Classifıcation Of Survivor/Non-Survivor Passengers In Fatal Aviation Accidents: A Machine Learning Approach, Tüzün Tolga İnan Dr.

International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace

The safety concept primarily examines the most fatal (resulting in dead passengers) accidents of aviation history in this study. The primary causes of most fatal accidents are; human, technical, and sabotage/terrorism factors. Although the aviation industry started with the first engine flight in 1903, the safety concept has been examined since the 1950s. The safety concept firstly examined the technical factors, and in the late 1970s, human factors started to analyze. Despite these primary causes, there have different factors that affect accidents. So, the study aims to determine the affecting factors of the most fatal accidents to classify the survivor/non-survivor …

Optimization Of Lean And Agile Supply Chain Management Practices In The Aviation Industry, Constantine M. Koursaris, Valerie P. Denney

International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace

Organizations that provide products and/or services must be able to execute fast, adaptive supply and (fluctuating) demand practices. From producers to consumers, and every stakeholder involved throughout the supply chain network processes, a collaborative relationship promotes sharing information that is beneficial to all. This long-term relationship then flourishes and in return stimulates the growth, health, and stability of the supply chain. Understanding the organizational processes and requirements is a complex endeavor. However, with technological advances and with the right type of data collected, it is possible to optimize entire supply chain networks.

This research study, seeks to provide an insight …

Organizational Barriers To Effective University Student Mental Health Services, Felicia Evans-Edwards

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This study was focused on organizational barriers to effective university student mental health services access in the department of student resources (DSR) at a for-profit university in the northeastern United States. Once such barriers are addressed, faculty may be more successful in reaching out to students needing mental health services who are not self-identifying as needing these services. The Baldrige excellence framework guided this descriptive case study to examine the organizational barriers that prevent university leadership from creating clear policies and procedures for faculty to refer students to mental health services. Data sources included interviews with the behavioral health leader …

Transformational It Leaders And Digital Innovation: The Moderating Effect Of Formal It Governance, Linda M. Pittenger, Nicholas Berente, James Gaskin

Faculty Publications

Does formal IT governance encourage innovation in the traditional domains of the IT function at the expense of new forms of “digital” innovation? We report on a study of 158 IT managers and leaders to understand the conditions under which transformational IT leadership can drive innovation in traditional forms of IT, as well as in the emerging “digital” domain. We find that highly formal IT governance practices can reduce ability of transformational IT managers and leaders to innovate in both domains, and this effect is greater for digital innovation. In stable cultures the moderation effect was strengthened, while insignificant in …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Background: Laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation are routine procedures that occur within the surgical setting. Fentanyl is currently administered for attenuating the hemodynamic response to intubation. Opioid-sparing alternatives have been identified with aims of improving patient outcomes, such as esmolol. Purpose: The project’s purpose was designed to improve anesthesia provider familiarity, perception, and consideration of esmolol as a non-narcotic alternative for attenuating the hemodynamic response to intubation and prompt an increase of esmolol administration within this setting. Interventions: Surveys were conducted before and after an educational in-service, offered to anesthesia providers, demonstrating esmolol as an efficacious alternative to fentanyl. Additionally, an …

The Role Of Motivation In Community Partner Perceptions Of Service-Learning, Jayda P. Felder Jan 2022

The Role Of Motivation In Community Partner Perceptions Of Service-Learning, Jayda P. Felder

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

The current study sought to determine how community partners’ varying motivations for participating in collegiate service-learning programs relates to their perceptions of service-learning. Prior research has demonstrated a plethora of positive outcomes for students who partake in courses with service-learning requirements, but research investigating the outcomes for the organizations that host these students is less common, and research investigating the link between their motives and perceptions is nonexistent. Based on this gap in the literature, the quantitative, evidence-based Perceptions of Service-Learning Scale was developed for the current study to assess how community partners perceive their experiences with service-learning across four …

Supporting Teacher Retention Through A Trauma-Informed Lens, Nicole C. Reddig Jan 2022

Supporting Teacher Retention Through A Trauma-Informed Lens, Nicole C. Reddig

Honors Theses

This thesis explores the relationship between trauma-informed practices and teacher burnout and turnover. For the past decade, schools across the United States have seen high levels of burnout and turnover amongst their educators. At the same time, young children are experiencing high levels of exposure to traumatic events in childhood, affecting their behavior, social and emotional health, and ability to learn. While teachers play an important role in the support system for these students, they are also at risk for experiencing secondary trauma and burnout. To mitigate the effects of trauma, trauma-informed practices have been introduced in schools to respond …

Effects Of Icts On The Terms Of Trade Of Sub-Saharan African Economies, Fabrice Nzepang, Saturnin Bertrand Nguenda Anya Jan 2022

Effects Of Icts On The Terms Of Trade Of Sub-Saharan African Economies, Fabrice Nzepang, Saturnin Bertrand Nguenda Anya

Journal of African Trade

Abstract This paper argues that the increasing adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is a factor that improves the terms of trade of sub-Saharan African (SSA) economies. According to new theories of international trade, ICTs can change the terms of trade by increasing productivity, reducing costs, and increasing human capital endowment and specialization. Here, we use World Development Indicators (WDI) and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) data over the period from 2005 to 2017 and a vector autoregression (VAR) model on a panel of 39 SSA countries to illustrate the importance of ICTs in this regard. …

Law Enforcement Motivations For Establishing Real-Time Crime Centers: A Mixed Model Study, Frank Linton Jan 2022

Law Enforcement Motivations For Establishing Real-Time Crime Centers: A Mixed Model Study, Frank Linton

Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023

Law enforcement agencies across the United States are establishing real-time crime centers (RTCCs) at a rapid rate, yet research exploring the decisions to establish them is lacking. This study therefore attempts to fill that void by using a mixed methods approach to examine whether adaptive organizational theories, consisting of contingency theory (Lawrence & Lorsch, 1967; Woodward, 1965), resource dependency theory (Pfeffer & Salancik, 1978), and institutional theory (DiMaggio & Powell 1991; Meyer & Rowan, 1977), can be used to explain a law enforcement agency's decision to set up an RTCC. This cross-sectional mixed methods design comprised two different studies (Study …

Fractal Dimension As A Predictor Of Organizational Change Success, Thomas Anthony Seitz Jan 2022

Fractal Dimension As A Predictor Of Organizational Change Success, Thomas Anthony Seitz

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

As many as two thirds of organizational change (OC) initiatives fail to achieve their outcome objectives. Researchers have demonstrated that successful change requires alignment among all levels of an organization. However, contemporary OC models do not quantify the degree of hierarchical alignment during the change process. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to examine whether the fractal dimension of hierarchical alignment (predictor variable) was associated with OC success (criterion variable) as described by the self-organizing fractal theory (SOFT). The research question addressed the association between the fractal dimension related to the alignment of OC beliefs and behavioral intentions …

Operationalizing The Vision Of Catholic Social Thought Using Change Management, Stephanie Ann Y. Puen Jan 2022

Operationalizing The Vision Of Catholic Social Thought Using Change Management, Stephanie Ann Y. Puen

Theology Department Faculty Publications

In Catholic social thought, magisterial documents emphasize the “See, Judge, Act” method in reflecting on social issues. While action is an important aspect of this methodology, aspects of Catholic social thought, as seen in the teaching of magisterial documents, has focused primarily on principles and the “judge” part of the method, where one reflects on the current social context in light of Catholic social thought and gospel values. This paper reminds Catholic social thought of the importance of obtaining the commitment of the people within the community in order to put Catholic social thought principles into practice structurally and that …

Relationship Between Police Officers’ Sleep Quality, Burnout From Shift Work, And Intention To Leave Law Enforcement, Misty Ladd Jan 2022

Relationship Between Police Officers’ Sleep Quality, Burnout From Shift Work, And Intention To Leave Law Enforcement, Misty Ladd

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Occupational stressors in police work are abundant, and high rates of attrition make the recruiting and maintaining of a qualified force challenging. The increased risks that overnight officers face with regard to their mental and/or physical health warrant further research to ensure that burnout does not interfere with officers’ well-being or performance. The purpose of this quantitative nonexperimental study was to examine whether sleep quality for police officers involved in shift work leads to burnout or the intention to leave law enforcement. Shift work theory and Kundi’s destabilization theory provided the framework for the study. Archival data from 212 police …

Administrative Leaders’ Experiences With Information Communication Technology Platforms And Best Practices In Smart Schools, Byron B. Jackson Jan 2022

Administrative Leaders’ Experiences With Information Communication Technology Platforms And Best Practices In Smart Schools, Byron B. Jackson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Administrative leaders in traditional schools have failed to manage resources, implement best practices, and successfully integrate information communication technology (ICT) platforms into K-12 programs. The purpose of this qualitative, transcendental phenomenological study was to explore and discover the lived experiences of administrative leaders who have been successful in their integration of ICT platforms and best practices in K-12 smart schools. This study was framed by two concepts: (a) building digital capacity in smart schools and (b) ICT platforms integration in smart schools. Both concepts were theoretically grounded in social cognitive theory and system theory. Data were collected in semi structured …

Strategies For Reducing Occupational Stress On Cabin Crewmembers In The Airline Industry, Wendy N. Lindsey Jan 2022

Strategies For Reducing Occupational Stress On Cabin Crewmembers In The Airline Industry, Wendy N. Lindsey

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Occupational stress threatens airline cabin crew and passengers’ health and safety. Airline leaders who lack strategies to address occupational stress may experience adverse impacts on cabin crew health, organizational efficiency, and overall aviation safety. Grounded in the job demands-resources theory, the purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies that upper-level airline leaders used to reduce occupational stress on cabin crewmembers. The participants were five upper-level airline leaders with more than 10 years of airline experience. Data were collected via semistructured interviews, organizational documents, and company records. Three themes emerged from Yin’s five-step approach: inflight training for generating …

The results of the multiple linear regression were significant …

Comparison Between Hospital Ownerships In The Prevention Of Surgical Site Infections, Kameha Johnson Jan 2022

Comparison Between Hospital Ownerships In The Prevention Of Surgical Site Infections, Kameha Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractMillions of Americans seek health care for surgical interventions throughout the United States. Despite the 2010 Affordable Health Reform Act, hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are still rising. Specifically, surgical site infections (SSIs) are a national problem in both non-profit and for-profit hospitals. SSIs are the third most commonly reported HAIs and account for 14%-16% of HAIs among U.S. patients. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine an association between the independent variable of the type of hospital ownership (i.e., non-profit and for-profit), and SSI rates, health care utilization cost (i.e., readmission rates and LOS), and patient outcome measures (i.e., …

The Efficacy Of Barcoded Medication Administration In The Emergency Department, Aleksandr Vasserman Jan 2022

The Efficacy Of Barcoded Medication Administration In The Emergency Department, Aleksandr Vasserman

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The practice problem addressed in this Doctor of Nursing Practice project was safe medication administration in the emergency department (ED). Paper-based delivery of medication administration is prone to errors and multiple points of failure affecting patients’ safety. The gap in nursing practice was the lack of analysis regarding the efficacy of the barcoded medication administration (BCMA) process in the ED. The practice-focused question for this project addressed whether the implementation of BCMA in the ED effectively reduced medication administration errors as compared to the previously used paper-based, non-BCMA process. The aim of this doctoral project was to review the efficacy …
