Pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH), a severe dwarfing condition associated with early-onset joint degeneration and lifelong joint pain, is caused by mutations in cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP). The mechanisms underlying the mutant-COMP pathology have been defined using the MT-COMP mouse model of PSACH that has the common D469del mutation. Mutant-COMP protein does not fold properly, and it is retained in the rough endoplasmic reticulum (rER) of chondrocytes rather than being exported to the extracellular matrix (ECM), driving ER stress that stimulates oxidative stress and inflammation, driving a self-perpetuating cycle. CHOP (ER stress signaling protein) and TNFα inflammation drive high levels of mTORC1 …

Direct And Indirect Effects Of Recreational Marijuana On Physical, Mental, Gestational, And Developmental Health: A Point Of Care Handout, John C. Lowman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Review of current research on cannabis use indicates a knowledge gap among caregivers and the need for a tool making it easier to share accurate information with patients. A single-page point-of-care handout, similar to that used to advise the public about cigarette smoking, can help fill that gap. Metadata review of 76 articles was used to build a survey completed by 18 emergency room personnel (physicians, nurses, techs, hands-on administrators) before and after a brief presentation of the handout. Data analysis indicates the presentation increased awareness of marijuana use and health effects an average of 35.7%; level of comfort discussing …

Physical Activity And Mental Health Of Youth During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Amber Watson, Alicia Fedewa, Clair Tischner
Physical Activity And Mental Health Of Youth During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Amber Watson, Alicia Fedewa, Clair Tischner
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
The COVID-19 Pandemic has globally impacted children’s physical activity and mental health outcomes since the transition to remote learning (Štveráková, et al., 2021). Children and adults may encounter negative mental health related consequences, higher stress, and a significant lack of physical activity while in physical and social isolation (Clemente-Suárez, 2022). In particular, school-aged children have experienced a significant reduction in physical activity since transitioning to remote learning and do not have sufficient opportunities to make up for this loss while engaged in remote learning (Štveráková, et al., 2021). Increased physical activity has been consistently correlated with positive mental health outcomes …

In Silico Prediction Of Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter-2 (Sglt2) Inhibition Activity By Allium Fistulosum Compound Based On Skelspheres Molecular Descriptor, Rudy Heryanto, Aryo Tedjo, Dimas Noor
Indonesian Journal of Medical Chemistry and Bioinformatics
The Sodium-Glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor represents a novel agent for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Drugs of this class function by inhibiting glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, thereby controlling blood glucose levels. It is known that SGLT2 inhibitors activate the AMPK signaling pathway by increasing the expression and activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). In vivo tests have demonstrated that ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Welsh onion leaves (Allium fistulosum L) can reduce body weight, liver weight, adipocyte size, and enhance AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) expression. In this study, the inhibitory activity (IC50) of compounds within Allium fistulosum against …

Objective: Numerous studies indicate that the social determinants of health (SDOH), conditions in which people work, play, and learn, account for 30%-55% of health outcomes. Many healthcare and social service organizations seek ways to collect, integrate, and address the SDOH. Informatics solutions such as standardized nursing terminologies may facilitate such goals. In this study, we compared one standardized nursing terminology, the Omaha System, in its consumer-facing form, Simplified Omaha System Terms (SOST), to social needs screening tools identified by the Social Interventions Research and Evaluation Network (SIREN).

Turkish Journal of Biology
Background/aim: Obesity is the fifth largest risk factor of death in the world. The ceramide produced by obesity is closely related to insulin resistance (IR) caused by obesity. At present, the commercially available weight loss products have large side effects and limited therapeutic effects. Therefore, it is particularly important to find effective natural nontoxic products to treat obesity and explore its possible pathways and mechanisms. Materials and methods: In this paper, a high-fat diet (HFD) mice model was established by intragastric administration of high-fat emulsion to investigate the intervention effect of Gooseberry anthocyanins (GA) on IR in HFD mice. We …
