Twenty-Five Years: A History Of Claremont Teachers College 1952 - 1977, John A. Mckenzie
Research outputs pre 2011
This book had its beginning in our belief that it was appropriate in celebrating the seventy-fifth anniversary of Claremont Teachers College to record the significant contribution its staff and students have made to the development of Western Australia.
The idea of writing a sequel to Dr Mossenson's history of the first fifty years was endorsed by the College Council and I was given the task of finding a historian who would take on this work.
I found that person in John McKenzie, who had trained and lectured at the college. Mr McKenzie willingly agreed to bring together the strands of …

Organizational Innovation In A Professional School: A Case Study, Marie Streng Berger
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this research was to apply specific organization development strategies in a professional school to test the applicability of Argyris' Theory and Method Model for this setting. The research was designed to determine the effectiveness of group decision-making processes before and after intervention. In order to accomplish this, the research included two phases. The purpose of Phase One was to involve all members in the organization development program so valid information could be collected about strengths, limitations, and problems of the organization. Data for this phase were collected by individual and group interviews. These interviews, while unstructured, were …

Selected Personality Constructs As Correlates Of Personnel Appointment, Appraisal, And Mobility In Seventh-Day Adventist Schools, Merle A. Greenway
Dissertations
Problem. Despite tentative postulations and explorations of the person/job interaction, the specific relationships between personality and occupational behavior are not clearly understood. In particular, the relationships between human temperament and various aspects of personnel administration in an educational setting are generally unknown. The purpose of this study was to profile the temperament traits of professional educators in the Seventh-day Adventist school system, grouped on the basis of occupationally relevant selection variables; and to investigate the role of personality as it relates to personnel appointment, appraisal, and mobility.
Method. A demographic questionnaire and the Temperament Inventory were administered to 486 teachers, …

An Analysis Of Alternative Educational Delivery Systems In Northwestern Minnesota., Adeline Katie Jaeger
Theses and Dissertations
The study purpose was to learn the perceived general desirability and also the perceived specific feasibility of nineteen alternative educational delivery ideas, many of which required inter-district cooperation. The population included individuals who had formally served the fifty-two school districts of northwestern Minnesota as representatives for areawide educational planning, or as superintendents of schools, or as both superintendents and representatives. The instrument used to gather data was based upon delivery ideas which resulted from long-range educational planning activities. These activities had been mandated by the Minnesota Legislature in 1976.Five research questions considered (1) role of the respondent during planning, (2) …

Police Organization And Community Relations, John E. Angell
Police Organization And Community Relations, John E. Angell
Conference papers
Police scholars approached the decade of the 1970s with optimistic expectations that the use of alternative organizational designs could improve the responsiveness and effectiveness of American policing. These expectations were not fulfilled. The 1970s ended with the traditional bureaucratic philosophy more firmly entrenched in the police managerial psyche than it was in the 1960s. The author argues that this is not because the traditional bureaucratic arrangements are superior, and proposes specific changes to police organization to improve community relations and the effectiveness of the police function.

Accountability And University Teaching: Toward The Systematic Mediation Of Professional Power, Paul Alan Dorsey
Accountability And University Teaching: Toward The Systematic Mediation Of Professional Power, Paul Alan Dorsey
Dissertations
Between 1965 and 1980 American higher education has witnessed the emergence of several related developments which challenge traditional conceptions of the autonomy of higher education: affirmative action, the managerial revolution in higher education, the student consumer movement, the strengthening of statewide coordination of higher education, the accelerated movement to collective bargaining, and the increasing involvement of the courts in college and university affairs. This study identifies and articulates the nature and significance of emergent qualitative dimensions of structural change, for which these developments are structural indicators, and argues that they constitute a new, emergent form of occupational control over university …

Instituting Management Changes Through Decentralized Budgeting In A Public Mental Health Setting, Wesley E. Wilber
Instituting Management Changes Through Decentralized Budgeting In A Public Mental Health Setting, Wesley E. Wilber
Theses
This study examines the adoption and implementation of a decentralized budgeting model within a public mental‑health institution, focusing on the administrative, financial, and organizational consequences of shifting from a centrally controlled budget framework toward local unit responsibility. Drawing on archival records, budget data, and administrative narratives from the institution’s transition period, the analysis highlights how decentralization altered decision‑making dynamics, cost behaviour, service orientation, and internal accountability structures. The decentralization initiative empowered individual units by giving them budgetary control over expenditures previously managed at the centralized level, thereby increasing their autonomy over staffing, program purchases, and resource reallocation. This shift brought …
