Assessment Of Platelet Activation In Dogs With Naturally Occurring Acute Pancreatitis, Guhyun Kwon, Seulgi Bae
Assessment Of Platelet Activation In Dogs With Naturally Occurring Acute Pancreatitis, Guhyun Kwon, Seulgi Bae
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Recent studies have demonstrated that platelets are crucial in inflammation and immune responses. Alteration in platelet activity impact morbidity and survival due to the formation of intravascular clots or bleeding resulting from impaired platelet function. Aiming to evaluate changes in platelet activity in dogs with naturally occurring acute pancreatitis (AP), we identified differences in quantitative and morphological platelet indices, as well as the ratio of platelets expressing P-selectin on their surface (activated platelet ratio; APR) between dogs with naturally occurring AP and healthy dogs. The study included 9 client-owned dogs with AP (the AP group) and 28 client-owned healthy dogs …
Paint The Line Green: Evaluating Consumer Protection And The Reasonable Person Standard In Environmental Greenwashing Claims, Carmen L. Florez
Paint The Line Green: Evaluating Consumer Protection And The Reasonable Person Standard In Environmental Greenwashing Claims, Carmen L. Florez
Fordham Environmental Law Review
As more consumers become informed about climate change and their own environmental impact, more businesses begin to market their products as “green,” “eco-friendly,” or “sustainable.” However, not all products marketed as environmentally friendly1 actually are; greenwashing, the deceptive marketing practices that misrepresent or exaggerate a product’s or service’s environmental benefits, is on the rise. Imagine a consumer chooses to buy a new outfit from their favorite brand’s “sustainable” line. They forego other options because they believe their choice will support the brand’s apparent efforts to conserve water and reduce their carbon footprint. Then, the consumer later finds out that the …

15 Cigarettes per day. Loneliness and social isolation can increase the risk of premature death just as much as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. Research shows loneliness and social isolation can be so serious that for some the only way out is to resort to addictive behaviors. This is becoming a widespread public health concern. Social science research links the risk of social isolation and loneliness to two of our society’s most vulnerable age groups: the elderly and children. Orphans are among the ones who miss out on the opportunity to form these connections. Similarly, retired adults, especially those who …

Nitrogen Limitation Adaptation (Nla) Modulates Phosphorus And Iron Homeostasis During Boron Toxicity In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Doğa S. Kayihan, Ümi̇t Bariş Kutman, Emre Aksoy, Ceyhun Kayihan
Turkish Journal of Botany
Boron (B) toxicity is a major abiotic stress factor that impairs plant growth and disrupts nutrient homeostasis. The Nitrogen Limitation Adaptation (NLA) gene has been implicated in nutrient regulation; however, its role under B toxicity remains unclear. In this study, the physiological, biochemical, and nutrient responses of wild-type (Col-0) and nla mutant Arabidopsis thaliana were investigated under mild (1 mM H3 BO3 ; 1B) and severe (2 mM H3 BO3 ; 2B) B toxicity conditions. Excess B reduced fresh weight and photosynthetic pigment levels in both genotypes; however, nla mutants exhibited lower malondialdehyde accumulation under 1B, indicating a delayed oxidative …
The Effect Of Set Volume Autoregulation On Hypertrophy And Exploratory Relationships With Subjective Feedback Metrics, Jacob F. Remmert
The Effect Of Set Volume Autoregulation On Hypertrophy And Exploratory Relationships With Subjective Feedback Metrics, Jacob F. Remmert
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Purpose: This study examined whether autoregulation (AR) of set volume led to different hypertrophy outcomes compared to following a fixed training program. We hypothesized that AR would lead to superior hypertrophy. Further, we examined relationships between various subjective feedback metrics and hypertrophy in an exploratory fashion.
Methods: Thirty-four trained men and women had their upper limbs randomized to either an AR condition (AUTO) or a fixed condition (FIX) for unilateral biceps curl training over 10 weeks. Biceps muscle thickness (MT) and upper arm circumference (AC) were assessed at baseline, four midpoints, and post-intervention. Data were analyzed using a mediation framework …

