A Professional Development Model For Planned Change In Arts Education., Francine Lee Morin
Theses and Dissertations
This investigation sought to explore the persisting problem of ineffective reform efforts in arts education. Library and interview data pertinent to the inquiry were collected, coded, and categorized according to an evolving thematic scheme. The qualitative data were subject to analytic induction procedures for the purpose of generating grounded theory which had the potential to explain the phenomenon under study. The procedures resulted in the gradual emergence of a three-component, professional development model for planned change in arts education which is based on knowledge of educational change, adult learning, and the experience of past professional development practice. The proposed model addresses …

Law and Contemporary Problems
The origins and early history of the EPA are reviewed. The US might have had better natural resource and environmental protection policies if some of the principles of comprehensive environmental management considered at EPA's founding had been followed.

The value of having statewide themes-and national priorities, for that matter-is that previously overlooked needs can be identified, resources can be marshaled, and programs that have run their course can be dropped.

Climate For Change In Extension: Different Perspectives Make A Difference, Rose Marie Tondl
Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design: Faculty Publications
The 1990s are ushering in major changes for Cooperative Extension as National Initiatives become the foundation for program planning, replacing some of the traditional discipline-based programs. As new ideas for program operations are introduced, a natural consequence is human resistance to change. Throughout the system, we're being forced to cope with fundamental changes in the way we do business. The possibility of upsetting the balance of power exists. Individuals will take action based on their perception of how changes will affect their relative power position in the organization. New knowledge, varying economic conditions, pressures of competition, evolution of new cultural …

Application Of Just-In-Time Production Methods In The Defense Industrial Base, Dominic J. Cirello
Application Of Just-In-Time Production Methods In The Defense Industrial Base, Dominic J. Cirello
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the motivation for defense industrial base contractors to switch to Just-In-Time (JIT) production. Areas of interest included the original motivation for the contractor to change to JIT, how they implemented the change, which JIT methods they used, and what benefits they received from switching to JIT. A review of the current literature on the subject of JIT revealed that JIT is a philosophy of production based on inventory reduction, process improvement, and elimination of waste. This philosophy can be supported through the use of a number of different methods, and reductions in both cost and cycle time …

Challenges To United States Tactical Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Personnel: Past, Present And Future, Barbara L. Harris
Theses and Dissertations
This study assessed the challenges Tactical Air Force (TAF) aircraft maintenance personnel face as a result of the TAF reorganization. The goal was to provide aircraft maintenance managers a basis for evaluating and meeting those challenges. To accomplish this, emphasis was placed on documenting the concepts, events, and conditions which led to changes in military aircraft maintenance from the birth of aviation to the present. Current issues such as the proposed move to two-level maintenance and the formation of the TAF composite and Objective Wings were also addressed. Research was conducted through the review of available historical documents, complemented by …

Desert Express: An Analysis On Improved Customer Service, Thomas C. Thalheim
Theses and Dissertations
Operation Desert Shield/Storm provided an opportunity to test the planning for U.S. forces to operate in a low intensity conflict. Both operations provided the opportunity for the logistics community to observe how the support forces provided the required supplies to the forward combat forces. In response to customers' requests, the U.S. Transportation Command created Desert Express, a daily package express flight from Charleston, SC to Saudi Arabia. The research question addresses the how and why Desert Express came about. Additional investigative questions cover the following: mission objectives, planners' and customers' expectations, system performance, and implications on the Defense Transportation System. …
An Analysis Of Base Level Environmental Organizations, John F. Akers Jr.
An Analysis Of Base Level Environmental Organizations, John F. Akers Jr.
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis was to try and determine if there was one type of environmental organization which was truly so much more effective than the others that all bases should have it, or if the decision of which type of environmental organization to have should be left entirely to the bases. In addition, I hoped to discover the advantages and disadvantages of each type of organizational structure. I feel that knowing these advantages and disadvantages will greatly aid those individuals making the decisions on environmental organizational structure. In completing this study I turned to the only place the …

The Operation Of Military Family Housing As A Business Enterprise. A Case Study At Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, Michael T. Ray
Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this research was to determine the feasibility of operating Military Family Housing (MFH) as a business enterprise, based on rental income. A case study of the Langley AFB Military Family Housing operation during FY 90 was used to determine if housing allowances forfeited by residents of base housing would provide sufficient rental income for the annual operations, maintenance and capital improvement of the MFH assets. It further compared the descriptive data from Langley AFB, Virginia, to USAF averages to determine if the findings at Langley were generalizable across the Air Force. The case study showed that Basic …
Municipal Freedom Of Information And Protection Of Privacy Act, 1989: Organizational Change In The Region Of Hamilton-Wentworth, Thomas Plant
MPA Major Research Papers
This paper examines the organizational changes that have taken place in Hamilton-Wentworth as a result of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) based on case studies of the regional clerk’s department and the regional police department. The findings reveal that when change occurs at the municipal level, it is important to view the organization as a compilation of the organizational structure, the groups within the organization, and the individuals who comprise those groups in order to avoid decline.

An Analysis Of Urban Higher Education Ceo's Perceptions Of Critical Leadership Behaviors, Linda Ferguson Banis
An Analysis Of Urban Higher Education Ceo's Perceptions Of Critical Leadership Behaviors, Linda Ferguson Banis
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education
The research question for this study asked if CEO's (Chief Executive Officers) of urban higher education institutions hold the same values and beliefs as those attributed to business and industry CEO's through the business literature. Through survey methodology, the analysis of urban higher education CEO's perceptions of critical leadership behaviors revealed very similar belief patterns. The primary discrepancies between the research group and their industry counterparts lie in the degree to which critical behaviors are espoused and in the acceptance of transformational leadership as a proactive model for effective organizational change. The responses to the open-ended portion of the questionnaire …

Occupational Social Work And Multinational Corporations, Chathapuram S. Ramanathan
Occupational Social Work And Multinational Corporations, Chathapuram S. Ramanathan
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
In a global economy, transfer of human technology via multinational Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) is a reality. Successful development and implementation of multinational EAPs require attention to the host country's political, legal frameworks, and cultural issues. The roles of occupational social workers vary based on these dimensions and issues. The targets of interventions are foreign executives and their families, host country employees and their families, and the organization itself.
Successor Employers' Obligations Under The National Labor Relations Act, Ting-Wang Lu
Successor Employers' Obligations Under The National Labor Relations Act, Ting-Wang Lu
Theses
A wave of business acquisitions is currently sweeping the American corporate scene. Companies are purchasing both unionized and non-unionized businesses at a dizzying pace.
Not surprisingly, after years of confrontational contract renewals, management and 10 unions at the New York Daily News are jockeying for position in talks over agreements that expire on March 30, 1990. Throughout the long negotiation process then the strike began on October 25, 1990. End with Robert Maxwell, the British press baron, signing an agreement on his purchase of the Daily News on March 14, 1991. Obviously, this question of successor employers' obligations is one …
