Rural Mental Health Care During A Global Health Pandemic: Addressing And Supporting The Rapid Transition To Tele-Mental Health, Shawnda Schroeder, Holly Roberts, Thomasine Heitkamp, Brandy Clarke, Heather J. Gotham, Erika Franta

Indigenous Health Faculty Publications

The adoption of tele-mental health by mental health professionals has been slow, especially in rural areas. Prior to 2020, less than half of mental health agencies offered tele-mental health for patients. In response to the global health pandemic in March of 2020, mental health therapists across the U.S. were challenged to make the rapid shift to tele-mental health to provide patient care. Given the lack of adoption of tele-mental health previously, immediate training in tele-mental health was needed. This article describes collaborative efforts between two mental health technology transfer centers and one addiction technology transfer center in rural regions of …

Creativity Training Needs Assessment For Homeland Security Enterprise: A Case For Creative Thinking, Alexis L. D'Amato, Samuel T. Hunter

Reports, Projects, and Research

Creativity, specifically creative problem solving, is often excluded from Homeland Security Enterprise efforts to train and develop their workforces. To determine if this lack of training was a key knowledge gap in the communities, we drew on organisational creativity literature. Using the personnel databases O*NET and Careers in the Military Database, we conducted a training needs assessment by identifying relevant job tasks, knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) that align with the creative process. More specifically, we sought to identify the need for creative problem-solving training and designated creative thinking time (e.g. red teaming) to influence innovative intelligence capabilities. Based on …

Chapter 5- Needs Assessment And Data Analytics: Understanding Your Constituencies, Neal Legler

Making Connections

Needs assessment is an important early step in the development of a mentoring program because it helps ensure that program resources go toward improving prioritized institutional results. Needs assessment should involve key stakeholders, organized into a needs assessment committee, and then follow a systematic process to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and identify existing organizational needs. Needs are defined as the gap between desired organizational results and current results. They should be considered holistically and at all levels of the organization. As needs are identified, the needs assessment committee works with stakeholders through a combination of group management …

Brand On The Run: The Effects Of Internal And External Stakeholder Communication Of Corporate Rebranding Efforts, Abby Vandiver

Honors Theses

A company’s most valuable asset is its brand. Not just limited to its name and logo, a brand is loosely defined as the identity of an organization. A strong brand identity can create strong customer loyalty. Changing even a part of this identity can cause confusion and ultimately revenue loss. This study examined how business owners and marketers communicate with their stakeholders when they decide a rebrand is necessary. After researching current literature on this topic, businesses in Oxford, Mississippi which have undergone a rebrand in the last decade were recruited to answer questions. Ten organizations participated either through interview …

Recovering A Missional Ecclesiology: A Framework For Reviving Congregational Mission Within The Baptist Union Of Victoria, Gayle Hill May 2023

Recovering A Missional Ecclesiology: A Framework For Reviving Congregational Mission Within The Baptist Union Of Victoria, Gayle Hill

Doctor of Ministry Theses and Dissertations

ABSTRACT This project is an intervention to develop a theological and theoretical framework

that will become the foundation for a future curriculum for recovering a missional ecclesiology for the pastors of the Baptist Union of Victoria (BUV). Despite mission being central to the overall vision of the BUV, declining numbers, the post-COVID context in Victoria, and an overarching post-Christian and pluralistic context have significantly challenged the centrality and functioning of mission across our denomination. The impetus of this project was the observation that our churches were floundering rather than flourishing in the missional space. Many chronic and acute provocations were …

Rebuilding Grid Governance, Joel B. Eisen, Heather E. Payne May 2023

Rebuilding Grid Governance, Joel B. Eisen, Heather E. Payne

BYU Law Review

As climate change sharpens the focus on our electricity systems, there is widespread agreement that the institutions that govern our electric grid must change to realize a clean energy future in the timescale necessary. Scholars are actively debating how grid governance needs to change, but in this Article we demonstrate that current proposals are insufficient because they do not contemplate “rebuilding.” This Article defines “rebuilding” as ending entities tasked with grid governance and creating new ones to take their place. We propose what no one else has: an overarching framework for rebuilding any grid governance institutions.

This Article discusses when …

Trauma-Informed Training For Educators, Kristin White

Dissertations, Theses, and Projects

The occurrence of childhood trauma in the school setting is an ongoing and pervasive issue. Students impacted by trauma frequently display challenging and problematic behavior, and educators lack the trauma-informed care needed to help them heal. These students often go untreated, and their trauma continues to impact them and those around them. This project aims to review the current literature on childhood trauma and how educators can better support students affected by trauma. The trauma-informed training associated with this project will offer tools, curricula, and resources that educators can implement on their campuses.

