Improving Septic Patient Outcomes Through A Nurse-Led Quality Improvement Project In A Rural, Midwestern Hospital, Allyssa C. Sweers
Improving Septic Patient Outcomes Through A Nurse-Led Quality Improvement Project In A Rural, Midwestern Hospital, Allyssa C. Sweers
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Sepsis is a complex and costly problem that continues to afflict hospitals across the globe (Napolitano, 2018). If it is not identified quickly and treated promptly, sepsis will progress to septic shock and create an increased risk of mortality (Napolitano, 2018). The best way to improve patient outcomes is through early detection and precise treatment (Rello, Valenzuela-Sánchez, Ruiz-Rodriguez, & Moyano, 2017). Through staff education and clinical decision tools, such as checklists, septic patients are more likely to have a favorable outcome (Storozuk, MacLeod, Freeman, & Banner, 2019). The purpose of this DNP project was to decrease fluid resuscitation fallouts and …
Addressing Mental Health Of Hospitality Employees: An Exploratory Study, Chase Izell
Addressing Mental Health Of Hospitality Employees: An Exploratory Study, Chase Izell
Management Undergraduate Honors Theses
Exacerbated by a global pandemic, mental health challenges within hospitality professionals are an area of growing prevalence and concern for the industry. Historically unaddressed, these issues are continuing to impact the morale of essential talent which is promoting a culture of turnover that defines the industry today. Aside from the direct costs incurred by voluntary employee termination, the indirect costs to workplace culture and guest satisfaction have furthered the overall financial impact of a largely untreated problem. The objective of this research is to provide evidence of declining mental health in the hospitality industry while illuminating the key contributors to …
A Qualitative Study Of The Collaborative Relationships Between District Leaders And School Principals In High-Performing And Low-Performing Schools Within A Single High-Performing School District, Shaunna Pierrelee
Doctoral Dissertations
Research on effective collaborative relationships between district leaders and school principals have shown to exhibit characteristics that positively impact student achievement. Characteristics such as reciprocal communication, shared decision making, intensive support, and quality professional learning opportunities are repeated in literature. Therefore, this qualitative case study examined whether there are differences in collaborative relationships between district leaders and school principals in high-performing and low-performing schools within a single school district based on those common characteristics. The following research questions guided the current study: (a) What are the differences, if any, in communication between district leaders and principals of high- and low-performing …

A Qualitative Study Identifying Perspectives, Experiences, And Needs Of School Principals And Teachers To Lead A Culture Of Differentiated Teaching And Learning, Natalie Gray Pope
Doctoral Dissertations
Differentiated instruction is defined as providing all students access to the same set of curricula while at the same time providing tasks and instruction tailored to a student’s specific learning style. This expectation has led researchers to study and understand differentiated instruction for embedded applications across all classroom and district experiences, public perceptions, and effective implementation of future trends. However, there is a gap in literature addressed by this study relating to the leadership of differentiated instruction in school settings.
Data for this study were collected from school principals and classroom teachers using both virtual and face-to-face interviews, documented field …

Science Instructional Leadership Knowledge: A Qualitative Case Study, Mary Ann Chapman
Doctoral Dissertations
This qualitative case study aimed to investigate instructional leaders’ depths of science content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge and how their depths of that knowledge supports effective instructional leadership. Implementation efforts around the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) have highlighted the need for science instructional leaders to have in-depth content and pedagogical knowledge to function as effective instructional leaders in secondary science classrooms across the United States. Semi-structured interviews with 19 teachers and instructional leaders in a public high school in the southern United States informed the study. The findings revealed that teachers expect instructional leaders to have higher levels …

The purpose of this research was to create a Culture of Assessment Instrument (Appendix F) that will allow education program provider (EPP) assessment leaders to measure the assessment culture within their program. General Systems Theory was the theoretical framework as the foundation of this research. Using a modified Delphi panel of assessment leaders, the researcher developed a valid Culture of Assessment Instrument (Appendix F). A key finding is that the instrument accurately reflects the culture of assessment, as evidenced in a pilot study. Leaders can use this instrument to measure the culture of assessment within an EPP undergoing change to …

Job Satisfaction Through The Lens Of Turnover Intentions And Burnout For Academic Faculty, Amrita Tharappel Thomas
Business Administration Dissertations - Archive
ABSTRACT: A recent advice article published by The Chronicle of Higher Education addressed how Tenure and Tenure-Track faculty members are leaving their academic positions at college and universities. Education underwent tremendous change due to the COVID-19 Pandemic as faculty had to transition from in-person lectures and laboratory classes to teaching all classes and lectures in a virtual format and then a hybrid between in-person and online. The changes caused by the Pandemic came swiftly but did not come with ease. My dissertation examines Job Satisfaction through the lens of Turnover Intentions and Burnout for Academic Faculty. I surveyed faculty around …
Performance-Based Funding In Texas: Sensemaking Experiences Of Administrators At Hispanic-Serving Community Colleges, Kathleen Elizabeth Launius
Performance-Based Funding In Texas: Sensemaking Experiences Of Administrators At Hispanic-Serving Community Colleges, Kathleen Elizabeth Launius
Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Dissertations - Archive
Despite the expansive literature on higher education performance-based funding (PBF) policies, there is an oversaturation of quantitative studies focused on measuring metric performance at the statewide level. These studies have largely found that PBF fails to meet its goal of improving graduation rates and has unintended consequences for historically underserved student populations (e.g., Black, Latinx/a/o, low-income) and under-resourced institutions (e.g., community colleges, minority-serving institutions). Further, the limited qualitative studies have revealed widespread positive attitudes and institutional changes at the campus level in the early stages of policy implementation. However, the literature fails to critically examine campus-based attitudes and experiences over …
Police Education And Its Influence On Traffic Enforcement Performance, Shatavia Monique Kennedy
Police Education And Its Influence On Traffic Enforcement Performance, Shatavia Monique Kennedy
Masters Theses
In demanding occupations, the preference for formal education is presumptive when improving competency and workmanship. This study assesses the correlation between college education and traffic enforcement performance within a local police department in Aberdeen, North Carolina. In this study, performance strictly refers to issued traffic citations and traffic enforcement. The research consisted of a secondary analysis (public records) using qualitative data. Data were collected to determine which officers issued the most traffic citations from the highway patrol unit from January to June 2021. Second, qualitative data were collected via an interview with one of the department officers to obtain demographic …