The Vine City Wellness Campus will transform the abandoned Morris Brown College Student Center—a symbol of the neighborhood's rich HBCU heritage—into a beacon of community health, honoring the past while addressing present health crises. By integrating clinical care, maternal health services, wellness programming, and community gathering spaces within a historic structure supplemented by sensitive new construction, this project will demonstrate how architecture can heal both bodies and communities, addressing generations of health inequity in one of Atlanta's most historically significant yet underserved neighborhoods.
From Camps To Communities: A Spatial System For Refugee Recovery, Integration, And Independence, Neeya Yahaya
From Camps To Communities: A Spatial System For Refugee Recovery, Integration, And Independence, Neeya Yahaya
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
Global displacement has reached unprecedented levels, with over 114 million people forcibly displaced worldwide (UNHCR, 2024). Although refugee camps are intended as temporary emergency responses, the average duration of displacement has extended to approximately 17 years. During this time, displaced populations are typically housed in rural, border-adjacent settlements with limited access to infrastructure, economic systems, and social services. Designed for short-term survival, these environments often fail to support long-term recovery, resulting in prolonged dependency and continued exposure to instability.
This research defines this condition as temporary permanence: refugees remain in camps for years or decades in environments not designed to …
Spaces Of Our Own: Reclaiming Community In Jaipur's Informal Settlements, Daisy Bhambhani
Spaces Of Our Own: Reclaiming Community In Jaipur's Informal Settlements, Daisy Bhambhani
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
India’s rapid urbanization has resulted in fragmented urban fabrics, where women and children remain in vulnerable positions. They face systemic barriers in education, health, and social belonging due to under resourced environments. Despite the nation’s commitments to gender equality and the right to education, slum environments continue to lack adequate infrastructure that supports learning and collective well being. Architecture has the potential to combat these challenges by creating spaces that promote social inclusivity.
While architects and planners have recognized the increasing need for inclusive spaces, most projects do not explore how a built form itself can create empowerment within marginalized …

Improved Nutritional Value Of Spinach (Spinacia Oleracea L.) Through Moderate Salinity-Induced Regulation Of Vitamin C And Folate Pathways, Laleh Ahmadi, Hanieh Mohajjel Shoja, Elham Mohajel Kazemi, Maryam Kolahi
Turkish Journal of Botany
Soil salinity is a major abiotic stress affecting over 20% of cultivated and 33% of irrigated lands worldwide, significantly limiting crop productivity and nutrient biosynthesis. Vitamin C and folate are crucial antioxidants in plant stress tolerance and human nutrition; however, their regulation under salt stress remains unclear, particularly in leafy vegetables. This study evaluated the effects of different salinity levels (0, 50, 150, 250, and 350 mM NaCl) on physiological traits, antioxidant activity, vitamin C and folate accumulation, and the expression of related biosynthetic genes in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.). High salinity (250–350 mM) reduced growth, leaf area, and pigment …

Leveraging Mobile Health To Prevent Coronary Artery Disease Through Physical Activity Promotion Among Underserved Youth, Alina Yang, Jessh M. Mavoungou, Matthew C. Miller, Zarmina Amin, Zan Gao
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Coronary artery disease (CAD) develops earlier than often recognized, with underserved youth facing disproportionate cardiometabolic risk. Low participation in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA) is a key driver. This viewpoint explores how mobile health (mHealth) technologies can serve as tools to increase PA engagement among underserved youth, guided by a combined Self-Determination Theory and RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance) framework. It highlights current barriers to mHealth adoption, limited cultural relevance, engagement challenges, and accessibility gaps, and presents key considerations for designing culturally informed, age-tailored, and youth-centered mHealth interventions. Overall, the paper calls for a more inclusive and targeted approach …
