Determinants Of Subjective Well-Being Of Migrants: A Systematic Review, Dombagaha Pathiranage Marian Shavini Medonka Peiris
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
The study aims to comprehensively analyze existing literature to derive insights into the determinants of Subjective Well-being (SWB) among migrants and identify underexplored areas within the research landscape, proposing directions for future studies. Utilizing the PRISMA framework, 22 relevant peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2024 were selected, excluding books, conference proceedings, and dissertations. The analysis considered factors such as publication year, geographical scope, methodology, and sector. The findings of this investigation reveal that research on migrants’ SWB is predominantly quantitative, with a significant lack of nuanced perspectives. Most studies focus on developed countries, resulting in an underrepresentation of developing …

Agricultural products provide significant growth in export earnings for many countries and provide food globally. Fruits and vegetables are perishable foods due to their high moisture content. Therefore, most agricultural products require post-harvest processing such as drying to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables and maintain nutrient quality. Solar drying is widely used for this purpose. Ambient temperature, humidity and solar radiation affect the drying time and quality of agricultural products, especially apricots, in solar dryers. The experiments were carried out in the same place (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and in the same time interval. When the mass of apricots …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Hyperlipidemia is a chronic, progressive disorder routinely encountered in primary care practice. In the United States, coronary artery disease and cerebrovascular disease are the leading causes of death. Hyperlipidemia is a modifiable risk factor for the development of coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and peripheral artery disease. However, many individuals fail to recognize the severity of the health consequences associated with hyperlipidemia. Most often, hyperlipidemia is the direct result of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Comprehensive care falls short in primary care settings, often due to non-compliance with necessary lifestyle behavior changes. Primary care patients' lack of knowledge and awareness signals a …

What Family Mealtime Brings To The Table, Alicia Kirby Leon
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Family mealtimes together appear to play an important role in adolescent mental health. Family mealtime frequency is associated with positive outcomes such as greater well-being, self-esteem, happiness, and better mental health in adolescents. However, the aftermath of the COVID-19 lockdown left behind even higher levels of depression and anxiety and other mental health concerns in adolescents. Moreover, children from lower SES tend to have higher anxiety levels, depressive affect, and stress. In this study, I proposed to help bridge that gap in the research by examining adolescents from low SES families and help determine how much family mealtimes may benefit …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Research regarding the experience and outcomes for adopted children has largely ended upon the individual turning 18 years old and has failed to provide adequate information about how adoption impacts an individual throughout the lifespan. Because of a lack of information gathering from the Department of Justice, there is little information about the incarceration rates of adopted individuals and the reasons for those incarcerations. This qualitative research study seeks to gain a better understanding of those individuals who were adopted and committed murder at some point after they were adopted. Court records, transcripts, motions, and evidence related to the murders …

Understanding Consumer Belief Of Locavorism On Food Consumption At Farmers’ Markets: Implications For Extension Professionals, Youngdeok Lee, Christopher Sneed, Michelle L. Childs
Journal of Extension
Using an intercept method at two local farmers’ markets (n= 192), this study found the notion that local foods taste better and are more nutritious (i.e., lionization) and the notion that buying locally supports and contributes to the local economy and community (i.e., communization), positively influences consumers’ attitude towards shopping at their local farmers’ market. This positive attitude subsequently influences consumer purchase behavior. Extension professionals can utilize these data-driven results to aid in effective farmers’ market promotion by communicating micro-benefits (e.g., nutrition, taste) and macro-benefits (e.g., economic impact) to potential and current farmers’ market consumers.

Addressing Economic Drivers Of Health In The Clinic: The Role And Potential Of Medical-Financial Partnerships, Geoffrey Gusoff, Adam Schickedanz
Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Poverty and financial insecurity are major drivers of poor health outcomes, but health systems have traditionally lacked the tools to address these economic drivers of health. In recent years, an innovative clinical care model is starting to change that: Medical-Financial Partnerships (MFPs). Medical-Financial Partnerships are collaborations between health care systems and financial services providers. They connect patients to a variety of financial services including financial coaching, free tax preparation, and public benefits navigation. These services have been shown to significantly improve health and financial well-being. In addition, MFPs provide effective and welcome access points for under-utilized social service and anti-poverty …
How Snap Reduces Health Disparities In The United States, Craig Gundersen
How Snap Reduces Health Disparities In The United States, Craig Gundersen
Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Food insecurity is the leading indicator of well-being for vulnerable children in the United States due to the magnitude of the problem (9.3 million in 2021) and the associated numerous negative health and other consequences. Given the magnitude of food insecurity and its health consequences, food insecurity is a leading contributor to health disparities in the U.S. today. It follows, then, that if we want to reduce health disparities in the U.S. a necessary condition is to reduce food insecurity. The primary tool used to reduce food insecurity is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the Food …
Shareholder Proposals And Social Policy, Creighton R. Meland Jr.
Shareholder Proposals And Social Policy, Creighton R. Meland Jr.
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
Social policy’s role in shareholder proposals is the focal point of this Article. The SEC sets standards for the social policy issues allowed to be submitted to a shareholder vote but will not define social policy or describe the agency’s methods. The SEC determines whether a proposal appears on a range of environmental and social matters, such as climate change, human rights, and corporate political activities. Generally, shareholder proposals related to a company’s ordinary business operations are matters reserved for the board of directors. However, when these same matters trigger SEC-determined social policy questions, they must often be put to …

Lipopolysaccharide Immune Challenge Stress Biomarkers In Livestock: A Review, Mimosa Medeiros
Lipopolysaccharide Immune Challenge Stress Biomarkers In Livestock: A Review, Mimosa Medeiros
Honors Scholar Theses
Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are a critical component of the cell wall in gram-negative bacteria and play a notable role in the host immune system's response to infection. The LPS challenge, involving the administration of exogenous bacterial LPS to replicate host immune response, provides insight into host responses to inflammatory diseases. Monitoring this response through various stress biomarkers such as serum cytokines, chemokines, white blood cell populations, rectal temperature, and cortisol concentrations enables the understanding of systemic metabolic changes and stress phenotyping. LPS research has the potential to make a significant contribution to the development of stress-resilient livestock. This is particularly important …

In recent decades, obesity has become a worldwide epidemic. As a result, the importance of adipose tissue (AT) as a metabolically active storage depot for lipids and a key mediator of body-wide metabolism and energy balance has been increasingly recognized. Emerging from the studies of AT in metabolic disease is a recognition of the importance of the adipocyte progenitor cell (APC) population of AT being the gatekeeper of adipocyte function. APCs have the capability to self-renew and undergo adipogenesis to propagate new adipocytes capable of lipid storage, which is important for maintaining a healthy fat pad, devoid of dysfunctional lipid …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Diet has been identified as a major driver of reef fish lineage diversification, producing one of the most speciose vertebrate assemblages today. Yet, there is minimal understanding of how, when and why diet itself has evolved. To address this, we used a comprehensive gut content dataset, alongside a recently developed phylogenetic comparative method to assess multivariate prey use across a diverse animal assemblage, coral reef fishes. Specifically, we investigated the diversification, transitions and phylogenetic conservatism of fish diets through evolutionary time. We found two major pulses of diet diversification: one at the end-Cretaceous and one during the Eocene, suggesting that …