Creative Processes Among Hrd Professionals, Briana L. Mesick
Creative Processes Among Hrd Professionals, Briana L. Mesick
University Honors Program Senior Projects
Creativity is a required element for training and development (T&D) professionals to create successful learning initiatives. While research has noted how T&D professionals engage in creative practices, little research has been conducted regarding how their creative processes were developed. This study uncovered how T&D professionals first developed their creative processes through 1) their perception of creativity; 2) development of their creative processes when they first started as a T&D professional; 3) application of creativity in developing successful T&D interventions; and 4) use of the creative process to get back on track when facing a difficult project. Focusing on how HRD …
Regulating Marginalized Labor, Mary Hoopes
Regulating Marginalized Labor, Mary Hoopes
UC Law Journal
Farmworkers are one of many vulnerable groups who exist largely in the shadows of the law. While there is a relatively robust regulatory framework that ostensibly governs the conditions under which they work, it is highly fragmented and seldom enforced. One agency, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), has emerged as an important exception, adopting innovative strategies to secure substantial settlements and a wide range of injunctive relief. Decades before contemporary movements on behalf of low-wage workers of color began, the EEOC was mounting an initiative to bring farmworkers into the core of Title VII’s protections and jurisprudence. Drawing upon …

Going Virtual: Addressing The Challenges Faced By Organizational Leaders When Employees Transition To Virtual Environments In Times Of Crisis, Mary Susan Johnson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges and universities across the world moved their operations online. While a great deal of focus was placed on the value of teaching and learning during a crisis period, very little attention was paid to the other side of higher education institutions—the business side. Suddenly these institutions and their operational staff were forced to discover new ways to perform tasks that had always been completed in person. The leaders of these organizations faced the added challenge of ensuring that their workforce remained engaged and motivated while working in the midst of stressful, even chaotic …

Oh, The Place You’Ll Go: The Effects Of Commuting Time On Work, Family, And Health Related Outcomes, Lauren Kistler
All Theses
People spend a majority of their lives working and commuting is an essential part of most workers’ daily schedule. According to the 2017 American Community Survey distributed by the U.S. Census Bureau, the average commute for Americans is approximately 27 minutes. Time spent commuting has increased in recent decades (Denstadli et al., 2017; Gimenez-Nadal & Molina, 2019; Hoehner et al., 2012; Künn‐Nelen, 2016). Commuting to work is often a source of stress for workers, and its detrimental impacts are a rising public health issue as well as an area of concern for occupational health psychologists. Commuting is not considered a …

The Grand Re-Opening Of The American Summer Camp: Determinants Of Camp Innovation During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Leslie Anne Doone
Master's Theses and Capstones
In 2020, COVID-19 shuttered 82% of summer camps in the United States leading to a loss of 16 billion dollars in revenue, 900,000 jobs within the camping industry, and left 19.5 million youth without a camp experience (ACA Research Team, 2021; Fernandez, 2020; Wycoff, 2021). Financial constraints, stakeholder interest, and increased knowledge of COVID-19 mitigation strategies led to 71% of residential and 56% of day camps re-opening nationally in 2021 (ACA Research Team, 2022). To open, camps had to employ a variety of innovations to mitigate risks and support amended programming and operations. This cross-sectional survey study, in partnership with …

Organizational Digital Agility: Strategic Imperative For Digital Transformation And Firm Performance, John Willard Hill
Organizational Digital Agility: Strategic Imperative For Digital Transformation And Firm Performance, John Willard Hill
Theses and Dissertations
A firm’s ability to achieve a competitive advantage through the creation of digital capabilities is affected by a firm’s organizational digital agility (ODA). At their heart, both the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities provide vehicles for describing the ‘what’ regarding the role of resources in executing firm strategy. However, these two theoretical foundations do not address the ‘how’ and the manager's role in deploying those resources to achieve a competitive advantage. Resource orchestration theory begins to address this gap and advocates for the manager’s role in deploying these resources. Yet, despite this theoretical foundation, little research has been conducted on …

Theses and Dissertations
With its complexities and portfolio-nature, the advent of blockchain technology presents several use cases to stakeholders for business value appropriation and financial gains. This 3-essay dissertation focuses on three exemplars and research approaches to understanding the value creation logics of blockchain technology for financial gains. The first essay is a conceptual piece that explores five main affordances of blockchain technology and how these can be actualized and assimilated for business value. Based on the analysis of literature findings, an Affordance-Experimentation-Actualization-Assimilation (AEAA) model is proposed. The model suggests five affordance-to-assimilation value chains and eight value interdependencies that firms can leverage to …

Theses and Dissertations
The strategic planning and decision-making process of a firm is what drives the future of a firm, but what are all the correct stakeholders involved in that process? Historically, the Chief Executive Officer of the firm has been in charge of the firm’s strategic plan, guiding the firm based on his/her past experiences, and the Chief Financial Officer of the firm has been in charge of the back-office financial records and reporting. This study utilized the case study approach to explore the level of involvement a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has in firms' strategic planning and decision-making processes that contract …
