Objectives: The incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP) in the paediatric population has increased over the past two decades, with an estimated annual rate of 0.78 per 100,000 children. This study aimed to describe the risk factors and characteristics of AP in Omani children. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, including all children <14 years who were admitted and treated with AP at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat, Oman, from January 2010 to December 2020. Case presentations, aetiology, management, and outcomes were reviewed. Results: During the 11-year study period, 55 cases were identified (male: female, 1.2:1). The most frequently reported risk factors were toxic/metabolic (49.1%). Abdominal pain was the predominant symptom (76.4%). Conservative treatment was administered in 74.5% of cases, while the remaining patients required surgery or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. …

Poultry provides both direct and indirect employment opportunities to individuals. Every farm owner desires a reduced investment with more earnings. Self-Management And Support Needs Of Patients Experiencing Persistent Symptoms Consistent With Hypothyroidism: A Qualitative Study, Marike De Reuver-Schuurman, Esther C. Bakker, Lilian Lechner, Liset Van Dijk

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews

Purpose: To gain insight into the self-management and support needs of patients experiencing persistent symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism, despite thyroid laboratory values within the normal range.

Methods: A qualitative study using the phenomenological approach was conducted. Semi-structured interviews including 19 patients diagnosed with persistent symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism, despite receiving adequate replacement therapy, were performed. Respondents were recruited using purposive sampling via Schildklier Organisatie Nederland (Dutch Thyroid Organization) (www.schildklier.nl). After transcription and coding, a thematic analysis was performed.

Purpose: Myocardial infarction (MI) remains to be associated with a high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events and disease burden. This study assessed patient perspectives on the burden of disease and treatment in the first year post-MI.

Methods: Data were collected via a self-administered online questionnaire posted on the Carenity patient platform in the United States (10/30/2022−12/30/2022). Only patients who had an MI in the prior year were eligible for inclusion.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered the way in which people interact with and use technology, particularly in early childhood. This study investigated the relationship between electronic device usage during the COVID-19 pandemic in rural Thailand and suspected developmental delay (SDD) in early childhood. A case-control study aimed to investigate the relationship between suspected SDD and electronic device usage among children aged 2–5 and their primary caregivers in Chiang Rai province, Thailand. Community engagement has become a growing concern in the implementation of school nutrition programs, particularly in addressing issues of child malnutrition, food insecurity, and educational outcomes. However, definitions and levels of participation remain conceptually fragmented across various studies. This study aims to systematically review the scope, forms, and implications of community engagement in school-based nutrition programs. Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with a greater impact on low- and middle-income countries, particularly coastal communities that depend on fragile ecosystems. This study explores the effects of sociodemographic, behavioral, and metabolic factors on CVD incidence among the coastal population of Soropia, Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi. This research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design and applies Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using Smart PLS software. Data collection was conducted through standardized questionnaires and physical examinations. Background: Multimodality treatment {surgery + pre-operative chemoradiation [chemoradiotherapy for oesophageal cancer followed by surgery (CROSS)] or perioperative chemotherapy [fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin and docetaxel (FLOT)]} is the standard of care for locally advanced oesophageal cancer. Whilst highly tolerated, clinically, patients may experience toxicities which negatively impact their functional status. Exercise prehabilitation aims to improve functional status in advance of oesophagectomy to minimise postoperative morbidities. Trombidium grandissimum is also known by names, red velvet mite, real velvet mite, giant red velvet mite and rain bug, belongs to the family Trombidiidae and subclass Acari. Red velvet mite has four life stages: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Adult red velvet mites were collected from agricultural farm area of Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering & Information Technology. This study evaluated the effects of dietary supplementation with garlic, Tribulus terrestris, and vitamin E on semen quality parameters in desi male chickens maintained under local farming conditions in Sindh, Pakistan. This study evaluated the effects of dietary supplementation with prebiotics, probiotics, and symbiotics on the reproductive and physiological performance of New Zealand White rabbits, emphasizing teat conformation. Forty-eight rabbits were divided into four groups: control (a), prebiotics (b), probiotics (c), and symbiotics (d). During the first parity, teat conformation varied across dietary treatments, with group d (symbiotic supplementation) generally exhibiting superior teat morphology. Horizontal teat length was highest in group a (4.38±0.35) and lowest in group d (4.02±0.43). Introduction: Lung cancer is characterized by high mortality rates and poor prognosis, further requiring alternative therapies owing to the adverse effects of conventional chemotherapy. Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) has antimicrobial, antiproliferative, and antioxidant properties and can cure cancer. Method: Compounds from rambutan peel were identified through PubChem and analyzed for physicochemical properties using SwissADME. Target proteins were identified using SuperPred and compared with lung cancer–related proteins from GeneCards via Venny. Objective: This study aimed to assess vitamin D (VD) status and investigate its relationships with various health variables in KTRs in Erbil, Iraq. Methods: This observational cross-sectional study enrolled 130 consecutive KTRs; their mean age was 39.2 + 11.3 years, and 56.9% were men. Emerging research suggests canine companions may support the management of health conditions, yet evidence within complex, long-term conditions like hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) remains limited. hEDS is a multifaceted condition often associated with social withdrawal. Thus, the current research provided a high-powered investigation into whether the nonjudgmental support of canine companions could improve health and well-being outcomes for individuals with hEDS. An online survey of 401 participants was utilized to compare differences in health and well-being among individuals with hEDS who have a canine companion to those who do not. This study explores the dynamics of cultural conflict between expatriate and local staff in international NGOs (INGOs) and proposes a framework for sustainable human resource management. While existing INGO management literature emphasizes cultural factors in expatriate-local relations, limited empirical evidence explains the developmental process of these relationships and their implications. Through qualitative case study methodology, this research addresses the question: How do cultural conflicts between expatriates and local staff evolve within INGOs, and what management strategies emerge from these dynamics?

Objective

To assess the independent effects of lifecycle (age), historical (period), and generational (cohort) differences that influence the trends in extreme (>3 hours/day) screen time (TV watching plus computer use) among school-aged children in the United States.

Study design

We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and hierarchical age–period–cohort statistical techniques to decompose, describe, and explain the population-level, secular patterns in extreme daily screen viewing time among 5 to 15-year-olds between 1999 and 2018.

Plant height is a critical agronomic trait in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.), influencing both mechanical harvesting efficiency and overall yield. In this study, plant height variation was evaluated in 307 United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) germplasm accessions, which were phenotyped and genotyped using 15,058 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) obtained from whole-genome resequencing. The treatment of migrant children at the United States-Mexico border has become a contentious issue worldwide. International human rights frameworks set certain standards for the treatment of migrant children, and there are growing allegations that the United States has violated international legal obligations due to its inadequate detention conditions. This article argues that while the United States is not explicitly violating international treaties due to specific reservations, its border policies are in direct contradiction with global norms for the humane treatment of children. Kabwe, Zambia is among the most polluted cities, the result of nearly a century of lead mining and smelting. Despite the mine’s closure in 1994, an estimated 6.4 million tons of lead-contaminated waste continues to expose thousands of children to life-altering—and often irreversible—health consequences. This Article examines the Zambian government’s failure to remediate the environmental harm and protect children’s rights, analyzing both domestic legal obligations and international human rights treaties.