Searching For Nonbinary And Trans Inclusion: A Call To Action For Leadership Studies, Jody Condit Fagan, Ari Emilia Short

Libraries

Academic studies of leadership have historically taken a binary view of gender. A literature review was conducted to search for any scholarly work inclusive of trans and nonbinary identities. Across three academic databases and five leadership journals, only 11 such sources were found. These results were reviewed to explore themes across their findings as well as suggestions for future research. The analysis of the 11 sources’ findings and recommendations offer guidance for expanding conceptions of gender in leadership; for enhancing leadership education; and for developing a more complete research agenda for gender and leadership studies. Suggestions are also offered for …

Global Perceptions Of Space: The Interior Designer's Role, Ansley C. Elliott May 2023

Global Perceptions Of Space: The Interior Designer's Role, Ansley C. Elliott

Honors College Theses

Interior designers need to show and share awareness of cultural inclusivity in design solutions to create a positive experience for all end users. In order to do this, interior designers need to gain an understanding of how people from various geographical locations perceive space and, as a result, behave and connect in public environments. This study explored existing literature on human factors in design, such as proxemics, territoriality, anthropometrics, cultural dimensions in business practices, and inclusivity in design. The research methodology included a Qualtrics survey on cultural background and demographic data; three-dimensional renderings of a public restaurant and a workplace; …

What Happens When A Company's Marketing Strategy No Longer Mirrors The Shopping Trends Of The American Consumer: A Case Study Of Sears, Roebuck And Company, Savannah Burnett

Honors Theses

Once America’s largest mass merchandiser, Sears is a name that remains recognizable for many people. Throughout our country’s history, the U.S. retail industry has often shifted alongside its country’s major historical events. However, one major corporation who once mirrored the ebbs and flows of the United States economy slowly faded out of the minds of the American consumer. This thesis seeks to answer if Sears’ fall from grace was a direct reflection of American consumer trends.

Secondary data was gathered through books accessed from the university library, newspaper articles, scholarly journals, and online news sources, as well as the company’s …

Toward Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Outreach And Engagement In Extension Education: Expert Consensus On Barriers And Strategies, John Diaz, Cody Gusto, Lendel K. Narine, K.S.U Jayaratne, Colby Silvert

Journal of Extension

Barriers to the successful implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) education and outreach initiatives are being documented across higher education institutions as DEI policies and protocols are gaining attention. Despite growing attention to promote DEI in higher education institutions, there remains a need to examine barriers preventing DEI efforts in a systematic way, particularly in Extension education contexts to formulate strategies to promote DEI. We present an expert, consensus-based framework to identify the most salient barriers to successful DEI implementation in Extension. We also discuss opportunities for Extension practitioners to overcome salient barriers with tailored mitigation strategies.

Tranexamic Acid Protocol For Lower Extremity Total Joint Arthroplasties, Autumn Cullison May 2023

Tranexamic Acid Protocol For Lower Extremity Total Joint Arthroplasties, Autumn Cullison

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Abstract

Bleeding is a risk associated with surgery, and complications, such as hypotension, anemia, and decreased oxygen-carrying capacity, can occur. Blood transfusions have been the mainstay treatment for excessive surgical blood loss; however, transfusion has associated risks including infection, volume overload, immunological reactions, and increased morbidity and mortality (Sahu et al., 2014). Interventions to decrease surgical blood loss are essential components to improving surgical outcomes. The antithrombolytic, tranexamic acid (TXA), decreases surgical blood loss and blood transfusion requirements, thereby decreasing transfusion-related complications (Gausden et al., 2017). Despite frequent use, variance exists surrounding the administration of TXA. Current evidence and guidelines …

Splitting Deceased Donor Livers To Double The Transplant Benefits: Addressing The Legal, Ethical, And Practical Challenges, Evelyn M. Tenenbaum, Jed Adam Gross

Health Matrix: The Journal of Law-Medicine

Liver transplantation is different from transplanting other solid organs because some recipients can achieve good long-term outcomes with only half of a donor’s liver (or less). This means that some deceased donor livers can be split, saving two lives instead of one. However, although more than 10 percent of cadaveric livers meet the criteria for splitting, only about 1.5 percent are actually split in the United States. This article identifies a set of ethical, legal, and logistical challenges to a more extensive use of split liver transplantation (SLT) within existing legal frameworks. We then discuss how each of these challenges …

In-House Counsel, The Adoption Of Artificial Intelligence, And Legal Ethics, Dr Felicity Bell, Prof. Michael Legg

Indian Journal of Law and Technology

In-house counsel have become a large and influential group of lawyers in many jurisdictions. When it comes to transactional and regulatory work, they play a key role. Nevertheless, in-house counsel are also under pressure to create efficiencies in legal work, with tightening legal budgets and ever-growing volumes of regulation. Artificial intelligence (AI) applications are often suggested as a means of creating these cost savings. There is a strong business case for using AI in this context as routinised work lends itself to economies of scale. But what are the implications of using AI, for the in-house lawyer? They must ensure …

Assessment Of Community College Shared Governance: The Relationship Between Shared Governance And Institutional Performance, Shalee Hodgson

Doctorate in Education

Community colleges rely on shared governance to connect the people closest to institutional work, administrators, faculty, and staff, with the decisions that shape it. However, the relationship between shared governance and institutional performance remains underexamined, and the role of staff in particular has received limited scholarly attention. This qualitative case study examined employee perceptions of shared governance and institutional performance at one community college in the northwestern United States, exploring how shared governance supported institutional effectiveness and how the college sustained its assessment through committee operations and the strategic planning process. Data were collected through document review and semi-structured interviews …
