Harvesting And Processing Techniques Of Tropical Grass And Legume Seeds For Smallfarmers, Lumyai Kowithayakorn, Chaisang Phaikaew Nov 2024

Harvesting And Processing Techniques Of Tropical Grass And Legume Seeds For Smallfarmers, Lumyai Kowithayakorn, Chaisang Phaikaew

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

For smallfarmers of forage legumes and grasses in Thailand, manual harvesting and cleaning of leguminous seeds have been widely practised because of cheap and available labour. Tropical grasses produce more seeds than can be harvested; hence it is necessary to find means to improve harvesting and processing techniques in order to obtain high standards of both quality and quantity of seed. The main obstacles could be due to prolonged flowering nnd grain filling periods of individual seedheads resulting in the uneven ripening of seeds at harvest. Premature seeds cause low yields and low quality nt harvests in many species. Flowering …

Winter Cold Temperate Rangelands: Improvement Strategies For Intensive Rangeland Ecosystems, B E. Allan, D Scott

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Transfer of developed grassland technologies to rangelands is discussed in terms of environmental gradients and the options and constraints they impose. Winier feed limitation can be overcome through conserved feeds and various in situ systems involving special purpose pastures and feed banks. General animal nutrition can be improved through intensive development, low input systems, better control of range utilisation and, where appropriate, correction of mineral deficiencies. The emphasis in seeking quick and easy solutions to rangeland management problems is questioned, A more informed, environmentally sound and sustainable approach to rangeland fanning atlitudes and management is proposed. A stepwise process to …

HCA-NSU MD Research Day

Introduction: The obesity epidemic has pushed fatty liver disease to the forefront of the 21st century. Disease identification can be done invasively with a liver biopsy or noninvasively through elastography and measurements of biomarkers. Presently, there are no FDA-approved drugs on the market to treat the disease. Alternative medicinal treatments have been investigated, which include altering the intestinal microbiota and consuming anti-inflammatory, herbal-based, vitamin-based, and plant-based medications. Methods: In this study, multiple databases were used to identify articles pertaining to fatty liver disease (FLD). All articles gathered from the databases were peer-reviewed and less than 10 years old to ensure …

After having learned about how poverty can affect children’s educational outcomes in one of her classes, Iacobacci wanted to learn more about how the issue affected the area where she lived and went to school. What she found out was incredibly shocking, and only furthered the idea that students are struggling with opportunity gaps, not achievement ones. Unfortunately, due to discriminatory loan practices from long ago, children from the 21st century are suffering physically, emotionally, and academically.

Analysis Of The Integration Of Race And Cultural Concordant Doulas Into The Birth Experience Of African American Women, Cherissa Garcia

Best Integrated Writing

Garcia's study looks at how integrating race and cultural-concordant doulas into the birth experience of African American women would impact outcomes. She found similar studies that provided strong evidence to support doula integration. However, most did not select study populations that appropriately reflected the African American women at increased risk of poor outcomes. As a result, Garcia designed a study that looked at race and cultural concordance between doulas and patients from a wide range of SES backgrounds and varying degrees of pregnancy risk.

Development And Evaluation Of A Nurse Leader-Led Acuity-Based Nursing Assignment Program And Its Outcome On Peripheral Intravenous Infiltrations And Extravasations In Pediatric Patients, Cassandra D. Dike

Dissertations

In this evidence-based project, the team developed a model of patient assignments for nurses in a pediatric acute care setting based on workload and acuity as opposed to hours per patient day (HPPD). The team used a plan-do-study-act, or PDSA, cycle of quality improvement methodology to demonstrate that assignments based on acuity as opposed to ratios would improve patient outcomes. The outcome measure was peripheral intravenous infiltrations and extravasations (PIVIEs). In the 6-week time frame only two PIVIEs were identified, and they occurred on shifts in which the ideal acuity score was not met for the nursing assignments due to …

A Focused Ethnography Of Healthcare Transition Among Persistent Asthmatic/Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Copd) Adult Pennsylvania Medicaid Beneficiaries, Agnes Marie M. Cummings Nov 2024

A Focused Ethnography Of Healthcare Transition Among Persistent Asthmatic/Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Copd) Adult Pennsylvania Medicaid Beneficiaries, Agnes Marie M. Cummings

Dissertations

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) (2010) provided for the largest reform of Medicaid since its 1965 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid implementation, providing funding for both low-income and disabled citizens. The additional amount of Medicaid beneficiaries increased the complexity and effectiveness of an already struggling, massive and bureaucratic government program. From a beneficiary perspective (emic perspective), Medicaid as a federal agency, is far from "user-friendly." This problematic complexity remains despite ACA-induced Medicaid reform. Thus despite new eligibility for Medicaid services, a client may still face unresolved health concerns due to system-based or client-based obstacles to effective Medicaid utilization. Failure to …

A Qualitative Exploration Of Associate Degree Nurse Educators' Teaching Experiences Regarding Health Literacy, Connie Marshall Nov 2024

A Qualitative Exploration Of Associate Degree Nurse Educators' Teaching Experiences Regarding Health Literacy, Connie Marshall

Dissertations

Worldwide health literacy levels are low. Nurses should be able to lead the improvement of the health literacy of the populations they serve. During a comprehensive review of the literature, it became apparent that previous research regarding the provision of health literacy education within Associate Degree Nursing programs was not available. The Associate Degree is the initial degree that allows the graduate to take the NCLEX-RN board exam, so it was interesting to determine how learners are prepared to discern the health literacy levels of the patient population. The research question, "How do nurse educators describe their experiences with health …

Impact Of Multidisciplinary Rounds On Adult Inpatient Length Of Stay A Quality Improvement Initiative, Aurora Smith Msn, Rn, Kristie Geil Dnp, Rn, Cenp, Kathryn Johnson Msn, Rn, Cen

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference

Background and/or Rationale: Multiple factors influence patient’s length of a stay (LOS). Studies examining patient demographics, hospital characteristics, and diagnoses indicate that older age, certain diagnoses, and admission to critical care units are associated with longer LOS.

Local Problem: At a non-profit hospital in the Midwest, nurses identified challenges in achieving reductions in the budgeted LOS for adults admitted to inpatient units.

Method: To reduce budgeted LOS, multidisciplinary rounds (MDRs) were optimized through a methodical approach involving direct observation, process mapping, and root cause analysis. A Length of Stay Committee was established, standardizing MDR practices and integrating these into workflows. …

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference

Background

Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) are a key nurse-sensitive indicator and a major component of the PSI-90 National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) metrics. Preventing PIs are critical for enhancing patient care and reducing financial burdens, costing between $500 to $40,000 per patient.

Local Problem

Atrium Health (AH) Mercy experienced 56 HAPIs in 2022 and 67 in 2023, prompting the need for structured reduction initiatives. In 2023, the cost of treating Stages 3, 4, and Unstageable PIs averaged $14,500 each, totaling $536,500. Despite existing AH policies emphasizing prevention strategies and documentation protocols, an assessment revealed documentation gaps and inconsistent …
