performance of public sector organizations in Indonesia. We used the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with a survey method on 187 employees of district/city governments in Indonesia to see if results, action, personnel, and cultural controls have an effect on employee motivation. Our study provides empirical evidence that motivation is influenced not only by results control, but also by other control elements such as action control and personnel control. This study also provides empirical evidence that intrinsic and extrinsic …
