The Influence Of Naturalness On Grocery Shoppers' Purchase Decisions In The United States, Rebecca Neusner
The Influence Of Naturalness On Grocery Shoppers' Purchase Decisions In The United States, Rebecca Neusner
Honors Theses - Providence Campus
The term “natural” and naturalness labeling have increasingly been used on food packaging for a largely disinformed public who associate naturalness with qualities that are often not present in the products that display it. This survey-based study examines the influence of naturalness on the decision-making process of grocery shoppers in the United States. Survey responses were analyzed to determine the value participants place on products with naturalness indicators and to identify what other attributes they prioritize when shopping. The results indicate that participants value naturalness and price in their purchase decisions more than attributes such as brand or appearance, and …

Freshwater planarians are an emerging model for toxicology and neuroscience because of their amenability to rapid behavioral screening and remarkable ability to regenerate a cephalized nervous system. As invertebrates, planarians can help reduce the use of vertebrates in research; however, laboratories typically maintain planarians on diets of homogenized organic beef or chicken liver, raising ethical concerns with feeding a vertebrate diet. Organic liver is difficult to obtain, and preparation methods vary, introducing intra- and interlaboratory variability. Here, we show that Dugesia japonica planarians can be maintained for over a year on commercially available red midge larvae (RML), a natural prey …

Environmental stressors such as drought, floods, salinity, extreme temperatures, and heavy metal toxicity are major threats to horticultural plants because they disrupt plant physiological mechanisms, leading to reduced yield and quality. Salicylic acid (SA) is a plant hormone that regulates various physiological and biochemical functions in plants. Moreover, it regulates hormonal balance, enhances the absorption of essential nutrients, promotes photosynthesis and the production of antistress compounds, and improves stress resistance. This comprehensive review explains several physiological and biochemical activities that are affected by SA under stressful conditions, such as stomatal regulation, antioxidant defense systems, osmotic adjustment and gene expression regulation. …

Context: Women with patellofemoral pain (PFP) commonly have hip muscle weakness in comparison with women without PFP. One underlying mechanism for this muscle weakness is inhibition. Although the presence of muscle weakness is well documented in women with PFP, few authors have investigated gluteus medius inhibition in this population. Women are twice as likely to suffer from PFP when compared with men; therefore, we focused on the female population.
Objective: To compare voluntary activation of the gluteus medius between women with and without PFP.
Design: Case-control study.
Setting: Laboratory.
Patients or Other Participants: Twenty-eight female …

The Effects Of Montelukast Sodium On Some Biological And Biochemical Aspects, Dna Damage In Drosophila Melanogaster Adults, Ci̇hat Çeli̇k
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Montelukast sodium (MS) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist and used clinically as an antiasthma agent. MS has been hypothesized to have adverse effects in insects. To test this hypothesis, MS was added to the artificial diet of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae) at different concentrations (1200, 1600, 2000, and 2400 mg/L) under laboratory conditions. The effects of MS on the survival rate and development time of D. melanogaster, as well as its effects on malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYP450) enzyme activity in adults were investigated. The genotoxic effect of MS in whole adults was …
