Enhancing Emergency Department Communication: Structural Requirements And Outcomes Of Standardized Handover Processes, Bridgette A. Moss-Sherman
Enhancing Emergency Department Communication: Structural Requirements And Outcomes Of Standardized Handover Processes, Bridgette A. Moss-Sherman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Effective communication during patient handovers is crucial for ensuring safe, quality care in the emergency departments (EDs) of small to medium-sized hospitals. The absence of standardized communication tools presents significant challenges, potentially leading to errors and hindering care coordination. This integrative review evaluates strategies for implementing standardized handover processes while examining their outcomes, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced communication practices. Grounded in the Donabedian quality conceptual framework, which encompasses structure, process, and outcomes as interconnected components of healthcare quality, the review identifies five key themes: (a) standardized communication protocols, advocating for the adoption of structured tools like SBAR and …

Do Pro-Environmental Factors Lead To Customers’ Purchase Intention Of Home Energy Management System? The Moderating Effects Of Energy-Efficient Habits, Maryam Zidehsaraei, Minoo Zidehsaraei, Kourosh Esfandiar
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Environmental challenges, encompassing climate change and global warming, compel consumers to alter their consumption habits. Although there has been a notable surge in consumer awareness regarding pro-environmental practices, especially concerning home energy, there remains a lack of comprehensive research exploring the factors affecting consumers’ willingness to adopt or invest in home energy management system (HEMS) technology. Notably, there have been no studies focused on the factors influencing HEMS purchase intentions (PI) in the Iranian context. Grounded in the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the norm activation model, this research delves into the PI of Iranian households regarding HEMS, categorizing …

Facilitating The Use Of Sbar By Nursing Staff For Handoff Communication, Amarillis L. Tompkins
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Clear communication during shift handoffs is crucial to minimize errors and ensure patient safety in intensive care. The current SBAR framework used in the MICU is constrained by limited documentation space, which led to communication inefficiencies and heightened risks for patient care.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In the NFSG VA MICU, will staff nurses (P) using a revised SBAR communication tool with a checklist (I), compared to the current outdated SBAR tool without a checklist (C), improve the accuracy and completeness of patient handoff communication (O) over eight weeks (T)?
Evidence: The project …

Fighting The Hypothetical: Why Law Firms Should Rethink The Billable Hour In The Generative Ai Era, Nancy B. Rapoport, Joseph R. Tiano, Jr.
Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts
“Fighting the Hypothetical: Why Law Firms Should Rethink the Billable Hour in the Generative AI Era” analyzes how the emergence and adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) will fundamentally disrupt the traditional billable hour model that has dominated the industry since the 1960s. Professor Rapoport and Mr. Tiano contend that GenAI’s ability to perform routine legal tasks quickly and accurately will force law firms to shift away from billing structures based primarily on time spent (or inputs) and toward models that better reflect client value (or outputs).
The authors interviewed law firm leaders to gain an “in the trenches” view …

Improving Herbage Seed Industry Productivity And Stability Through Action Research, R L. Ison, W.H C. Potts, G Beale
Improving Herbage Seed Industry Productivity And Stability Through Action Research, R L. Ison, W.H C. Potts, G Beale
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Herbage seed industry productivity improvements derive traditionally from better understanding the biology and effective management of seed production. These may then aggregate to enhance industry productivity. There are however situations when greater gains in industry productivity and stability may be achieved through the powerful tool of organisational or institutional change (Kingma, 1985). Seed industries in Australia (Potts and Ison, 1987) and internationally (McMullen, 1987) are changing rapidly ; future research cannot ignore the need to investigate organisational constraints given the frequent inability of organisations to change and adapt to rapidly changing business environments (Schwendiman, 1986). Traditional, reductionist research approaches which …

Activists On Board: Shareholder Activists And Their Influence On Firm Strategic Change, Eugene See
Activists On Board: Shareholder Activists And Their Influence On Firm Strategic Change, Eugene See
Management and Decision Sciences
The prevalence of shareholder activism has resulted in the placement of activist-appointed directors onto the boards of firms. Extant research on this phenomenon has taken a rational approach in examining how such directors bring about change but has not accounted for the behavioral implications associated with their placement on boards. Building on theory involving alignment and legitimacy at the team level, this paper adopts a behavioral approach in theorizing how the placement of activist shareholders themselves as directors onto the boards of firms brings about firm change. The study finds that such activists lead to less firm change. Further, it …

iSchool - All Scholarship
This study examines how the communication network structure of a community of U.S. nonprofits evolves in response to the COVID-19
pandemic by examining their multiplex strategic communication network- building on Twitter/X. This study identifies two types of networks:
representational ties (for third-party audiences) and substantial ties (for direct resource exchange). Our findings suggest that organizations remain consistent with network strategies through different crisis stages, and the crisis provides opportunities for nonprofits to maintain existing substantial networks while building more extensive substantial networks. Representational ties, even the ones formed pre-crisis, hold the potential to turn into substantial relationships. Theoretically, this research …

Does Culture Eat Talent? A Quantitative Study Exploring The Relationship Between Organizational Culture And Turnover Intentions In Conservation Organizations, T'Noya W. Thompson
PhD in Organizational Leadership
Talent retention can be a significant challenge within organizations, especially when turnover intention (TI) is high. High TI indicates that employees experience low job satisfaction, lack organizational commitment, and perceive more opportunities outside the organization; consequently, they consider leaving, which can disrupt organizational stability and effectiveness. This study examined the relationships of perceived and preferred organizational culture (OC) and TI among a sample of 217 individuals from the conservation workforce. Of these participants, 121 were associated with 15 conservation organizations that participated, and the remaining 96 participants were acquired through conservation networks. Participants responded to an online survey that combined …

Intangible Harms, Tangible Consequences: Analyzing The Impact Of Transunion On Standing To Sue For Data Breach, Noelle Wilson, Amanda Reid
Missouri Law Review
Scholars and practitioners predicted that the 2021 Supreme Court case TransUnion v. Ramirez would essentially nullify the private right of action—a key enforcement mechanism for many consumer privacy laws. This Article analyzes federal courts (N=96) interpreting TransUnion in data breach contexts. Our contribution is twofold: (1) identifying tests courts employ to determine whether data breach plaintiffs have alleged sufficient “injury in fact” to establish Article III standing, and (2) highlighting the areas of inconsistency in how courts employ those tests. The analysis serves to ground the scholarly debate about the implications of TransUnion in holding breached entities accountable. Despite the …

Mapping Organizational Theory With Scripts, Jose Eos R. Trinidad
Interdisciplinary Studies Faculty Publications
Organizational theory has developed in numerous directions that have been difficult to integrate. This review synthesizes them into seven perspectives, with theories focused within and beyond the organization (i.e., intra- and extra-organizational dynamics). It proposes the acronym SCRIPTS: structure, culture, relations, institutions, professions, transformation, and social conflict. Within organizations, structure focuses on theories of bureaucracy, management, routines, and decision-making while culture focuses on shared values, identity, climate, and sensemaking. Relations involve studies of interpersonal and interorganizational networks. Institutions focus on the macro-dynamics of fields and isomorphism, and micro-dynamics of entrepreneurship and inhabited institutions. Professions refer to psychological factors shaping individual …
