Background: The National Federation of State High School Associations provides recommendations regarding health and safety policies; however, policy development is governed at the state level. Given interstate differences in governance, the primary purpose was to describe processes that State High School Athletic Associations (SHSAAs) utilize to develop a new policy. The secondary objective was to determine what methods associations use to implement new policies. Methods: A cross-sectional survey requested SHSAA (n = 51) representatives to report how athlete health and safety policies are introduced, revised, approved, and implemented within their state. The 22-question survey was developed to gather variables for …
Exploring Negotiated Autonomy In The Physician–Physician Assistant Collaborative Dyad, Stephen Robie
Exploring Negotiated Autonomy In The Physician–Physician Assistant Collaborative Dyad, Stephen Robie
Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations
Physician Assistants (PAs) are integral members of multidisciplinary medical care teams who practice medicine legally under the supervision of physicians. During medical care, supervision is a dynamic process of collaboration wherein a PA who displays competence is granted increasing independence by the supervising physician. This process has been referred to as negotiated autonomy. Despite being noted in work-force literature, the mechanics of how negotiated autonomy operates in real-time have not been described. As organizations increasingly work to integrate PAs into practice, new-hire training programs called ‘on-boarding’ have been implemented to accelerate PA professional development with a goal of increased efficiency …

With the many urgent problems facing our society, it has become imperative that we change the way we educate current and future business leaders. Here we share an approach we have taken for the MBA program at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the hope that it may be instructive for others seeking to make sustainability a central theme in their curriculum. Our goal is to develop the motivation, mindset, and toolset of faculty and students to make a positive difference in the world. While sustainability is probably best treated as a theme woven throughout a curriculum (rather than as a single …

Community Development Through Summer Camps, Edgar Iglesias Vidal, Narcís Turon Pèlach, Pere Soler Masó, Lara Morcillo Sanchez
Journal of Youth Development
Summer camps are widespread in many countries and have a long history. Their contribution to children’s and young people’s leisure and recreation is widely acknowledged, as is their usefulness as an educational resource. That large numbers of children and young people across Europe attend summer camps is well-known; according to Eurofound (2020), most of the twenty-seven countries analyzed record student attendance at camps, and in twelve countries (including Spain) over 50% of young people take part. However, another study carried out in the member countries of the European Union (Plantenga & Remery, 2017) stated that when the availability, use, and …

Exploring Burnout Program Effectiveness With Adult Day Health Providers, Katy R. Maguire
OTD DEx Reports - College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
"Stress and burnout are frequently experienced by those in healthcare professions. While extensive research has been done on the impact of stress and burnout on nurses and physicians, other healthcare fields are less researched. One of these populations of health providers excluded from current studies is adult day health providers. Health providers at adult day health centers provide specialized services to persons with acquired, developmental, and intellectual disabilities. They orient these individuals to the community, administer their medications, provide opportunities for socialization and learning, accommodate leisure activities, and many other services that promote community and personal independence for their clients. …
Essays On Artificial Intelligence (Ai) In Management, Bowen Zhou
Essays On Artificial Intelligence (Ai) In Management, Bowen Zhou
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
This dissertation comprises three essays that investigate the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business.
Chapter 1 investigates the fundamental issue of how integrating AI within R&D activities influences a firm’s market value. We developed an "AI Index" using patent data and textual analysis. Interestingly, empirical results indicate a negative correlation between AI integration and market value. However, this does not suggest that AI is an unviable avenue for exploration. Further analysis of the boundary conditions reveals that complementary assets are crucial for successful commercialisation, highlighting that while AI adoption is costly, these assets significantly enhance its market value. …

Implications Of Ai Adoption On Kosovo’S Tech Smes, Agullina Shllaku
Theses
This study explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on small and medium-sized tech enterprises (SMEs), namely the extent to which these SMEs are investing in AI technologies, and how that will impact the organizational structure of those SMEs. While most of Kosovo’s tech SMEs have started to engage with AI to some extent, the demand for such services is much lower compared to global levels. This study identifies investment strategies prominent in SMEs, as well as their initiative to internal restructuring instead of hiring. Through a mix of qualitative and quantitative data, this study generates relevant insights from employees …

Evaluasi Kebijakan Adopsi Ipsas Di Indonesia: Sebuah Kajian Empirisme, Nia Pramita Sari
Jurnal Manajemen dan Usahawan Indonesia
The Indonesian government's policy to reform state financial administration through the adoption of IPSAS in Indonesia has drawn controversy among accounting academics. This study evaluates the policy from an empiricist perspective in the epistemology of the philosophy of science at the stages of formulation, evaluation, and consequences of the policy. The results of the analysis show that the formulation and evaluation stages that are not based on the principle of empiricism that emphasizes observable evidence in the formation of ideas and scientific studies cause various obstacles in the implementation process and ultimately have negative consequences for society. This article presents …

The Role Of Sustainability Leadership In Transforming Business Organizations, Fermin Antonio D. R. Yabut, Maria Assunta C. Cuyegkeng, Juancho Gabriel D. Barretto, Robert Edric Josef R. Lizares
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
The complexity of sustainability issues requires leadership that can help transform the organization. Much has been written about sustainability leadership, such as its characteristics, models, frameworks, and practice. This paper reviews the literature on sustainability leadership as it has evolved for business organizations. The review uses a morphogenetic approach (Archer, 2020) to show how the literature describes three phases of sustainability leadership, namely, the conditioning that sets the stage for this type of leadership, the social interaction of sustainability leaders, and sustainability transformation in the organization. To sustain the transformation, it is important to develop future sustainability leaders with the …

Ecological Factors And Minority Young Adults’ Trust In Law Enforcement, Jason Boswell
Ecological Factors And Minority Young Adults’ Trust In Law Enforcement, Jason Boswell
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Throughout the past decade, studies have shown that the relationship between police organizations and community members has developed mistrust as more citizens begin to document misconduct by law enforcement officers. Studies have also proven that community members trust the police when they feel the police are fair and just. Distrust of law enforcement undermines the legitimacy of police officers, and without this trust legitimacy, police officers lose their ability and authority to perform their jobs effectively. To help bridge the gap between minority communities and law enforcement agencies, this qualitative phenomenological study was conducted to examine the trust within law …

The Dissertation in Practice at Western University
This Dissertation-in-Practice (DiP) aims to explore organizational change frameworks to address the problem of practice in the Tundra Education System (TES, pseudonym), which has resulted in inconsistent implementation of inclusion and culturally relevant policies by principals. TES is situated in an Indigenous region of Arctic Canada and about eighty percent of principals are non-Indigenous people. To make a change process relevant to the context of TES, the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles, upon which education in TES is built, are integral components of the change implementation processes. Furthermore, the DiP addresses the questions “what”, “why”, and “how” of the intended change …

Innovation affords us modern lifestyles filled with advanced technology and social structures; however, such development comes at a significant cost to the planet, posing an existential threat to humanity. In our highly complex and networked world, there is an urgency to achieve more sustainable, just and resilient futures. As design seeks to drive sustainable and systemic change, what is the role of radical innovation? And what do we want it to be? This study revisits and reframes the somewhat ambiguous concept of ‘radical innovation’ to broaden our understanding of its role, impact, and potential. We present a machine-learning-enabled literature review …
