Podium Presentation: Promoting Holistic Health: Impact Of Vocati On The Spiritual And Moral Development In Youth, Joann Long, Jeremy Smith

2022 Providence Nurse Research Conference

Background: Approximately one out of every six individuals are adolescents between the ages of 10 to 19. Promoting health and reducing risks for this age group has life-long health and societal consequences. Evidence suggests positive and negative risk-taking behaviors cluster in this population. Models for the promotion of positive youth development have shifted in focus from avoidance of risk-taking behaviors to emphasis on psychosocial competence and holistic well-being. Evidence suggests spiritual wellbeing, regardless of conceptual definition, is more often than not associated with positive health outcomes and development in youth. However, few studies have included spiritual and moral constructs in …

Motivation Across Platforms, Mariia Shishmareva Jun 2022

Motivation Across Platforms, Mariia Shishmareva

Theses and Dissertations

Motivation in language learning has been studied for quite a long time. However, the main focus has been on motivation in face-to-face learning environments. Motivation in online learning can be different due to many factors. This study compared how a language instructor used motivational strategies in face to-face vs. Zoom classes; and how students reacted to these motivational strategies. For these purposes the Motivational Orientation of Language Teaching (MOLT) was used for observations. Results showed that while the teacher used many of the same motivational strategies in both sections, some categories like Social Chat, Referential Questions and Volunteering had significantly …

Leadership Strategy For Sustaining Mission-Focused Vision In Years Seven To Ten Of Crosswalk Fellowship, Boyan Levterov

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

In January 2007, my wife and I led a core team of passionate Christian believers to start Crosswalk Fellowship as a parachute church plant. The plant was a part of the local Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist church planting initiative. The project had a successful start and reached the high standards to qualify for church status in the Texas Conference in less than one and a half years. Crosswalk continued to experience steady growth during the first five years of existence; However, in year five, people escaping crises happening simultaneously in the other two existing English Seventh-day Adventist churches …

Micro-Kingdom: A Theological And Missiological Apologetic For The Microchurch Model As An Effective And Faithful New Testament Expression Of The Kingdom Of God, Donald Clayton Dodge Aug 2021

Micro-Kingdom: A Theological And Missiological Apologetic For The Microchurch Model As An Effective And Faithful New Testament Expression Of The Kingdom Of God, Donald Clayton Dodge

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Using a bibliographic methodology, this thesis is a theological and missiological defense for the microchurch model as a solution to the limitations of the prevalent Western attractional model to effectively live out Jesus command to be a community of disciples making disciples. The declining western model is proving insufficient in a post-Christian, post-Christendom world to fulfill the intended role of the church. And as more churches are continually planted, if the erroneous presuppositions responsible for the decline of the church’s efficacy are not amended, there will be no lasting change regardless of how much effort and money is invested. New …

Church Leadership: The Church's Responsibility To The Great Commission And A Qualitative Approach To Its Command To Make Disciples, William Maxwell

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The gospel message is one that is life changing and one that must go forward in our world. As the church, every Christian is responsible for making every effort to fulfill the incredible command that Jesus gave first to his small group of disciples and essentially to every follower. Disciples of Jesus are to go out and make new disciples of Christ, teaching them the ways of Jesus and actively helping them, through the working of the Holy Spirit, to mold them into Christians that will in turn go out and be disciples that make new disciples. Consequently, this is …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Students living in an academic environment need a consistent spiritual presence to enhance the overall academic experience. Spiritual advice should be available in times of crisis and a chaplain could be the spiritual leader to fill that void. . Chaplain leadership should parallel secular academy professionals and religious professionals to fortify spiritual and community awareness on the campus of Winston Salem State University. On a broader scale, the absence of spiritual leadership is a vital component of this problem. Chaplain leaders must answer the call outside the boundaries of religious comfort zones and address the absence of spiritual leadership crippling …

The Credentialing Crisis: The Impact Of Dual Credit Faculty Credentials And Years Of Experience On Participants Postsecondary Success, Trudy Weddle

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

By 2025, the majority of jobs in the United States will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school” (Lumina Foundation, n.d., p. 9). Earning college credit in high school, at times earning a postsecondary degree or credential simultaneously while working toward a high school diploma, presents an opportunity for states to increase postsecondary degree and/or credential attainment needed to meet labor market demands. A potential limitation to expanding the opportunity to earn college credit in high school came in 2015 when the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) adopted a policy revision regarding faculty qualifications. This quantitative study examined outcomes from …
